'Queen' Camilla

Replitad · 04/04/2023 23:12

I wouldn't have called myself a republican before now but I think the 'Queen' Camilla thing has tipped me over the edge.

Pretty audacious considering their history and I think a lot of the public won't agree. I certainly won't be celebrating or even watching coronation.

The royal family are in a position of supreme power in the UK.
What power do they actually have? They have a lot of money, and properties and a huge number of ceremonial roles. That's not power. I'm sure the weekly monarch/PM chats and very interesting but I doubt they influence policy much.

You don't think the king of England has power? Just because he doesn't write laws, doesn't mean he has no power.

He goes around the world representing the UK, in a position of power.

Didn't he just go to Germany, representing the UK, where he met with multiple influential people and politicians.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 05/04/2023 00:58

With royal titles some things just happen automatically. The wife of HM The King is HM The Queen. That’s the official title.

She is a Queen consort. Just as QEQM, Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra. She is known through her husbands reign as both HM The Queen and HM Queen Firstname.

When they are widowed they become HM Queen Firstname as their official title.

If their child becomes monarch they also become the Queen Mother. Mary and Alexandra were both QM, but didn’t use it as there was no need. Elizabeth used it because of her daughter having the same name.

This is no different to the fact that Camilla has been HRH The Princess of Wales for the last nearly 20 years. Some titles they have. Some they use. Some they use for a while.

Using Queen Consort was only ever to differentiate her from the recently deceased Queen.

Actually I’m going to bed I CBA arguing with thickos who have absolutely no idea what they’re going on about

anti-royalists are 'thickos' are they?

please, take your peevish little self to bed.

Yes I heard the same and am surprised.

The
past is the past and the couple do seem happy, however there is no doubt Camilla was predatory, scheming and I think her being the Queen is a bit much.

However there's nowt anyone can do, it's not our business. They are both in their mid seventies, won't last forever, then we'll have King and Queen William and Catherine. I say 'we', I won't be around then.

You’d hate to hear what Queen Mary (Consort of George V) did if you think Camilla is bad.

Not to mention the last consort we had was a bit dodgy, with Nazi siblings and racist undertones.

But we can’t have a woman who isn’t St Diana being called the title she has a right to be called. Sacrilege!

‘King’ is considered a higher rank than ‘Queen’ so a king consort would assume a higher position, when it’s not. Which is why Prince Philip was never styled as King.

He was a prince in his own right though, he didnt get the title on marriage

No just 2 posters who are talking drivel and don’t understand the basics of titles. Even when presented with evidence.

Have no idea why you thought I meant anti-royalists.

And? What do we need to vote him in for? A man going to Germany on a state visit? That’s not power in a democratic sense.

Vanderlayinfustries · 04/04/2023 23:27

When they married they promised she would never be queen

Tradition was broken when the marriage was allowed! So it shouldn't be followed for naming protocol.

I'm with the op

She was always going to be Queen. Promises or not.

this was always their plan

Teapot13 · 05/04/2023 01:00

Are you also annoyed that Queen Elizabeth II was not called Queen Regnant in everyday speech?

massivenamechnage · 05/04/2023 00:58

Not quite.

He was born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark - a title that he renounced when he became engaged to the then Princess Elizabeth.

Then he was simply the D of E.

Then he was titled as Prince Philip, Dike of Edinburgh.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 05/04/2023 01:03

Rosula · 05/04/2023 00:58

And he has to follow strictly everything the government tells him to do and say.

He also has to remain politically neutral.

He can of course have private views, but they are never to be expressed publicly (rightly so).

The last monarch who displayed political persuasions nearly had us under Nazi rule and had he not abdicated God knows what this country would look like now. He was essentially forced out and exiled

He is going to Germany on that state visit, because he has decided that he is better than anyone else because of his birth.

It annoys me that he was over there visiting Angela Merkel ( who was voted in democratically by the public). Angela was voted in, in a democratic manner.

Charles was there because he believes he deserves to be there because of his birth. It's ridiculous. It really is.

But to argue how ridiculous this is, I have to point out how ridiculous the royal family is altogether. And people just do not want to hear it.

VixHex · 05/04/2023 01:09

I wish the entire royal family would cease to exist. I loathe the whole thing. It baffles me that people want to be 'subjects' of someone no more or less remarkable or deserving than anybody else.

Until the Republic happens, I really could not care less what any of them decide to call themselves.

God you sound like a child.

He is King due to a birthright that’s not fault of his own. He’s been dealt a shitty card and it’s either a case of going with it or losing it all like Uncle David did.

State visits are not there to influence power but broker good relations, raise awareness and raise profiles. They are public visits for a reason. Lots of monarchies across the globe do the same. similarly with the Commonwealth, it’s about likeminded nations coming together for all sorts of reasons. Not because they ‘think they’re better than everyone’ 🙄

Okay.

Let's have one family to reign over us all forever and ever.

No matter how many pedophiles, corruption, and bad behaviour is in that family.

Yet you say I sound like a child. At least I'm capable of critical thinking. I'm not a sheep simply rolling over and accepting idiotic and corrupt rulers

"State visits are not there to influence power".

Well you are naive!

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 05/04/2023 01:15

They don’t rule 🤣 and ruling is not reigning.

No one is ‘accepting corrupt rules’ WRT the RF. they don’t rule.

And you say I’m incapable of critical thinking. It’s all quite simple.

The RF are of very little consequence to most of us. You can ignore them and nothing will change.

However we DO have corrupt rulers and it ain’t the RF. I’d rather expend my energy on getting cross about them

Well seeing as you obviously know (despite failing to have a basic grasp of the function of the RF) tell me what power you think KCIII was trying to get? And I mean actual democratic power, not just being richer than other people

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 05/04/2023 01:17

Not to benefit in any way?

AskMeMore · 05/04/2023 01:19

The Queen did not even attend their wedding.
And now Camilla will be Queen.
