This is going to infuriate a lot of people but I think we are a nation of fools.

does anyone else really not care? I’m surprised given what’s happening in France there isn’t more opposition to the coronation.

I don't really care about the act of the coronation but I'm looking forward to the bank holiday and all the pomp and ceremony.

I’m sorry you totally misunderstand the whole notion of constitutional monarchy. I thought schools did better than that.

Indeed - so strange so many people are being obtuse get it wrong

@Blossomtoes

Your beloved you.gov poll showed a majority not interested in the con a nation

I don't believe polls - 1,700 people ?

I DO believe the following facts:

  • thousands had street parties for the jubilee 16,000 parties I think . How many planned for Chuck ? 245
And most of those are in England .Disunited kingdom .

Little interest in the 'volunteerI' day.

Reduced route for golden carriage ( they'll try to sell that as being green or some other laughable reason - all royal appearances have falling numbers now)

Are you gonna provide a source?

Youve moaned about the extravagance and are now moaning they’re cutting back 😂

Blossomtoes · 11/04/2023 12:30

You also missed the meaning of constitutional monarchy.

😂😂 it’s just so embarrassing

And actually there’s 7,000 parties planned for the coronation so far

Irish. Could not give a flying one. Will not affect me in any way shape or form AND I don't get a day off.

I know. These ungrateful people who don't appreciate or respect our nation's proud heritage should just sod off to North Korea or somewhere. I for one will be watching the coronation with head bowed in humble reverence. God save The King; long may He reign over us.

I do not care .. I am disgusted at the money spent on it as the NHS and schools are on a rapid decline and could do with any extra money,

But also I am not wanting this bank holiday .. as a teacher every hour with my GCSE, AS and A2 classes makes a difference between now and their exams. Such bad and frustrating timing before exam season.

I agree with you.

I'm in Scotland and exams were rescheduled as a result of the additional bank holiday.

ILikePizzas · 11/04/2023 15:48

I'm not planning to engage with it. At the same time, I'm also not planning to disrupt anything and spoil other people's day - as some will no doubt do.

Brilliant typo.😂😂

RampantIvy · 11/04/2023 16:40

just like they did with the diamond jubilee and the queen’s funeral.

So, the thousands of people who lined the route when the queen's coffin was driven to Edinburgh were all English people on holiday?

I'm not planning to engage with it. At the same time, I'm also not planning to disrupt anything and spoil other people's day - as some will no doubt do.

Best post on this thread.

I was more referring to how people don’t know the very basics of a constitutional monarch. But hey, knock yourself out with the ridiculous melodrama. It’s very entertaining for the rest of us.

Ridiculous melodrama is what I do best. Wink

Agreed.

I will go out of my way to avoid watching it. But don't really care if others do. Will be working on the Monday as usual. Traffic will be quieter so nice easy journey to and from work

vera99 · 11/04/2023 17:22

They will probably cancel it for lack of interest when Haz and Megs say naahhh.... as they don't want to spoil Kate's big day and add to her worldly woes...

Binjob118 · 11/04/2023 17:34

I don't mind really, hopefully the last coronation anyway before this country awakens from the brainwashing.

Mostar · 11/04/2023 18:22

Apparently, coronation chicken was invented in 1953 to commemorate the crowning of Queen Elizabeth II. Are they doing another new sandwich filling this time?

If so I hope it's suitable for vegans.

Yeah it's called a King's Ransom - two stale slices of organic wholemeal bread going mouldy owing to the lack of preservatives containing a thin coating of Duchy Originals Paddington Marmalade Spread all in a recycled wrapper made out from unsold Coronation programmes. £9.99 from Waitrose 😁

happinessischocolate · 11/04/2023 21:22

At work we get 33 days holiday including bank holidays. So these extra royal bank holiday are taken out of standard year entitlement. Most people are pretty pissed if at having to take another day of holiday in May.

I'm retired so the point is moot personally but if I was forced to take it I would be bloody livid and ranting. That is actually terrible and not widely known.

Coxspurplepippin · 11/04/2023 21:43

Every time I see the phrase 'con a nation' written on these threads I get a very strong Trump vibe - it joins the ranks of bigly, china virus, fake news, lock her up, maga. Republicans have the 'best words'..... Grin

You missed out cap doffing and various combos of serfs/peasants and judicious use of medieval/feudal. All good words no need to get precious about their uses or abuses !
