To be annoyed about Wet Wipes ban

I have never put them down the toilet, but because too many stupid people do, I will no longer be able to clean my bum hole properly!
And don't have a large bathroom so there's no space for a bidet, before anyone suggests it.

I have a skin tag left after having piles so I have extra skin at my anus. I need wipes or body lotion on toilet paper to help clean out the extra crevices. Not everyone has the perfect bumhole!

Hayliebells · 04/04/2023 10:40

Where's the hygiene risk if a bum isn't cleaned properly with water? If people are picking their bums and not washing their hands, or licking other people's bums, it won't really matter how they've been cleaned, that's still gross. Bit for others, who aren't always putting their hands down their pants, and keep their bums fully clothed, where's the hygiene risk?

Instead of buying quite expensive products like Wype, you can just use a cheap body lotion or moisturiser in a pump bottle to wipe.

I would be careful about that. Most moisturisers/body lotions aren’t meant for intimate areas.

I use one that’s fragrance free and seem tested, Cerave, so I’m all good thanks. Plus my tear happened 15 years ago so is well healed.

I’m confused, are you trying to say it IS hygienic to have a dirty bum?!

60smusic · 04/04/2023 10:42

OMG I'm 😂😂 here. Try cleaning a disabled adult who wears nappies after a humongous shit with these plastic free wipes, while I fully support less plastic, these wipes break and you're left with your hand covered in shit, so you have to use two or three at once!

And no a flannel doesn't work, you'd need about 20 of them for one shit, you can't use a basin of water because the person is thrashing around and you end up with shitty water all over you.

Using jugs and water bottles etc😬😬😬 like how, what do you do? Stand up and squirt their arse until the shit is gone? Where do you even try stand or position them? While you fling a jug of water over them.

There is no fucking way I'm carrying around re usable flannels etc and carrying them home in my handbag to wash, when I get dds nappy off that crap is disposed off immediately and the house is nearly fumigated, imagine carrying around a handbag full of shit filled flannels.

Typical Sun journalism.

The only wipes being banned are those with plastic.

AT THE MOMENT many types do say FLUSHABLE but they are not.
So these are the ones that will have to change.

It's really not hard to understand.

For those posters who have never used wipes, you will be surprised at what is left on your bum after just using dry loo rolls. It's the same as if you tried to wipe off your make up using a tissue and nothing else.

It helps to prevent urine infections in women, as most are caused by e. coli from faeces.

L3ThirtySeven · 04/04/2023 10:44

I’ve never had an issue with plastic free wipes. There are dozens of brands, you can’t have tried all of them to claim they fall apart.

Hayliebells · 04/04/2023 10:45

Noone in my family cleans there bum with anything other than toilet paper (as far as I know). We're all fine and healthy. No repeated anal infections here. No recurring stomach bugs. People who have a medical need for wipes should speak to their doctor, I'm sure they'll be able to come up with a solution. They might even be able to continue to get wipes on prescription.

I asked before, how do you prevent shitty water from swooshing down towards your vulval area? I would have thought that would increase infections rather than decrease them.

KimberleyClark · 04/04/2023 10:07

Or you could even use water.

You could, not do easy if you're out & about though & the water source is outside of the toilet cubicle. But as the OP uses toilet paper that instantly disintegrates, water wouldn't work either

Jiggery · 04/04/2023 10:48

@KimberleyClark I don't know because I use wipes and bin them, both at home and in the san bins in public loos. I have IBS and sometimes go 3 x a day, not always at home.

If you use a jug at home, you are supposed to sit on the loo, pour the water from the front, and clean your bum that way.

ShimmeringShirts · 04/04/2023 10:49

If you can’t wipe your arse properly with toilet roll then that’s on you, not on the government and supermarkets doing something beneficial for the environment.

Do what Muslims have been doing for centuries, install a bum gun.

I dont think that bum guns predate modern plumbing and as such have not been around for centuries and in many part of the world are still not what Muslims use.

BishopRock · 04/04/2023 10:50

Invest in a smart loo and have your bum washed and air dried all from the comfort of the toilet seat.

No, I don't have one.

Yet...

Broadbeachshallow · 04/04/2023 10:50

A lot of people are confusing 'essential' with 'convenient'. Apart from certain medical conditions -where having wet wipes while out of the house may be essential to independence and dignity - no one needs these things. You may want them, but the cost to the planet is not worth the convenience.

Plastic-free wipes create pollution. They are packaged in plastic. Sprays and gels are packaged in plastic.

Water and cloth are viable options, certainly at home.

luckylavender · 04/04/2023 10:51

I honestly cannot believe that people are still putting these down the toilet and blocking the sewers. Selfish idiots.

CwmYoy · 04/04/2023 10:52

There are plenty available that don't contain plastic. We always use them.

justasking111 · 04/04/2023 10:53

People who don't flush them down their own loo, stick all sorts down when on holiday. Friend worked for dynorod, said one pipe burst between floors in flats, not pretty.

One carer was flushing them away which backed up in a pensioner bungalow near us.

It's a rotten job for the water board workers.

Wheresthebeach · 04/04/2023 10:53

People were able to clean their bums before wet wipes.

FrostyFifi · 04/04/2023 10:55

Clean your bumhole in the shower when you're done pooing. Or as someone said, install a bumgun and wash with soap. Both will get you cleaner than a wet wipe anyway.

Blueink · 04/04/2023 10:57

We’ve known how harmful they are for years, but many didn’t stop regular use of them so now the ban.

Use cloths, put in a ‘baby bucket’ wash and reuse them. They are more effective than a wet wipe.

Am I the only person left who just wipes their bum with toilet paper? 😳

No you're not. Thank goodness I've found you, I was beginning to feel quite unique!

Shit troll will be loving this.

Yep. People share way too much.

Moonlightsonatas · 04/04/2023 11:00

Just checked and the ones I use for my kids - the Sainsbury’s own brand ones are plastic free. I never flush them though, they go in the bathroom bin.
