To be annoyed about Wet Wipes ban

I have never put them down the toilet, but because too many stupid people do, I will no longer be able to clean my bum hole properly!
And don't have a large bathroom so there's no space for a bidet, before anyone suggests it.

I have IBS When i crap its really messy. One flannel aint gonna do the job. I challenge anyone who thinks so to let me park my naked arse on their sofa after i have followed this "advice" Toilet paper alone doesnt do it either. I use bum wipes THEN i dispose of them in scented nappy bags tie bag up tightly and bin. I never flush them despite what they say on the pack. And any housing officer or anyone else who accused me of doing so would get the proof that i dont shown to them REALLY CLOSELY!!!

Caspianberg · 04/04/2023 12:26

@Albiboba - all the time.
I used washable nappies and wipes with Ds. He’s only just out of nappies last summer so a recent thing. Still use wipes daily for face and if needed on his butt.

You don’t carry a Tupperware with shitty nappy water around! Why would you? I always stored my wipes dry, and wet as needed. Out and about they were taken dry, and wet either in sink if available of water from a bottle. We travelled with the washable nappies also.

I honestly don’t know why 99% of people even think disposable nappies and wipes are acceptable on a daily basis today. It’s a horrific amount of waste and pollution that just gets dumped in landfill. Almost everyone could use reusable to an extent even if they only used part time.

emmsyg · 04/04/2023 12:27

@Albiboba of course you don’t have to use them if your circumstances don’t allow. But I don’t carry water, I literally have a waterproof bag of damp wipes and another one for dirty ones for the wash. It’s no bigger than carrying a bag of disposable wipes. I’m not dandering around with a Tupperware full of water. I use them out and about all the time, it’s really not a big hassle.

But travelling, yes, without access to a washing machine I can see how that would be a bit more awkward. However just because your personal circumstances mean that you can’t/don’t wish to use them, it may be a viable option for many people, so shouldn’t be dismissed.

Also, I work full time, and my father in law who does some childminding and is in his late 60s gets on fine with using them, as do nursery.

gogohmm · 04/04/2023 12:27

Bucket with a lid, pile of washcloths, jug of water, wash weekly/fortnightly depending on quantities you have.

Amazing new invention, wet flannel.
plenty at home.
can be carried in a plastic bag or sandwich box if out and about.

will save you money and might even help to save the planet and all the creatures who live on it.

Who knew ????

It will be a frosty day in hell before I carry a shitty wet flannel anywhere on my person. Gross.

I don't use wet wipes on my bum either. Have managed to get through 60 years on a non-stinky anus with just toilet roll - though that spray sounds like a good idea.

However, suitably chastened nonetheless, when my chronic bowel condition send me flying urgently to the loo for the umpteenth time that day, I shall remember to sit there and contemplate the future of the planet.

whyhere · 04/04/2023 12:31

JackiePlace · 04/04/2023 10:01

There aren't any that don't contain plastic, though. Manufacturers will claim there are and sell loads of them before anyone investigates, that's all.

This isn't so. Andrew Washlets (the ones I've always used) do NOT contain plastic and ARE flushable.

Asthebellcurves · 04/04/2023 12:31

Family cloth? Hilarious. I would rather the planet burn than carry around a poo flannel in my bag because some people think the answer is individual suffering rather than industry regulation.

We have a bidet attachment to our toilets. Cost £30 each, took five minutes to install and our toilet paper consumption has gone down a lot, we just use it to dry. Even our children use the bidets. I’m not a shattaf fan, due to the mess and angles involved, so the bidet is a great alternative.

Btrsun10 · 04/04/2023 12:32

I'm so glad this is happening!
I remember reading another thread and was so shocked by the amount of people that thought it was ok to flush sanitary products down the loo!
I mean if they are doing, what's a few wet wipes?
Honestly, how do people not know this??

Fupoffyagrasshole · 04/04/2023 12:33

Honestly I've never even needed a wet wipe for my daughter who is now 2's bum!! just used cheeky wipes - even for poo explosions when out and about! i have a double bag for them (a with a mesh bag zipped into it) and when i get home i just chuck in the machine with laundry sanitiser.

fairgame84 · 04/04/2023 09:54

We don't have a bidet, we use a bum jug that we got from amazon.
You can also get a bum gun that you can self install onto the toilet water supply.
DH just uses a plastic bottle of water when he's at work.

@fairgame84

why not just toilet paper?

fairgame84 · 04/04/2023 12:40

LuckySantangelo35 · 04/04/2023 12:36

@fairgame84

why not just toilet paper?

As I explained, DH is Muslim. Muslims have to clean with water after pooing.

whyhere · 04/04/2023 12:40

I'm really surprised how many people seem to think that toilet paper alone is sufficient. And the comments about diet are very odd - if toilet paper alone is working, the stool is way too hard - that's when the diet needs adjusting. As another poster eloquently put it upthread:
For those posters who have never used wipes, you will be surprised at what is left on your bum after just using dry loo rolls. It's the same as if you tried to wipe off your make up using a tissue and nothing else.It helps to prevent urine infections in women, as most are caused by e. coli from faeces.

Didiplanthis · 04/04/2023 12:41

There are many many people with birth injuries, chronic bowel conditions and disabilities who would love to be able to wipe with toilet roll and be clean. They already struggle with embarrassment and humiliation, I'm sure being judged and ridiculed by those who have never had to worry about such things makes them feel so much better... and most will where possible bin not flush...

Maple2023 · 04/04/2023 12:43

I use plastic free ones and bin them, or a bidet bottle (bottle washing for preventing UTIs)

They do need to be available to people who need them, as a carer I used them daily for people and no, a flannel and toilet paper doesn't work

Swg · 04/04/2023 12:44

I'm someone who finally upgraded to a bum gun last year when we needed a new toilet. They are amazing. Total fame changer.

Yes there is a medical condition involved but not a particularly uncommon one on a mums forum! I have a prolapse that couldn't be fully repaired and very heavy messy periods. I used to spend a few days a month going through stupid amounts of toilet paper trying to clean up every toilet trip. Now I actually feel clean sometimes.

SpringHexagon · 04/04/2023 12:45

Crying with laughter at the pictures in my head, never mind Google 😂

JenniferBooth · 04/04/2023 12:46

The Sainsburys ones upthread are the ones i use

AlltheFs · 04/04/2023 09:54

Use washable wipes and think of the bloody planet!
Anyone using disposable anything needs a slap quite honestly.

This!

Get yourself a few cheap flannels - different colour for different family members. Rinse them after use and put them in a bin of bleach solution.

SofiaSoFar · 04/04/2023 12:49

Moveoverdarlin · 04/04/2023 10:17

Why are so many grown women wiping their bums with flannels, wet wipes, bum guns, bum jugs and bidets? It’s a genuine question, why isn’t toilet roll working for you?

If you somehow got shit on your arm, would you just wipe it with a piece of dry paper or wash it off?

SiobhanSharpe · 04/04/2023 12:49

After a holiday in Japan 10 years ago I fell in love with Japanese toilets so when we moved and had a bathroom re-done we had one installed.
(After a 10 hour flight to Tokyo we got off the plane and I had to go to the toilet at the airport - I thought it would be gross after a plane load of people had used it. OMG. It was all pristine and shiny, with lights, it played a little tune when you sat down and cleaned you most effectively. I deciphered the instructions with the aid of the icons, and all in all it was a wonderful experience. Really. Perked me up no end.)
They are a ridiculous price here but I love ours, especially as we had no room for a bidet. It has a remote control, heated seat, night light, bum wash and fanny wash, drier and odour extraction. The drier function is the only thing that isn't great just because it takes a while so we also have a bum towel on a hook by the bog.

Kazzyhoward · 04/04/2023 12:50

Not just the environment though. At our office, we're on a septic tank shared with a couple of other properties. It needs emptying every year and the pipework often needs rodding as it backs up when blocked. Whenever they empty it, they say it's literally full of wet wipes, but neither of the neighbours admit to using them and flushing them! Well someone is, and it's not us!

Dirtydiesel · 04/04/2023 12:54

"Get yourself a few cheap flannels - different colour for different family members. Rinse them after use and put them in a bin of bleach solution."

So you are speaking from experience as a carer?

LlynTegid · 04/04/2023 12:55

100% behind the proposal, sooner the better.

Perhaps the OP could use copies of the tabloid referred to on herself. Though unlike their Hillsborough coverage, they are telling the truth.

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 04/04/2023 12:56

I can't believe some of you are walking around with shitty flannels in your handbags. What the actual fuck.

Broadbeachshallow · 04/04/2023 12:56

whyhere · 04/04/2023 12:31

This isn't so. Andrew Washlets (the ones I've always used) do NOT contain plastic and ARE flushable.

Andrex washlets are sold in plastic packs. So not plastic-free.
