To be annoyed about Wet Wipes ban

I have never put them down the toilet, but because too many stupid people do, I will no longer be able to clean my bum hole properly!
And don't have a large bathroom so there's no space for a bidet, before anyone suggests it.

WET wipes are set to be banned to stop them clogging sewer pipes. The move emerged as the Government told advertising watchdogs to challenge some firms who say their wipes are flushable when many a…

@Switchwitch oh I know, we did reusables full time for over 12 months, we reduced to part time because of the cost of energy. DS always seemed to do a poo when there was no sink available. I bought a designated spray bottle but takes ages with a screaming and wriggling child who hates having their nappy changed. We still use them at home. I already use plastic free wipes.

QueenBeaver · 04/04/2023 12:59

Just been reading the reviews on Amazon for one such item. All I can think about the reviewers is them wiping their bums 😆 😆

@fairgame84

why not just toilet paper?

If you got shit on your arm, would you just dry wipe it away?
Seriously?
Who want dry bits of shit festering on their skin? So close to their vagina? Gross.

I like a flushable wipe, but had never heard of the wype gel until this thread, so will look into that

Exl · 04/04/2023 13:04

Don’t worry OP, that’s just a sensationalist headline designed to get people worked up. If you want actual news try the BBC website which will explain that it is only a certain type of wet wipe that would be banned (and that the last time this idea went to public consultation they abandoned the plan).

I agree with you though that it’s baffling how many people flush them. Depressingly large number of thick selfish idiots in UK it seems.

PrinceAperol · 04/04/2023 13:06

Given the damage they do to the environment I think it's the right decision. I'd be happy for them to be banned completely tbh. They are not necessary.

PhilNW · 04/04/2023 13:06

If you had worked on sewers and sewage treatment works like me, you would definitely think twice about what you put down the toilet and drains !!

Boogismyname · 04/04/2023 13:10

Boots own brand baby wipes are biodegradable and are plastic free.

sst1234 · 04/04/2023 13:11

How about some water. Novel idea, right? Not to millions around the world who keep it simple and wash with water.

Viviennemary · 04/04/2023 13:11

A lot of things will need to change. Banning wet wipes is a start. Can't believe the number of folk installing woodburners about time they were banned.

Catspyjamas17 · 04/04/2023 13:12

Fair enough to crack down on firms claiming they are flushable when they aren't.

Catspyjamas17 · 04/04/2023 13:12

Woodburners haven't been banned.

iaapap · 04/04/2023 13:12

there are quite a lot of biodegradable wipes that are plastic free, just get those ones

GirlOfTudor · 04/04/2023 13:23

You really saw a Sun article and believed the headline? SMH.

I can't believe some of you are walking around with shitty flannels in your handbags. What the actual fuck.

And given you've been completely oblivious, it can't be that gross then can it.

It's the same principle as reusable sanitary pads - you have a sealable waterproof bag for the used ones when out and about.

No-one knows unless you tell them.

People need to stop sacrificing the planet for personally convenience. If everyone had to dispose of their own plastic waste minds would soon sharpen once the heap of rubbish built up in their garden. It doesn't magically disappear once it's flushed or in a bin, you just no longer have to look at it.

That's rinsingyour bum, not cleaning it. Rinsing and cleaning are two different things!

What's the goal? A germ free arse after using the loo?

Why so het up about disinfecting your bum? You know that the easy option is to shower more frequently or use cloth wipes?

Beaverbridge · 04/04/2023 13:30

About time they were banned. We lived for hundreds of years without them.

Broadbeachshallow · 04/04/2023 13:30

Plastic packaging. So not plastic-free. It's green-washing a wasteful eco disaster of a product.

SofiaSoFar · 04/04/2023 12:49

If you somehow got shit on your arm, would you just wipe it with a piece of dry paper or wash it off?

Can’t you see that is different? Your arm is your arm. You do things with it, hug people etc. Your bum is your bum. You cover it and you sit on it. That’s it.

Flushing is as bad as putting them in the bin. Just causes different problems.

Landfill is not infinite. Just don't use wet wipes. Easy.

Lol. Agree. Bums stink. All bums. Even if you squeegee them with Cif.

AegonT · 04/04/2023 13:34

You just need a tap, cloth wipes and a washing machine. For poo I wipe with toilet paper first if it's very messy. Plastic free disposable ones when on holiday.

Lockheart · 04/04/2023 13:34

Its not even the bum, it's the anus. And unless you have some extremely unusual anatomy or some niche sexual preferences, the anus does not come into contact with anyone or anything else!

Your buttocks are just skin and should be clean, bar any unfortunate accidents.

Am I the only person left who just wipes their bum with toilet paper? 😳

Let's start our own 'Me, Too' movement for just toilet paper bum wipers! I can't believe that people use wet wipes for wiping their bottoms - a narketers dream, expensive and bad for the planet our children will inherit. Even if wet wipes are disposable, fuel is needed to produce and distribute them. I'm no eco warrior but this is one of my small contributions....
