How do I get fully vaccinated and is it still necessary for travel to US?

I had 1 vaccine in December 2021 and then didn’t get my second dose so technically not fully vaccinated although had Covid several times now.

I have just booked Florida and now realised I need to be fully vaccinated (I think).

question is if I get my next dose will I still be fully vaccinated even though it was over a year ago my first dose?

do doctors and nurses still give out the second dose?

As far as Im aware, unless you are vulnerable etc you cant actually get the vaccines on the NHS any more?

As the "non-vulnerable" are no longer eligable?

I believe it changed quite recently

No, that's not right, at least not in our area.
You can still get vaccinated if you have not had three doses.
Op, I got vaxed last week, for my second dose as also going to the US. I held out for as long as I could, but didn't think US would change their entry requirements and didn't want to risk not being able to go!
I didn't get vaxed as already had covid twice prior to vax being available, and since I didn't die either time, didn't think there was much point!

Beaverbridge · 03/04/2023 19:43

Wrong advice regarding estas. You should do it before you book flights etc.

All I see is lots of vaccinated individuals getting really awful covid and long covid. Those who aren’t vaccinated that I know are not. I’m vaccinated and feel like I was fooled. Politicians profiting from pharma deals.
Watched two doctors agreeing the other night that it shouldn’t have ever been given to pregnant women.
Pure herd mentality and it continues which really surprises me

My mum is 87, has dementia and is in a home. Last month, she and all the residents caught covid from a visitor. None of them were ill or had coughs. They just felt a bit off colour for a couple of days.

She and the others are extremely vulnerable but the vaccinations brought them all through it with ease. I understand that you feel sceptical, which us your right, but for many of us the vaccines have been life-saving.

Sorry to hijack, how far in advance? We're going in Aug and were going to do the ESTA application mid May.

you don’t have to get esta far in advance . You can get it on the same day as travel if you like .

I've got ESTAS twice and they've come back accepted within minutes, if not seconds. But a friend of mine, English name, didn't get hers back for several days. I'd definitely do it at least a couple of weeks before going.

sparkles18 · 03/04/2023 19:50

Do your ESTA now! If anything goes wrong and you need to go down the visa route, you will need plenty of time to organise it. Make sure you go to the official website https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/ where it costs $21.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 03/04/2023 18:04

In simple terms it doesn't stop you getting it but it does make it weaker and therefore if you still pass it on while vaccinated it is not as strong.

This is not true. However, having the vaccine makes you less likely to get COVID and therefore less likely to pass it on.

RUBBISH !

I honestly can't believe there are still vaccine deniers spouting their bullshit on the internet.

And why is that? The fact that many of these conspiracy theorists are been proven right over and over again? You want to sprout your shit go ahead, thank his many can think for themselves.

one in every 246 residents in Florida have died of Covid - a horrendous record.

Sorry to hijack, how far in advance? We're going in Aug and were going to do the ESTA application mid May.

I would not recommend this but I got a new passort and forgot to get another ESTA. The airline woudn't let me check in without the ESTA but I applied in the airport and was approved after about a (very nervewracking) hour.

frustratedtenant · 03/04/2023 20:25

But I think recommended timeframe is at least 3 days.

sunglassesonthetable · 03/04/2023 20:26

*I’m not sure why Mumsnet is the last bastion of the pro vaxxers but every other forum and message board is advising caution.

Just stop promoting it and forcing it on healthy young people and pregnant women. It is unethical and you know it.

The game’s up so just stop it.*

Oh that's convinced me 😁 " the last bastion of pro vaxxers"

sunglassesonthetable · 03/04/2023 20:27

What a load of nonsense- who cares what other randoms on "forums" are saying.

Boring old NHS will do me.

Zipettydooda · 03/04/2023 20:29

I’m going to the US next year and glad vaccination requirement is being stopped.Yes perhaps more necessary when disease was
more serious, but it’s now a complete nonsense, in my opinion.
I got COVID 4 times, my 90 year old mum got it twice and by then it was just a scratchy throat.

Do you have statistics or medical evidence to support your claims?

Squashedpotato · 03/04/2023 20:35

The US is dropping the vaccine entry requirements on May 11th

GreekDogRescue · 03/04/2023 20:35

@sunglassesonthetable Dont forget to have your monkey pox vax as well as the bird flu shot. You know it makes sense especially if the NHS is promoting it! #EnvyOfTheEorld #StaySafe 🐵 🐒

I've been in absolute agony since my last vax. My whole body constantly hurts and I've developed a variety of other issues too since I had it. Started a week after the Pfizer jab, ended up in A&E. Doctor confirmed that it was causing chest pains in a lot of people.
