To think this was not enough food?

Went to visit a relative yesterday.

There were five adults, a teenager and two younger kids.

Dinner was two supermarket pizzas, 4 potato waffles and 15 chicken nuggets between all of us.

As usual her kids dived in and had to be reminded there were others.

DS is autistic and pizza is one of his safe foods. He would only touch one of them as it was plain cheese, and this only had about three slices (because DH and I gave him ours). He was hungry as he hadn't eaten lunch (he only eats one out of lunch and dinner most days).

Ended up having to get food on the way home.

AIBU to think that this wasn't enough, and I f you offer to cater for people you actually provide enough food?

I’m not. What a wild assumption to make in order to create a narrative that I have an eating disorder.

I’m screaming with laughter inside! The “eating disorder “ is so typical MN. L3ThirtySeven, you make a valid point about an obviously stingy offering and you’ve got an eating disorder 😂. Wild assumption indeed.

L3ThirtySeven · 09/04/2023 08:27

Yes, I’m being serious. 3 slices is enough unless it is a small pizza. We’ve always eaten 2 slices and a bit of green salad and that’s dinner as teens/adults.

Do you all have very sedentary lifestyles?

MsRosley · 09/04/2023 09:29

GiltEdges · 09/04/2023 08:20

No, clearly not enough food and poor quality food at that. Trying to imagine why anyone would ever think it reasonable to serve potato waffles to guests Confused

Quite. Nursery food for five adults. Ugh. I'm a lazy cook, but I'm not that lazy.

MysteryBelle · 09/04/2023 09:30

What a grim meal.

Easterfunbun · 09/04/2023 09:31

@L3ThirtySeven

Theyre not large dominoes pizzas they’re supermarket ones. God, I bet your guests have fun 😂 bet they go home and have a feed lol.

mondaytosunday · 09/04/2023 09:31

Always over cater (and not the kind of food I'd serve guests anyway, even family unless it was mentioned before hand it was very casual).
My family once travelled three hours to visit friends for lunch to see their new house. My husband was a big guy and I was breastfeeding and we had a toddler. It was quite a long journey for the little ones.
Our lovely hosts brought out a big salad of mostly greens. We assumed it was a starter so helped ourselves to a starter size portion. Luckily the toddler liked salad (and I'd brought food for him just in case as our hosts didn't have kids and might not have foods he'd like).
But that was it! There was nothing else. Salad for lunch is fine if there's a good variety of veggies and maybe a protein like eggs or chicken with a bit of bread in the side. But this was lettuce, a few tomatoes and cucumbers and maybe a pepper.
Needless to say we stopped on the way back for a real lunch.
(I've also experienced the reverse, again travelling some distance for lunch and the starter was a lovely array of antipasti which my husband assumed was the meal so dug in. It wasn't - there were two more courses!)

I’d also love to know the answer to that

Making sure she isn’t grabby or ungrateful maybe?

I’m not. What a wild assumption to make in order to create a narrative that I have an eating disorder.

No wilder than your assertion that eating more than two slices of pizza is gluttonous and the reason people are obese.

Cheap supermarket pizza is packed full of fat and salt. If you’re going to eat it, don’t kid yourself that limiting yourself to two slices is virtuous.

nomoremerlot · 09/04/2023 09:35

L3ThirtySeven · 09/04/2023 08:21

I think it’s actually enough food unless the pizzas were very small. No wonder we have an obesity crisis if the OP thinks three slices of pizza for their DS is so little they had to stop and buy more food on the way home. It’s also depressing to note zero salad or vegetables in that meal.

Maybe there was sweetcorn on the pizza ?GrinGrin

It's no where near enough, give over with your obesity crusts nonsense!

Rollerpiggy · 09/04/2023 08:22

We’re the waffles cut up or were you expected to fight to the death for them?

I reckon a duel!

GoodChat · 09/04/2023 09:35

@nomoremerlot obesity crusts is a great typo for this thread!

That wasn’t my assertion. You’re twisting my words.

SequinsandStilettos · 09/04/2023 09:36

1/4 pizza each, 1/2 waffle and 2 nuggets is bizarre, aye.
Unless she had to cook for hers and you overstayed your welcome and had, in fact, gate crashed.
Those portions work for 4 - 1/2 pizza, a waffle each and 4 nuggets a piece.
Were you officially invited for lunch?

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/04/2023 09:36

Were they expecting you to stay for dinner?

CallingintheClowns · 09/04/2023 09:36

was it a snack or a main meal?

CallingintheClowns · 09/04/2023 09:36

was it a snack or a main meal?

It's clearly not a snack. Who has that as a snack?

Ilovecleaning · 09/04/2023 09:38

GoodChat · 09/04/2023 09:25

Pizza, chicken nuggets and potato waffles are pretty safe foods to serve children

I do see the lack of logic in my post - double the crap! 🤣

BarbaraofSeville · 09/04/2023 09:40

Enough food for what?

To be served at a planned meal to which you were invited, no.

If it was all that was available when you didn't take the hint that you'd overstayed your welcome so they felt obliged to share what they had with you, then yes.

But until the OP clarifies the circumstances, no-one can say.

Sisisimone · 09/04/2023 09:41

I would have assumed that that was just for the kids & teen and that adult food would be on its way tbh. Sounds like they forgot you were coming and its all they could muster from the freezer.

Passthechocolatesplease · 09/04/2023 09:41

Well it obviously wasn’t enough, but maybe they hadn’t planned for the OP to stay and eat, maybe they were just expecting a casual visit. Maybe it was all the snack type food they had in the house.
I think it’s a bit disingenuous of the OP to start whingeing about it, they hardly starved to death!

SunshineGeorgie · 09/04/2023 09:43

This is the kind of thread the daily Mail love!

Are you ready to be outed OP?

Hellybelly84 · 09/04/2023 09:44

That sounds like just the dinner for the kids. Surely you would at least have several more pizzas with that amount of adults (even if you just offered salad etc on the side). Were they expecting to do dinner? Could they have just thrown something together or did they know you were eating there? I wpuldn’t ever serve waffles to adults (as yummy as they are!)😀 Lots of pizzas and salad would have been fine.

Do you all have very sedentary lifestyles?

Not at all. In fact as soon as the rain stops I have at least a metric tonne of gravel to shovel and shift to top up my driveway. It will be wet and heavier than that though but I have to get it done as I’m replacing a 3m x 3m gravel section of my garden with turf. I’ve already done my 3 mile walk this morning. And I have hung out a load of washing (doing that on the side). Weather app says rain will stop in next half hour…
