This is going to infuriate a lot of people but I think we are a nation of fools.

does anyone else really not care? I’m surprised given what’s happening in France there isn’t more opposition to the coronation.

A number of those country's are quasi fascist rulers.

The tourism angle isn't true people would still visit due to the history of the monarchy, Franch has way more tourists than the UK despite having no monarchy.

We should be past having people who due to a accident of birth are in those roles.

France is a completely different and incomparable country to the UK! It has FAR more tourist destinations and is 2.5 times bigger for a start!

You say the RF don’t have an impact on tourism - yet millions visit royal households ever year, billions watch wedding and funerals. Tickets sales for the likes of Buckingham Palace generate millions. But yeah no one is remotely interested 😂

If you’re a royalist or republican, I don’t especially care - you do you. But this denial that no one gives a stuff about the RF is just absolutely ridiculous.

CornishGem1975 · 10/04/2023 20:37

I'm with you @KnittingNeedles and who cares if they are German anyhow?

Howpo · 10/04/2023 21:23

Because there are no royals in France, the former palaces can be visited... not so in the UK.

Not sure billions watch royal weddings/funerals as the norm at all... Queen Mother ? Phillip? Andrew and Fergie?

Really? Only about 1/2 the UK's pop. watched more than 3mins of the Queens funeral ..... in France it was around 4m.

The heady days of Royalty are long gone and ours should go to, as of March 2023, only 46% approve in one poll.

I challenge you to find data that suggests more people visit France for the palace.

Besides I could visit Buckingham Palace, Windsor House, Palace of Holyrood House and Clarence House.

2 billion people watched Harry & Meghan’s wedding. 1 billion watched William and Cathrine’s 8 years earlier. 4 billion watches the Queen’s funeral.

Not sure where your 46% stay comes from but according to YouGov in September 2022 2/3rds of Brita supported keeping the RF.

Again, pretending no one is interested in the RF is utterly ridiculous - you’ll have to square it with yourself somehow that people ARE interested and it doesn’t seem to be waning.

whitesnowflake · 10/04/2023 21:42

I'm Scottish and have no interest whatsoever in the coronation. No-one else I know cares either. I cannot get over the amount of forelock tugging that goes on on MN, not something that I see at all irl.

CordyLines · 10/04/2023 21:50

A scandal of humungous proportions is now needed for the RF to get much attention these days. Ordinary folk are bored with them, because well.... they are boring really.

I think people watch them only for the frocks, tiaras and kids. What else is there?

Again - why are people insisting no one is interested in the RF when clearly it’s not true?! Facts speak for themselves.

I watch because I like the ceremony, the history, the traditions. But if people do just watch for the dresses and tiaras - so what?

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 10/04/2023 21:53

Also the architecture and seeing so much of beautiful London!

Coxspurplepippin · 10/04/2023 21:57

JuneBridie · 10/04/2023 16:13

I’m Scottish, no one I know gives a flying fuck about the royals in general. Everyone I know is planning on actively avoiding the ceremony coverage, just like they did with the diamond jubilee and the queen’s funeral.

The turnout in along the cortege routes and in Edinburgh would suggest the view of you and those you know wasn't universal.

iwishiwasonhol · 10/04/2023 21:58

I will be working it just like every other bank holiday ,if i was off i would probably would watch it simply because i would love to not be working it

Whatever you say Head Girl! But it is a very expensive undertaking just to watch a few dresses and tiaras.

Then when it's over we won't see or hear from them again for a while.

But you appear to be overly excited and defensive. I hope you are not playing games with us now. Wink

Infracat · 10/04/2023 21:59

Couldn't care less!

Do support don’t support them - no skin off my nose. But it’s just rather embarrassing claiming no one else has an interest in them at all.

gamerchick · 10/04/2023 22:01

I don't particularly care, as I haven't for any other the other royal stuff.

Still a bit miffed I have to work.

mauveiscurious · 10/04/2023 22:01

Love the RF 🇬🇧👑

GettingThereCharleyBear · 10/04/2023 22:01

@TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl you should look up the most visited tourist destinations in the UK. They might debunk your myth. There is no evidence whatsoever that tourism would suffer if we didn’t have the Windsor circus. 🙄

CordyLines · 10/04/2023 22:04

If it was pay per view only for TV coverage, and there was a charge to watch it live in London, would anyone here be willing to pay?

I know those who love this sort of thing would, but I doubt many others would including myself!

LadyWiddiothethird · 10/04/2023 22:04

Time we abolished the monarchy, entitled bunch of parasites.

Travis1 · 10/04/2023 22:04

I’m with you OP. Only time I’m going to care is when they are finally abolished

ssd · 10/04/2023 22:05

When is it?

ssd · 10/04/2023 22:05

6th may , a Saturday

FredandAmy · 10/04/2023 22:05

I’m looking forward to it. I think the royal family are a huge asset to this country, I love the ceremony and sense of history.

Tactica · 10/04/2023 22:06

The idea that in 2023 we’re crowning a man to reign over us because of an accident of birth is at my most charitable cringingly embarrassing and at worst dangerous, a bloody affront to democracy

This. It is absolutely ludicrous.

Any stuff about tourism and 'revenue' is utterly, profoundly irrelevant.

I don’t think I ever claimed the royal households are the most visited places in the UK. Did I.

Either way - it’s difficult to quantify why people visit the UK. But to pretend the RF has no bearing on tourism - when you see the popularity of things like palace visits, Royal appearances, even the daily changing of the guard - is nothing short of foolish and deluded. Millions of people queued miles for almost a whole day to see the Queen lying in state. I mean in my opinion I think that’s the point where people completely lost the run of themselves. But rather debunks the ‘no one cares’ or ‘we must look silly to other people’ theory.

Trendingtopic · 10/04/2023 22:06

Totally loving the folks who pretend not to care but rhen click on a link to read and respond. It’s the very definition of caring 😂
