Decline party invite because she gave me a thumbs up?

I know this is petty, but I find the whole birthday party scene an unwanted drain on my family time, my energy levels and my finances.

I’d much rather do play dates.

When you’ve got as many kids as I have it’s lucky if we don’t have a birthday each day of the weekend.

So my eldest daughter was invited to a party where everyone is invited.

I don’t know this mum, hardly see her to talk to her, but the kids get on so I was going to go… like you do. She came to my daughters party, exchange the gift back, etc

BUT the mum is obviously selectively responding to several mums RSVPs with either a 👍🏻or a ❤️

I got a thumbs up 👍🏻

Now I’m wondering why I should put myself out when she has outed me as being less equal than half the other mums.

AIBU to decline purely because of the 👍🏻?

I find the heart emoji in a workplace setting just fucking weird.
we are friendly because we work at the same location but we aren’t friends.
I have other people for that.

MissingMoominMamma · 12/04/2023 22:52

Be thankful you didn’t get a 😬.

Or a 🖕.

VestaTilley · 12/04/2023 22:54

What? This is mad.

Don't let your DC miss out on a party because of a minor slight that may or may not be intended. How petty and unfair on your DD. Go to the party.

PrinnyPree · 12/04/2023 22:55

Oh God fuck I wonder if I have 50% of mums on my nursery whatsapp twat group, secretely hating me because I chose a smiley instead of a heart emoji or some shit.... oh God do I have to go back and anaylise emojis, is thumbs up the new "regards" and passive aggressive "fuck yous" have been going over my elder millenial head this entire time. 😅

PrinnyPree · 12/04/2023 22:56

Your poor daughter.

Mum am I going to Alice's party

Yes you are, I've RSVPd

Two days later, your not going to Alice's party anymore, her mum used the wrong emoji.

Well, quite. OP sounds utterly utterly batshit. So a thumbs up isn't good enough for your ego OP? What in the name of jesus fucking fruitloop did I just read Grin

Hopes to read on from this point and find out OP was taking the piss and doesn't mean this seriously. Otherwise ....

Are you coming back OP?
♥️ for yes
👍 for no

👏👏👏

TenoringBehind · 12/04/2023 23:45

I had to read this several times to be sure I wasn’t mistaken .

Absolutely bonkers!

thebaneofmylifeisacat · 13/04/2023 00:04

Is this why you not coming to the coronation love?

angielou791417 · 13/04/2023 17:58

All I see in your post is things YOU don't like, or want to do!
To not let her go to the party would be disgusting, your using the emoji as an excuse because you can't be arsed taking her
You had lots of children so suck up the things you don't want to do!

Shona52 · 13/04/2023 18:14

Maybe the 2 different emojis are because she knows some of the mums very well and like you not so well. It would be a bit weird if she sent you a ❤️ symbol given the fact you hardly know each other. Besides this the fact you have got so worked over this is ridiculous and the thought of not going because of it is beyond ridiculous. The invite is for you daughter to attend the other girls bday nothing else

ewright86 · 13/04/2023 18:39

omg grow up.

this is what is wrong with the world “my kid is going to your kids party because I didn’t get the best emoji”.

I wouldn't say this if you were not being so selfish, but you can't be 'less equal'. You're either equal or you're not.

LaDamaDeElche · 13/04/2023 19:02

Qué? 🤣

OhMerseyMe · 13/04/2023 19:05

You just stated that you don’t know the mom and hardly see her to talk to her. Why in the world would you expect a ❤️ in return? You are wearing your feelings on your sleeve and being ridiculous.

MrsLighthouse · 13/04/2023 19:06

Her friends would have got the hearts ….weird if you did. I have never been able to stand the whole kids party scene 🙄 but l wouldn’t use such a tenuous excuse not to go 🤣 do what all parents have to do and grit your teeth and go…x

Mrsgreen100 · 13/04/2023 19:07

I would to send a thumbs up, but to friends I knew well would be a heart
simple
would not send ❤️to anyone I didn’t know really well

Beautiful3 · 13/04/2023 19:13

You're acting insane! Don't be silly! Remember it's about the kids, not you.

DumpedByText · 13/04/2023 19:15

FFS you sound incredibly petty, how you've got the time or energy to get your knickers in a twist over this is astounding! 🙄

Michellelovesizzy · 13/04/2023 19:15

How do you no what emoji other people got was it a group chat or somthing ?

Mesoavocado · 13/04/2023 19:19

What a batshit AIBU

😅

OhcantthInkofaname · 13/04/2023 19:27

Me, too.

Hmm1234 · 13/04/2023 19:30

No you are over thinking! Instead of giving everyone lovehearts did she do a pattern of liking ever other. She may just of wanted to not come across as ‘beggy’ on social media
