How do I get fully vaccinated and is it still necessary for travel to US?

I had 1 vaccine in December 2021 and then didn’t get my second dose so technically not fully vaccinated although had Covid several times now.

I have just booked Florida and now realised I need to be fully vaccinated (I think).

question is if I get my next dose will I still be fully vaccinated even though it was over a year ago my first dose?

do doctors and nurses still give out the second dose?

The first/second dose offer will end soon, so you will need to attempt to book online or over the phone. https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/covid-19-services/covid-19-vaccination-services/book-covid-19-vaccination/

You may need to start again.

I get it OP
I got vaccinated because I was worried they'd deny access to mum if she was in hospital, care home etc.

now Florida - a great place to go, but they need to declare independence! Enjoy.

EmmaEmerald · 03/04/2023 18:08

Won't travel clinics be offering this now?

HisNibs · 03/04/2023 18:09

Whether or not you believe in the vaccines, the USA set their rules for entry. Don't like them, don't go. Some say you're daft to not be vaccinated, some say you are if you do. What is really daft is booking a several thousand pound holiday to Florida without checking the requirements.

I’d hold out a bit longer. USA are widely rumoured to drop the stupid mandate next month. The fact it’s gone on so long is farcical.

IGiveUpalready · 03/04/2023 18:15

If you are going to the US, dont forget to get an ESTA in plenty of time!

Kattya · 03/04/2023 18:17

It’s looking like May 11th is the date to be looking at for restrictions to lift

Really? Ooh, that is good news!

Soapnutty · 03/04/2023 18:39

All I see is lots of vaccinated individuals getting really awful covid and long covid. Those who aren’t vaccinated that I know are not.

Many got long covid pre vaccines. Studies suggest vaccines reduce risk of developing long covid by about 25%.

Agree with this.

If you plan on travelling anywhere outside your home country, the first thing you should be doing is checking entry requirements, not assuming you’ll be fine and waiting til the last minute to check what you need because you never know how long things may take to be processed.

My DH almost had to cancel a trip because he forgot his ESTA had expired.

Sorry to hijack, how far in advance? We're going in Aug and were going to do the ESTA application mid May.

The vaccine lessens the severity of the symptoms and reduces the likelihood of you needing hospital care.

Lessens it by a certain percentage of your current risk. So if your current risk is practically zero, it does practically nothing to your risk but does carry risks of its own apparently?

So it could actually increase your overall risk of harm?

No one knows with certainty whether they were low risk - my friend died with no underlying health conditions, fit and healthy before getting Covid. Unfortunately he didn’t get a chance to have his vaccine as he died the week the vaccine programme started.

Exactly.

'sheep' sounds very retro now😁

Tumbleweed101 · 03/04/2023 19:00

I just did an ESTA and it went through fine same day.

I am vaccinated but it was something I looked prior to booking as you need the bar code thing as proof. US requirements seem to be constantly shifting in regards to covid.

I have also got my travel insurance and just need to get my IDP and I'm ready to go! (Travel June - can't wait after all the covid years)

I reckon she was being sarcastic...I certainly hope so!

So it would appear. I wonder how they get around the supermarket now all the arrows have gone.

Coffeeko · 03/04/2023 17:12

I never wanted any vaccines and would delayed as long as I could. I got roped into my first dose almost two years after the pandemic started as my doctor pressured me and it felt like I would have no freedom unless I did. Costa coffee etc has said they were asking for proof. I had already had covid and survived. I wasn’t getting a vaccine which was so new unless I really really had to. And yes my freedom is my priority when my health had already survived.

getti g the vaccine doesn’t stop you catching or spreading covid so how was I not protecting my loved ones….?

3 years later and people still believe this garbage.

Oh you are going to love Florida....

changedmynam · 03/04/2023 19:06

As far as Im aware, unless you are vulnerable etc you cant actually get the vaccines on the NHS any more?

As the "non-vulnerable" are no longer eligable?

I believe it changed quite recently

mathanxiety · 03/04/2023 19:07

I honestly can't believe there are still vaccine deniers spouting their bullshit on the internet.

Dacadactyl · 03/04/2023 19:08

@Coffeeko if your freedom is your priority, then don't start jumping through hoops when they try to ban you from Costa or wherever. Stick to your guns.

Believe in the vaccinations as I follow the science and also married to a doctor who worked on Covid wards. Life is good.

Fidgety31 · 03/04/2023 19:11

@whoruntheworldgirls
you don’t have to get esta far in advance . You can get it on the same day as travel if you like .
