The daily fail have really gone after Thomas Cashman's partner in the paper today, painting her as a gangsters moll.

Do you think she really knew what he was up to? What's the feeling in Liverpool towards her?

AIBU to feel sorry for his kids and wonder what kind of life they will have now? his son and daughter are also victims in this horrible tragedy now. It's so sad.

@JackiePlace She doesn't want or need your pity, these people are as hard as nails.

What happens to KS now he's banged up for 42 years? Will she be protected because of "loyalty" and continue to have crim WAG status? Will Cashman's colleagues close ranks to protect her or will she be in fear of them (and the whole of Merseyside) as he's not around? Or will she lose all status? Will she be be warned to STFU and not grass? She must know a lot. How will it play out doing the school run? Can she walk across the playground without death by 1000 Mum stares? Can she do normal things like shopping? Will she wear the pink coat again? 🤣

Hopefully Merseyside Police will nick her for the money laundering.

@DdraigGoch The scale of use is just too huge for that to be properly effective. There aren’t enough officers to process the arrests. I agree however it should be made socially unacceptable and people should be reminded how their habits are fuelling the murders and exploitation of young children.

I wasn't suggesting arresting people, I know that's impractical. I was suggesting that employers (particularly in those "professions" where use is rampant, such as finance) randomly screen their staff and sack anyone who tests positive. I know employers who've sacked catering staff who tested positive for cannabis, so why shouldn't those living the high life in the Square Mile have the same scrutiny over their cocaine use?

user146539089 · 05/04/2023 18:02

I don’t disagree with that approach @DdraigGoch I’ve been speaking about the police targeting drugs lords versus foot soldiers and I assumed we were still on that topic.

Florenz · 05/04/2023 18:25

Target the foot soldiers with 50 year mandatory sentences unless they inform on those above them, then work your way up the chain with longer and longer sentences until you get to those at the top. All sentences to be served in solitary confinment, no exceptions, no luxuries, no free Playstation and food etc.

VeryApple · 05/04/2023 18:27

@Florenz no food? Good grief. Have a word with yourself.

Florenz · 05/04/2023 18:28

I care more about preventing children being shot by gang members than I do about gang members going hungry in prison. Even if they don't want to inform, a few days without food in prison would loosen their tongues.

So torture then, basically?

That never ends well, as well as being against various laws and conventions we've signed up to, I imagine this would have a range of unintended consequences you haven't considered, including but not limited to the offenders being more reckless and determined in their attempts to evade capture, presumably leading to the murder of more innocent people, not fewer.

Florenz · 05/04/2023 18:41

Might as well not punish them at all then, as they will probably shoot fewer children if they have nothing to fear at all if caught.

VeryApple · 05/04/2023 18:41

@Florenz you're describing torture.

VeryApple · 05/04/2023 18:42

@Florenz yes because the only two options are torture or criminals have free reign? Ridiculous mindset that does nothing to address real problems in real ways.

Oh grow up.

Just who is going to pay for these supermax jails where everyone is in solitary? And who is going to staff them?

The same people who pay for prisons and work in prisons today. Only it'd be far cheaper.

user146539089 · 05/04/2023 20:24

@Florenz do you realise that in most cases the foot soldiers are usually children themselves. They are victims of the drug lords as much as anyone else. They often come from troubled homes, are threatened and manipulated, usually by running up a ‘debt’ or being forced to take drugs and getting hooked. Look up ‘county lines’ if you don’t believe me. You would have these children treated like the worst criminals when they victims themselves. Basically you clearly don’t know a single thing about this and are speaking from a place of ignorance. You need to educate yourself.

No dear. You'd have to rebuild most of the country's prisons, plus a good few new ones. Most prison officers aren't sadistic enough to work in your prison dystopia, so you'd need to hire an awful lot of new people. There's no money in the prison service now, never mind for daft ideas like this.

Neededanewuserhandle · 05/04/2023 20:33

Also, many of the footsoldiers don't know who is at the top of the tree - they are kept at arm's length deliberately - controlled by fear and intimidation and given only minimal details of who is above them. The daft starvation policy likely wouldn't yield a lot as they don't know a lot.

They don't have to know who is at the top of the tree. They only have to know the person above them. They incriminate that person, get a greatly reduced sentence, in a "normal" prison, then that person gets the 50 year sentence unless they inform on the person above them. And so on and so on until you get to the "Mr Bigs". They have no-one to inform on so they get the 50 years.

How many people do you think would actually take the 50 years and not inform for a greatly reduced sentence?

How many prison officers do you need to manage a prison where prisoners are locked in solitary confinement in their cells permanently?

Are you 10 years old? Actually scrap that, my DD could have seen the holes in this logic at 10.
It wouldn't work.

I assumed that when you referred to the users you meant the end users.
