Sainsburys now doing nectar price

Whateveryouwant1 · 11/04/2023 11:37

I've never really liked tesco club card prices because if you forget your club card you have to change your shopping habits for that shop and now sainsburys have followed suit with nectar prices!
Why can't supermarkets just either be price effective or just do deals like before? Can't stand this it'll be £8.10 without your nectar card or £4 with! Give me strength and reasonable prices ffs!

Go to Aldi instead 🤷🏻‍♀️

If it helps I use the little keyring version of the clubcard so it's always on my keys and I can't forget.

Whatt · 11/04/2023 11:40

When they first bring these price deals out they seem cheaper.

But within a few months they have increased both prices, even the nectar/club card ones.

It reminds me of Sports Direct's never ending 70% sale. With fake rrp prices when they were never that price to begin with.

I suppose the supermarkets get away with it as they do sell it off club card for the over inflated price.

Rockbird · 11/04/2023 11:41

All these cards are now on apps on phones. Whether you agree with the clubcard prices or not, you don't need to carry a physical card anymore. Mine are even on my watch.

ZombieKettle · 11/04/2023 11:41

I hate it too as it means they can only offer me the cheaper price so long as I consent to them having data around my shopping habits.

AnyBenny · 11/04/2023 11:41

Put the reward card on your phone?

PuggyMum · 11/04/2023 11:41

I'm the same.

I hate having to have apps for everything too.

Although I rarely go to Tesco or Sainsbury's anymore but when I do it's so annoying.

Put the reward card on your phone?

Can I ask a daft question? How do you do that?

I genuinely don't know

Like other posters, I get frustrated walking into tescos then immediately having to walk out because I've given my clubcard to my husband.

Easterfunbun · 11/04/2023 11:44

I just use my car key ring bunch so I never forget it.

PooCurtain · 11/04/2023 11:44

The reason is because they want your data. Having a Clubcard/nectar account means they know what you buy and when you buy it. This is invaluable to a company.

There was a historic case in USA where a supermarket knew a customer’s daughter was pregnant before the customer did thanks to the shopping patterns etc.

For Tesco, simplest way is to take a photo of the barcode. Then bring that photo up when you need it.

On my iPhone, I use the Wallet app to store my credit card. I think I simply entered the details then got a OTP number to use. I’m sure I googled how to do it first! I think it safer than carrying my cards around with me as my phone uses facial recognition in order to use it so no one else can use my card.

ruralwanderer · 11/04/2023 11:50

There's an app called stocard that you can save all of your rewards cards onto so that they're always with you. Well worth doing to nab the bargains - though I agree that it's frustrating seeing two prices on the shelf.

pizzaHeart · 11/04/2023 11:52

Agree with you. It’s very annoying. And before anyone’s comments I do have Tesco, Sainsburys, Boots, Superdrug, Costa and a few others cards on my phone and some in my wallet. And yes, I go to Aldi as well.
It’s a matter of principle, it’s easier for consumers just to have cheaper prices and yes, supermarkets do it to receive our data.
Not that it helps them with mine. As my card shows them I’m buying Tesco prawns only when they are on offer and never full price. They can go all excited about it. I treat Sainsburys prawns the same.

thimblewomgee247 · 11/04/2023 11:52

If you have an iPhone then just go to app. See card and press "add to wallet". It's so simple

RedToothBrush · 11/04/2023 11:53

It will quite simply drive me even more to other supermarkets.

I've stopped using Tesco because of how much I dislike their system. I actively distrust it.

AnnPerkins · 11/04/2023 11:54

I use the Sainsburys SmartShop app. I use my phone to scan and pack as I shop and the promotions are automatically applied.

Thesearmsofmine · 11/04/2023 11:55

I actually stopped going to Tesco because of this. It feels really grubby to me that they charge people more for food simply because they don’t want to sign up to their scheme. People have to buy food and many are limited to which supermarket they can access.

Whateveryouwant1 · 11/04/2023 11:57

I shop at aldi and lidl and asda and morrisons, I don't stick with one supermarket.
Why should I have to give up my data for cheaper prices? I'm already in their shop purchasing goods isn't that enough? Co op also on the stupid 'we'll give you cheaper prices if you give us your data' bandwagon but they aren't really cheaper prices.
Jeez please just be straight with people!

I remember someone being refused a discount for fireworks in Tesco because their Clubcard was just a photo on their phone, rather than the app itself. The staff member said it wasnt worth her job to accept the image on it's own. Presumably if buying something at a normal till they'd have got away with it.

Tinylove23 · 11/04/2023 11:58

Get your cards on the app then you never forget it.
I don't see it as the supermarkets charging people without a card more. I see it the other way around as the supermarkets lowering their prices if you have a card with them.
I love it - gets me some great deals on stuff I would buy anyway.

Crystalsandpebbles · 11/04/2023 12:01

I'm packing my own shopping. Getting my credit card out to pay. I really don't want to be scrambling around for my phone too. Sainsbury's and Tesco do at least give you a physical store card. Lidl and Asda don't, which is really annoying, not to mention discrimitory to those who don't have smartphones - mostly the elderly who may be most in need of the discounts.

I have the app on my phone. My husband was going to do the shopping so I opened the club card on my phone to screenshot it and send it to him. The app wouldn't let me screenshot it.

Yes, same here. I don't go to Tesco any more for that reason and now I won't go to Sainsbury's either.

Plus what's with that clubcard advert where everyone has the same face??! I mean what's the message there? Is it 'Shop at Tesco, you clone' or 'we see our customers as helplessly grinning algorithms ' or 'sign your identity over to the man for cheap nasty pizzas'? Oof.

A very interesting read indeed!

How Target Figured Out A Teen Girl Was Pregnant Before Her Father Did

Target has perfected the technique of analyzing consumers' shopping habits to figure out who's pregnant. How can they send customers congratulatory coupons without freaking them out?

You can add it to your Apple wallet.
