To be annoyed about Wet Wipes ban

JackiePlace · 04/04/2023 09:50

I have never put them down the toilet, but because too many stupid people do, I will no longer be able to clean my bum hole properly!
And don't have a large bathroom so there's no space for a bidet, before anyone suggests it.

I’m amazed by this thread! Totally agree with banning plastic ‘flushable’ wipes- they block drains and are awful for the environment. They are not a necessity! Surely using toilet paper effectively and showering regularly is sufficient? Anyone with a medical condition requiring wipes to clean can use plastic free ones and ideally put them out in normal waste rather than flushing? In Greece you aren’t even allowed to flush toilet paper and as a country they seem to cope??!!!

JackiePlace · 04/04/2023 10:01

There aren't any that don't contain plastic, though. Manufacturers will claim there are and sell loads of them before anyone investigates, that's all.

OP none of the wipes on sale in Tesco or Boots for the last year or so have had any plastic in. There are plenty available which area plastic free. It's really not the crisis you imagine.

2010Aussie · 04/04/2023 10:14

My job takes me out and about a lot and away from toilets and running water. Wet wipes are an absolute essential for me. Very happy that they are going to ban plastics in wet wipes or anything else that isn't biodegradable, but not happy if they go altogether.

Floralnomad · 04/04/2023 10:12

No that’s what I do .

Me too. Poo then shower is my daily routine. If you’re using a bum gun how doyou prevent poopy water from swooshing towards your vulva and potentially causing infections?

i was going to make a thread asking who on earth was flushing Wet Wipes

dont do it

Shit loads of ignorant people flush them!

bloodywhitecat · 04/04/2023 10:15

Wype gel. The toilet paper doesn't disintegrate and can just be flushed. No need to be annoyed and no need for extra space.

fairgame84 · 04/04/2023 10:15

PetitPorpoise · 04/04/2023 10:13

@fairgame84 with wet wipes or sprays? I'm aware of cultural differences, but I don't see the need for all these 'products'.

No as I said up thread we have a bum jug at home and he uses a water bottle at work.
No need for wet wipes or sprays.

lljkk · 04/04/2023 10:17

Wipes aren't being banned, just plastic in them is being banned. This is very reasonable.

Moveoverdarlin · 04/04/2023 10:17

Why are so many grown women wiping their bums with flannels, wet wipes, bum guns, bum jugs and bidets? It’s a genuine question, why isn’t toilet roll working for you?

Switchwitch · 04/04/2023 10:18

PurBal · 04/04/2023 09:56

You can buy spray for regular toilet paper. Or use a flannel (aka reusable wipe / family cloth). I’m torn, we have a baby on the way and whilst I do reusable nappies part time with my toddler there’s something about a wet wipe for being on the move that’s more convenient and sanitary than a flannel I have to wet and carry home. We actually moved from full time to part time because of the cost of energy and laundering them! But maybe I’ll just be more organised going forward. 🤷‍♀️

Reusable wipes are so much easier than disposable wet wipes. The latter just smear poo around and you need 45 to clean up properly. One bamboo wipe is usually sufficient to completely clean a bum and do it swiftly. Just take wipes out dry, wet in the sink or with a bottle of water if out and about and then pop in a wet bag when dirty, go home and lob the bag straight into the wash.

TakingMilesFromInches · 04/04/2023 10:02

There loads of wipes that don’t contain plastic if you must use them. Tesco apparently haven’t sold any that contain it for about a year.

I think the point is that lots of these supposedly flushable wipes don’t actually breakdown properly and the manufacturer will need to prove they do.

I’m all for a ban though.

MeinKraft · 04/04/2023 10:18

Thank you @fairgame84 I like it, it looks like a watering can. Might get one.

Muslims have to clean with water after pooing.

FixTheBone · 04/04/2023 10:19

herewegoroundthebastardbush · 04/04/2023 09:59

Am I the only person left who just wipes their bum with toilet paper? 😳

No.

I'd never seen a baby wipe in my entire life until I got married.

My wife and mum in law drive me nuts, and use them for literally everything - wiping the table, allowing the kids to spit into them when brushing their teeth, cleaning hands, literally everything.

For me, they couldn't be banned soon enough.

Yes there are plenty of wet wipes with no plastic. Cheeky Panda is one brand.

It doesn't spray towards your vulva if you use it properly.

LittleBlueBrioTrain · 04/04/2023 10:21

If your arsehole is getting that messy with every shit, maybe you should consider some more fibre in your diet

Gallbladder disease can produce some horrible hard to clean poos, as can other medical conditions.

@Arapawa I’m tempted by one of those myself after reading this review 🤣

FailingFlyFightingtoFlutter · 04/04/2023 10:22

How do you dry after using water?

Peridot1 · 04/04/2023 10:23

The FreshX spray doesn’t make toilet roll wet enough to disintegrate @JackiePlace. You just use a couple of sprays. I find it really good.

I know. I was responding to OPs question. There will be wipes she can use if she cant cope without them.

Squamata · 04/04/2023 10:24

Well, you linked to the Sun - that makes for good toilet paper

If you read the article using an actual brain, you'll find this sentence:

'Plastic-free wipes which do break down will be exempt from any ban.'

So you will be able to use plastic-free wipes that break down to clean your precious botty. But they'll need to actually break down.

What are you getting so worked up about?
