To not care at all about the King’s coronation?

This is going to infuriate a lot of people but I think we are a nation of fools.

does anyone else really not care? I’m surprised given what’s happening in France there isn’t more opposition to the coronation.

Ahh poor old Charles, he doesn't stand a chance of measuring up to the Queen. He looks defeated before he's even got started. I think Anne would do a better job.

JacobsCrackersCheeseFogg · 11/04/2023 00:13

Very "meh" about it. More bothered by my bus not running on that day because of road closures (London). I'm working on Coronation day and after that packing for a camping holiday, so, not that bothered.

OnaBegonia · 11/04/2023 00:17

I bet you are going to still accept the free bank holiday though!
Unfortunately lots of workplaces are deducting it from your holiday allowance, my DD being one of them, she's fuming.

VenAqui · 11/04/2023 00:24

Load of freeloading leaches, I wish they’d all get lost.

Howpo · 11/04/2023 07:52

I challenge you to find data that suggests more people visit France for the palace

Its a very weak challenge, many times more people visit Versailles than Buck house.

2 billion people watched Harry & Meghan’s wedding. 1 billion watched William and Cathrine’s 8 years earlier. 4 billion watches the Queen’s funeral

Stats are based on a 3min watch..... 4billion is approx half the worlds population... there are only 1.7 households across the glob with a TV & where do these stats come from?

Not sure where your 46% stay comes from but according to YouGov in September 2022 2/3rds of Brita supported keeping the RF

YouGov March 2023.

Again, pretending no one is interested in the RF is utterly ridiculous - you’ll have to square it with yourself somehow that people ARE interested and it doesn’t seem to be waning

I never said "no one", i said its waning (read what i wrote not what you imagined) a weekend poll had 52% saying they wouldn't watch the coronation, compare that to my my Mums generation.. its on the wane and KC may well be the last Monarch.

Pottedpalm · 11/04/2023 08:10

I didn’t think I would be interested in watching the Queen’s funeral but ended up watching every slow-marching moment. It was an extraordinary spectacle.
will watch the coronation, though I am no royalist; it’s history in the making.

CordyLines · 11/04/2023 10:49

There was no choice regarding the late Queen's funeral, there had to be one!
Also the woman was vastly admired and in many cases well loved and her funeral was a celebration of her long life and devotion to duty.

The Coronation of C + C on the other hand to me is a celebration of the accession of two non entities to the highest accolade in the land. It could have been pared down to something interesting, traditional and historic, but it does not require us to bow in adoration of them. It seems a bit indulgent and somewhat tacky in this day and age, and honestly I cringe at the thought of it all. I wonder if they feel in any way indulgent or embarrassed by it themselves or do they not see anything outside their privileged bubble?

Bread and circuses are needed for the peasants though.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 11/04/2023 11:18

Still it doesn’t prove your assertion that more people visit France it because it’s bigger but because it doesn’t have a monarchy.

Besides Bucks Palace is open half the time Versailles is, so unsurprising fewer people visit.

YouGov March 2023

Ive searched and I can’t find your statistic you’ll have to link to it.

This May shock you but normally more than 1 person lives in a house.

Again it’s clearly not on the wane as the majority are invested in the RF and billions turn out for Royal events. But tell yourself what you want if it makes you feel better

Blossomtoes · 11/04/2023 11:28

Who’s required to “bow down in adoration”? It’s a coronation, part of our national tradition. It’s got nothing to do with the people on the throne, they’re symbolic. Watch it, don’t watch it - nobody cares.

CordyLines · 11/04/2023 11:31

Some posters are getting rather defensive and offended.

Novella4 · 11/04/2023 11:35

It is NOT our tradition

He's being crowned and made head of a religion which now a minority interest !

The world has changed a lot in 70 years . Imposing this without consultation makes a mockery of the UK
Let's have a voice about whether we want this charade

The majority are not interested
The majority say charles should pay for all or part of this feudal nonsense

frustratednomad · 11/04/2023 11:36

If it's raining or blowing a gale I might watch it, otherwise I'll be sitting in the garden drinking wine.

It may not be a tradition you want but it definitely is one that goes back several centuries.

How do you know what the majority want?

Chuckydidit · 11/04/2023 11:49

I don’t think that most people care about the gormless twat OP. Everyone laughs at us anyway. Charles & Camilla are just 2 more reasons for this. Harry’s well out if it.

Mostar · 11/04/2023 12:09

The whole notion of monarchy is that there is a small number of people who, by virtue of lineage, are naturally superior to everyone else, and we should therefore bow before them and thank God for their wonderfulness.

No, just fuck off with that idea.

I’m sorry you totally misunderstand the whole notion of constitutional monarchy. I thought schools did better than that.

Novella4 · 11/04/2023 12:23

@Blossomtoes

Your beloved you.gov poll showed a majority not interested in the con a nation

I don't believe polls - 1,700 people ?

I DO believe the following facts:

  • thousands had street parties for the jubilee 16,000 parties I think . How many planned for Chuck ? 245
And most of those are in England .Disunited kingdom .

Little interest in the 'volunteerI' day.

Reduced route for golden carriage ( they'll try to sell that as being green or some other laughable reason - all royal appearances have falling numbers now)

BashfulClam · 11/04/2023 12:28

JuneBridie · 10/04/2023 16:13

I’m Scottish, no one I know gives a flying fuck about the royals in general. Everyone I know is planning on actively avoiding the ceremony coverage, just like they did with the diamond jubilee and the queen’s funeral.

I’m Scottish and I will watch it. I work with several people who used to be in the military abc it’s important to them.. most people I know are going to watch it. Saying you are ‘Scottish’ is irrelevant as you say later on you weren’t saying ‘all ‘Scottish people’ so why include it?

Blossomtoes · 11/04/2023 12:30

My beloved yougov poll? I didn’t even know there was a poll! If you think the number of street parties is indicative of support for the monarchy I have a bridge to sell you.

Apologies, I obviously missed the election where we all got to choose our head of state.

You also missed the meaning of constitutional monarchy.

WhatTheHeckyPeck · 11/04/2023 12:32

I didn't give a fat rat's craic for the jubilee, the queen's funeral or whichever one of them get's married so Charlie getting his new hat means sod all to me.

Mostar · 11/04/2023 12:38

Blossomtoes · 11/04/2023 12:30

You also missed the meaning of constitutional monarchy.

Does it mean one family living in fabulous unearned wealth and privilege at the expense of everyone else? Oh right, it does.

Sunshineismyfriend · 11/04/2023 12:40

Literally read your first post and nothing else but I don’t care either. They should put the money to the nhs or something worthwhile to benefit the country.

Erin2023 · 11/04/2023 13:26

I do not care .. I am disgusted at the money spent on it as the NHS and schools are on a rapid decline and could do with any extra money,

But also I am not wanting this bank holiday .. as a teacher every hour with my GCSE, AS and A2 classes makes a difference between now and their exams. Such bad and frustrating timing before exam season.
