To not care at all about the King’s coronation?

northernsunshine · 10/04/2023 16:11

This is going to infuriate a lot of people but I think we are a nation of fools.

does anyone else really not care? I’m surprised given what’s happening in France there isn’t more opposition to the coronation.

Well, I don´t ¨care¨about the Coronation, the guy is already king, it is surplus to requirements, but I will watch bits out of curiosity. I know many who will and none follow monarchies.

Objectionhearsayspeculation · 21/04/2023 12:44

I really couldn't care less about it nor anyone else I know, I feel I should probably put it on because I Home Ed and it's something they probably hopefully won't see again as I suspect there won't be a monarchy left much longer.

I despise all the forced pomp that comes with it - if you like the royal family, fine - crack on.

But wall to wall coverage for weeks on end is draining.

Isseywith3witchycats · 21/04/2023 13:00

Not intentional as the queen was still alive when i booked it but we will be getting on a plane and flying off to the canaries the same day and no i am not a royalist

It might have been “draining” once (how?) when there were three or four TV channels but with literally hundreds of TV channels and streaming websites, it’s hardly difficult to get away from it. It’s the first one for 70 years, Wimbledon happens every year and bores me to tears but nobody forces me to watch it.

bellabasset · 21/04/2023 13:46

@RampantIvy There were wage councils for different industries that set wages and regulations which were disbanded by the Tories. The Working Hours Directive came into force and holiday entitlement was mandatory. The national minimum wage was introduced 20 years ago.

mamabear715 · 21/04/2023 13:48

Meh, can't get excited about it.. I think I'm still mourning our wonderful late Queen, tbh.. we'll never see her like again. :-(

RetiredEastLondonITGirl · 21/04/2023 13:57

Bread and circuses

softpetals · 21/04/2023 14:05

I'm English. Couldn't give two hoots. Planning a nice weekend with my family for the bank holiday although knowing my anti royalist employer I won't even benefit from the bank holiday!!

Really liked the queen though but mainly because she was generally one of the only female leaders in a room of men everytime she met up with the other world leaders. Imo no man can match her effect on these men not quite knowing how to act around someone that looks like a granny demanding stuff :-)

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 21/04/2023 14:06

As a Humanist anti-monarchist, it really not my thing at all. God Save the King??? Why is Charles Windsor any more worthy of being "saved" than anyone else? What is he being saved for/from?

Fortunately I can think of several dozen things I would rather do that day. If I ever needed to see it for some reason - I can't think what that would be - there will probably be something on YouTube.

Don’t watch it then! I hate Charles & The Villain so much that I’ve managed to avoid anything to do with them for years. I didn’t even know they were married, that is until this bollocks started. I too shall leave this cuntry.

londonrach · 21/04/2023 14:44

In real life no one cares.

SidekickSylvia · 21/04/2023 14:51

I'm not British but I live in England and I'll watch some of it because I love all of your pomp and ceremony. I hadn't intended to watch HMQ's funeral but I was mesmorised by it all; e.g. the absolute perfection of your British Military, and the lone piper. Nobody does this kind of thing as well as the British; you are world famous for it.

annedawso · 30/04/2023 08:57

I care, the expense to taxpayers infuriates me.
Not just for the Coronation but the upkeep of the Royal Family, sure I read Charles is worth over a Billion.
Countries in Europe have far more BHs than we do so glad to have an extra day off.
Just read on BBC news they want us all to chant our allegiance during the ceremony. The implication no doubt is that we all will have, wonder what the reality will be.

This country infuriates me at moment, we have the highest inflation in Europe, and the news deliberately never mentions this is mostly because of Brexit.
The Govt have lost billions through mismanagement for PPE etc for Covid.
B of E policy of raising interest rates is massively increasing transfetteance of wealth from poor to rich.

Oblomov23 · 30/04/2023 09:45

Indifferent. Liked Queen Bond jump at Olympics. Meh about Charles. Can't accept the cost.

You’ve got no choice. The cost hardly seems excessive for an event that’s happened twice in the last century. It’s not as if we have one every year. It’s a drop in the ocean compared with the amount this government has squandered.

vera99 · 30/04/2023 10:15

Loads of ex-royalists on Andrew Castle LBC who loved the Queen but have no affinity for Charles and one saying that the scales dropped from her eyes at the whole ridiculousness of it all. Pledge my allegiance - hell will freeze over first and even then NO !

I bet you are going to still accept the free bank holiday though!

Well why not? can hardly avoid it when place off work is closed what a ridiculous comment!!!

It's not free the country is paying for this whilst HRH The Spongers continue to live high off the hog.

True - and folk aren't exactly given a choice. If you're self employed I'd imagine it's to your detriment.

Not if your business is in hospitality or retail, an extra bank holiday is bonanza time for those industries

It does get a bit tedious to talk about poor people day in day out. This is a nice change.

EustaceTheMonk · 30/04/2023 10:54

What I care about is the number of people who seem to think I want to know that they don't care about it.

Please remember, I I want to hear your views on any subject (e.g. diet, religion, the EU, the Monarchy), I will ask you.

Your opinions are not as interesting as you think they are.

Christ, that’s like “Let them eat cake”. Did you actually think about that before you posted it?
