I get a lash lift every 6ish weeks and my nails done when I'm off work.

I get an expensive (£210) treatment on my hair twice a year that makes it much easier to manage.

That's it but my DP thinks it's excessive?!

I really don't think it is? What do you get?

OP posts:
SerenaB12 · 09/04/2023 18:41

Eyelashes £40pm infill
Hollywood wax £48 pm
Upper legs wax £12pm
Haircut £60 per 6 weeks.
Didn't do the lashes for awhile.. but the time spent NOT doing makeup in AM makes it worth it.
The wax is just for me..single so no one to impress just like being waxed as opposed to not.
The hair I can take or leave. The lashes are non negotiable.

reddwarfgeek · 09/04/2023 18:58

Less than £100 a year.

I cut and colour my own hair. I'm not a hairdresser, I just seem to have the eye for it and taught myself. I will not pay hairdresser prices...they are extortionate. Do nails myself sometimes when I fancy.
Once or twice a year I'll get my eyebrows waxed or nails done. I can go months without either.
I save money on fake tan as I'm more of the gothic type 😅

However I can see me getting botox/vitamin c injections in the next few years at £200 a go.

ElinorDashwood68 · 09/04/2023 19:17

Haircut every 6 weeks £65
Botox every 4-6 months £150
Facial every 6/8 weeks £125 to £300 depending on which facial

Badbudgeter · 09/04/2023 20:43

I get my hair cut once a year at a cost of about £40. I’ve not had it done since last March and I’m wondering if I could save cash by cutting it myself.

I do epilate do that saves waxing and I’m lucky enough to have decent skin/ nails so I look half decent with little effort. Or so I tell myself.

MrsRinaDecker · 09/04/2023 22:01

This thread might be a good place to ask.. with acrylic nails, if I’m needing infills, can I change the colour or would I need a whole new set?

SwordToFlamethrower · 09/04/2023 22:43

Hair colour myself.
Manicure myself.
Pedicure myself.
Leg wax myself.
Don't shave under arms anymore.
Nail polish myself but rarely.
Hair cut once or twice a year.

I got botox once and it was absolutely awful. Felt like self harm and the procedure was incredibly painful.

Also didn't work! When I splashed water on my face, my muscles would spasm. Asked the woman about it and she said she had never heard of it before and had no suggestions for me.

Butterfly44 · 09/04/2023 22:46

I'm quite low maintenance.
Haircut every 3-4 months. Colour myself.
Gel nails I'll get done in summer
LVL every 2 months or so.
Massage when I go on spa days, maybe 3 times a year.

Sophie89j · 09/04/2023 22:59

Literally nothing. When I had more time I did get nails done I think it was 4 weekly, before got remarried I had bikini waxing, before fell pregnant I was a sun bed user but now with an 11mo, two teens and a full time job o don’t have the time or the energy. I think I’d fall asleep if I had 12 minutes of sun bed action now.

elm26 · 10/04/2023 03:45

Nails and brow wax every 3 weeks.

Hair every 11 weeks including colour.

0.5ml lip filler once a year.

Pedicure once every 6 weeks throughout sandal season (end of April to October).

I shave instead of waxing.

Cakeorchocolate · 10/04/2023 09:32

Hair colour anywhere between 1 and 4 times a year.

Nothing else.

Ourshoddyhouse · 10/04/2023 09:36

Hair cut every 7-8 weeks £40
Gel nails with biab every 3-4 weeks £35
Brows waxed & tinted as & when £10

Lennon80 · 10/04/2023 10:02

Depends on age too how much you spend - before I was 40 I did my own highlights and my only outgoing was on hair cuts. Now I spend a fortune on injections for my face, facials, good skin products etc.

PartingGift · 10/04/2023 11:45

People who are posting to say "I don't spend any money, neither do any of my friends, what a waste of money!"

Money is only wasted if you spend it on something you don't need, want, or can't afford.

One of my friends often tells me that I am wasting my money on my £63 a month gym membership. She is happy to spend over 5 times that amount on her car each month, while I am happy to drive an old banger. Different people like different things, and that's okay.

Also, OP started this thread because her husband thought she was spending excessively on beauty treatments - as long as she is using her own money and can afford it, he should butt out! I bet he spends money on stuff that he likes but OP wouldn't be remotely interested in.

HoboSexualOnslow · 10/04/2023 12:08

Hair every 8 weeks £150
Facial 6 weeks £70
Sports massage monthly £60
Relaxing massages/treatments as and when

NotAnotherUserNumber · 10/04/2023 12:42

@Lamelie It makes me feel inadequate because I worry that I am not doing enough to keep up with social norms and will look out of place.

I am turning 45 in a few weeks and this has made me reflective on aging. I am worried that what used to be a low maintenance, natural approach has overtime become letting myself go!

Growlybear83 · 10/04/2023 14:07

But if you're happy with how you look, what does it matter what anyone else thinks? I don't understand why you would want to keep up with 'social norms'. I'm 65 and have never had a beauty treatment in my life. My skin is better than any of my friends of my age, and I last went to a hairdresser about 7 years ago. My hair is almost waist length and in really good condition, and I trim it myself when it needs it. If people want to spend loads of money on different treatments, that's up to them but I think it's awful if anyone feels pressured to have things like that done and I'm happy to be growing old gracefully. Im quite capable of plucking my own eyebrows, taking care of my skin, shaving etc and would hate to have anyone else doing things like that for me. I spend a lot on clothes and take pride in my appearance but I dress in a way that makes me feel good rather than other people, and I don't give a stuff what anyone else thinks.

Sennelier1 · 10/04/2023 19:30

Nothing. Seriously.
I have very long hair, only soft shampoo and wide comb. DP cuts the ends straight once a year or so.

I keep my nails very short, use nice lotions etc. but don't go to a beauty parlour. Same for my feet. I paint my nails myself.
I have very little bodyhair and what I have I shave myself (armpits, legs, intimate zone)
I use top brands of facial creams but hardly any make-up except for mascara.

I'm not frugal at all, I'm just not interested in all this.

I do spend on travel, books, our house, our (grand)children, nice clothes and handbags, good food&wine.

Dassams · 10/04/2023 20:43

It would be fun to see photos of everyone, both of those who spend a lot on cosmetic treatments and fake lashes/lips nails and those who have a more natural look.

Personally I only spend about £60 once or twice a year on a hair cut. I keep my nails short and generally don't wear make up. I look after myself by exercising, eating well and protecting myself from the sun. I prefer to spend my money on traveling, good food and wine etc. I'm mid 50s btw.

SezFrankly · 11/04/2023 09:57

Men: Don’t spend money on beauty treatments
Also Men: My wife has stopped making an effort.

That aside, it doesn’t sound excessive in the slightest - and as long as you feel you’re getting a pamper and a feel good treatment, he should be happy you’re happy

NotAnotherUserNumber · 11/04/2023 11:08

@Growlybear83
Two reasons probably. Firstly, like many people, I often feel insecure and unsure whether I am happy with my appearance. I might be happy with how I look if I was marooned on a desert island, but we don’t live in isolation and I can’t help but compare myself to others sometimes.

Secondly, I am well aware that people are constantly judged on their appearances, even if this isn’t conscious or intentional. Social norms do exist and are constantly shifting and context dependent. There is plenty of research that shows that things like sentencing for criminal charges, employment opportunities, perceived factors like professionalism and kindness, and how others treat us in general, are all affected by physical appearance cues.

Who others perceive you as has a substantial effect on day to day life, whether we like it or not.
Bringing this back to me, I have a quandary in that I don’t really want to do any beauty treatments, but equally don’t want to look unusual or out of place.

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 04/05/2023 22:27

Please people, don't correct them when they start going on about how they can always tell when someone has had Botox or filler. It's in our interests to think that it always, or even usually, results in the blow-up Kardashian look. They really believe that and it works to our advantage because they don't have a clue how it's usually done. Don't let on - they think they're switched ok but they don't actually suspect a thing when they see it!

I completely agree.

Jack80 · 12/05/2023 21:31

I get my hair dyed and highlights done by a friend who is a mobile hairdresser at mates rates every 4/5 weeks. I get my nails done builder gel by a friend who does it as a business who I used to work for and my eyebrows get done every few months just a wax usually by my friend who does my nails. I don’t buy much makeup, if I do I buy it cruelty free and it lasts me ages and it’s the cheaper end make up not very often and only buy clothes when I need them or go away.

notamumyet2010 · 12/05/2023 21:37

A lot more than you! Nails every 2 weeks, pedicure every month, Legs, armpits, bikini & brows waxed every month, eye brow tint every 8 weeks, hair cut and dye 3x a year.
Don’t let him make you feel bad!

Bunchymcbunchface · 12/05/2023 21:41
