How do I get fully vaccinated and is it still necessary for travel to US?

Coffeeko · 03/04/2023 16:21

I had 1 vaccine in December 2021 and then didn’t get my second dose so technically not fully vaccinated although had Covid several times now.

I have just booked Florida and now realised I need to be fully vaccinated (I think).

question is if I get my next dose will I still be fully vaccinated even though it was over a year ago my first dose?

do doctors and nurses still give out the second dose?

Dont forget to have your monkey pox vax as well as the bird flu shot. You know it makes sense especially if the NHS is promoting it! #EnvyOfTheEorld

😂 you stick with what " people on forums" are telling you to do.

gogohmm · 03/04/2023 20:43

@whoruntheworldgirls

My esta took 20 mins to come through last year. I have had had one before as had dp, not sure if that made the difference. They didn't check our vaccination records, though we are fully vaxxed and boosted, just had the offer of another for some reason .

sunglassesonthetable · 03/04/2023 20:43

Don't think they are 'promoting' those. I must have missed it.

GaladrielHiggins · 03/04/2023 20:45

You need 14 clear day between vaccine and travel @Coffeeko or a negative test.

sunglassesonthetable · 03/04/2023 20:51

Started a week after the Pfizer jab, ended up in A&E. Doctor confirmed that it was causing chest pains in a lot of people.

👍🏻

determinedtomakethiswork · 03/04/2023 20:53

I had to prove I had had two vaccinations before I could travel to the States the other month. Personally I think you're absolutely crazy about the vaccinations but hey, you'll fit in in the states where there are plenty of people who think in the same way.

KittyAlfred · 03/04/2023 21:08

It’s funny how all the fears about vaccines disappear a couple of years later, when they’re needed for going on holiday.

It reminds me of when “mad cow disease” was at its peak, and no one wanted to risk eating beef. Someone interviewed on TV said they’d buy the beef now while it was cheap, and put it in the freezer to eat after all the mad cow thing was sorted!

Sorry to hijack, how far in advance? We're going in Aug and were going to do the ESTA application mid May.

Please don't think I am scaremongering, but It takes 6-9 months to get a VISA should the ESTA fail, so ideally in that range.

Obviously people can apply at the airport and get approved - but why risk the holiday?

There was a case on Saturday (It's Orlando Time on FB) when a Father had taken the Son on holiday and forgot to apply - so they were not allowed to board as it wasn't approved quick enough.

Also, dont forget to add you middle names.

Oh and make sure you use the official site! its $21 each and to make it easier you can "group" the applications so you only make one payment of $21 x people.

Have a fab break!

Thank you @IGiveUpalready we've just been in and submitted the group application. I just remember last time we went we did it a month or so before going, lesson learned for future trips.

@whoruntheworldgirls
you don’t have to get esta far in advance . You can get it on the same day as travel if you like .

It's safer to have it booked and approved before your flight. People have been refused and been able to enter.

GreekDogRescue · 03/04/2023 23:02

@sunglassesonthetable If I did everything that ‘people on forums’ that is the Mumsnet forum said, I’d be on my 6th booster, wearing a mask on my own In the car and still washing my shopping.

I don't understand why you are happy to have the jabs now to go to Florida but weren't fussed about having them to protect yourself and your loved ones at the height of the pandemic but i suppose there are priorities.

This

sunglassesonthetable · 03/04/2023 23:10

Really? And any other cliches?

You need to get out and get some fresh air.

Absolutely. I'm sure you'll be fine OP, but it is always joyous when anti-vaxxers come up against the consequences of their actions.

HisNibs · 03/04/2023 18:09

Whether or not you believe in the vaccines, the USA set their rules for entry. Don't like them, don't go. Some say you're daft to not be vaccinated, some say you are if you do. What is really daft is booking a several thousand pound holiday to Florida without checking the requirements.

This is the sort of intellect of folk who didn't get a covid vaccine!

OldSkoolLikeHappyShopper · 03/04/2023 23:39

The confusing thing about them keeping it going this long for entry into the US is that even if people had 3 jabs, according to the ‘science’ they would be no more protected now than unvaccinated people, as the argument at the time was that the effects lasted 3 months if I recall correctly, which is why people had to have booster after booster. So unless you’re in the vulnerable category and still having regular jabs, for most people whose last one was well over a year ago, surely they’re no better off being vaccinated?

VodkaKnockers · 03/04/2023 23:57

Entry requirements are 2 doses with the latest being at 14 days prior to departure.

The current restrictions are due to expire on April 10th so it may be dropped or extended so worth keeping an eye on this.

In regards to ESTAS, you should always ensure these are in place before paying out significant amounts for your holiday as they can be rejected for no reason at all and insurance will NOT pay out for this. Current times scales for visa are 6-9mths minimum. Really not worth risking your entire holiday for the sake of $21

And why is that? The fact that many of these conspiracy theorists are been proven right over and over again? You want to sprout your shit go ahead, thank his many can think for themselves.

No, it's because verbal diarrhea appears to be an affliction that's hard to cure. Paper never refused ink, as they say.

'Thinking for yourself' is about the silliest and most contradictory definition of 'conspiracy theory' I've come across, and there have been some real doozies. Do you seriously consider yourself an original thinker?

Oh well, if "every other forum and message board is advising caution" then we should sit up and take notice - what do doctors and scientists know??

Anyone who takes advice from forums and message boards is not deserving of my respect.

As for "forcing it on healthy young people and pregnant women" - you do realise people had a choice.

Suzi888 · 04/04/2023 03:30

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 03/04/2023 18:04

In simple terms it doesn't stop you getting it but it does make it weaker and therefore if you still pass it on while vaccinated it is not as strong.

This is not true. However, having the vaccine makes you less likely to get COVID and therefore less likely to pass it on.

It failed spectacularly on both counts.

Suzi888 · 04/04/2023 03:31

“As for "forcing it on healthy young people and pregnant women" - you do realise people had a choice.” Not really. The message was clear at the time, get jabbed or lead a restricted life.

I just did an ESTA and it went through fine same day.

I am vaccinated but it was something I looked prior to booking as you need the bar code thing as proof. US requirements seem to be constantly shifting in regards to covid.

I have also got my travel insurance and just need to get my IDP and I'm ready to go! (Travel June - can't wait after all the covid years)

They used to be automatic and almost instant.. They no longer are but most come through within a few hours. Ours ranged from 3 hours to about 6/7 hours. However a friend's took a couple of days, not sure why.

So give it a few days. If not planning to return to the US then you can get it when you like. We did ours a week or two in advance as usually go to the US at least once a year so was trying to maximise the two years.
