Would you get a night / baby nurse?

If you could afford it / it was free.

I think in theory I’d love it but in reality I’d feel guilty. Contemplating this as I head into another long newborn night!

YABU - no
YANBU - I would

probably not in the early days. I found I had to be close to my babies and could hear them crying from the other side of the house with ear plugs in when DH tried to give me a night off. It was like I had some werid biological alarm. So I often think that a nightnurse would to be just mean paying something a huge amount of money for me to lie awake listening out for my baby crying.

Tho if she if she is good and doing her job there would be no crying

Obv some babies have reflux and colic etx and are unhappy sometimes

But no real need for newborns to cry for a long time and esp at night

If their needs are met

They have cuddles /get fed /changed /settled and swaddled
And go to sleep

WhatALightbulbMoment · 13/04/2023 12:21

I wouldn't need a night nurse for the first 4 months - my DC all slept well in the beginning. I would definitely get a night nurse once the 4 month regression hits. None of mine slept through for years after that.

there are loads of posters on here saying that they need their sleep and that if possible a night nurse would have been beneficial etc

it’s not being a bad parent to not find being up all night with your baby “beautiful” or that you would rather be asleep at 4am than cuddling baby!

Dollmeup · 13/04/2023 12:29

Hell yeah. My eldest has always been a terrible sleeper and I spent the first 18 months in an exhausted miserable haze. If I could have afforded a night nanny I absolutely would have done it!

Anyone preferring to be up with their baby at 4am rather than peacefully asleep is probably suffering from a form of psychosis.

What a truly cuntish person decides to have a baby then says they would prioritise their own sleep over their child's needs & instincts

crosstalk · 13/04/2023 12:44

Doesn't it depend on circumstance? My 1st DC was a large baby which I think allowed them to take on board a lot of milk and go to sleep. So I only had to wake up once around 3am - had a radio and premade thermos of tea for me. They then slept till 7.30 or 8am. Also helpful husband. So that time I didn't need help. Next time, however ......

Night nurses can be hugely helpful if you are the end of your tether and can afford them. Me I'd prefer someone who helped clean and cook. Which can be a partner if they're not working hugely long hours.

@Couldntgive2hoots

you do realise that human beings NEED sleep in order to function don’t you?

it’s a need, not a want

the way you speak about it anyone would think it was a self indulgent, optional treat - akin to going and getting ones nails done.

I'm not suggesting parents stay up all night long until their child reaches school age...
But waking up several times a night is to be expected, paying someone else to meet your babies basic needs in the night so that you sleep undisturbed is selfish, indulgent and shows the level of maternal instinct that a fish might have. If you're not willing to meet your child's needs yourself...get a cat instead

I outsource quite a lot. Being rested and happy makes me a better parent. It also enables me to not be a cunt and judge other women for doing things differently to me.

@Couldntgive2hoots

if you can get help, like a night nurse - why the hell wouldn’t you ?! Baby is happy, mums happy all good!

you do realise there are no prizes for being a Martyr don’t you?

you sound like one of those people who think a woman should persist with breastfeeding even if it’s damaging their mental health cos ‘breast is best’ for baby and that having a c- section is the easy way out…

You’re really something aren’t you? Why so angry? Who hurt you? You don’t seem happy. 😆

I'm happy, my kids are happy...and I didn't need to pay anyone else to be their comfort and caregiver.

if you’re so happy, why are you so unpleasant to people on here who chose or would choose to do differently to you? Happy people don’t tend to behave like you.

People post on here asking for opinions. If they want to just be told a specific answer...they should stick to asking their friends who are likely to tell them what they want to hear.
But presumably...since they're asking a forum of complete strangers they want/expect some honest opinions.
Never understood anyone who has a child and then complains about what having a child entails. Newborns don't sleep through....women are built to deal with that, if we weren't...there would be no mankind. If you're not built to deal with it...you shouldn't be reproducing

What a smug, ridiculous and actually profoundly stupid comment to make 🙄

There are certainly some who shouldn't be reproducing...
It's not the ones who decide they need more help and are happy to pay for it.
