The daily fail have really gone after Thomas Cashman's partner in the paper today, painting her as a gangsters moll.

Do you think she really knew what he was up to? What's the feeling in Liverpool towards her?

AIBU to feel sorry for his kids and wonder what kind of life they will have now? his son and daughter are also victims in this horrible tragedy now. It's so sad.

Yep you're right. I live on the Merseyside/West Lancs border and there's loads of gangsters living the 'naice' areas where a lot of footballers also live. Their kids all go to the same private schools.

Same in Cheshire

I think you live not far from me, I'm also on the border.

And yes, footballers and gangster kids all go to the same schools.

Re Gerrard a lot of his connections are through family and childhood. The tentacles of organised crime are woven throughout Merseyside and normalised.

How bleak. If you live in the area, is it possible to distance yourself from these amoral and avaricious values.

VeryApple · 01/04/2023 17:37

@blueshoes absolutely!

Yes it is easy to keep away from them. You don't need to associate with them if you don't want to.

I'm aware of it. In some cases, it's very obvious. But I live a normal, law-abiding life as do hundreds of thousands of people in Merseyside.

Have you read the article? Steven Gerrard has his own associations with gangsters. He even provided a character reference in court for one. There's long been rumours in Liverpool about his wife's relationship with a well known gangster. And more recently he was pictured with his daughters boyfriends gangster father in a bar in Ibiza.

Yes I read the article. Lilly and Lexi were described as INFANTS. It wasn’t about their relationships.
The fact a 19yo girl has been dragged into this thread about a murderer is disgusting tbh.

I didn’t say you said he was a criminal. You linked an article from 2008 and then commented on Lilly’s relationship. She was 4 when the article you posted was written.

Of course she knew. Probably not the ins and outs of it, but she had a broad understanding of where her partner's money came from. And chose to look the other way.

A bit like Carmela Soprano.

Very easy to avoid them. For one, you can spot them a mile off.

The ones that live near me tend not to cause trouble on their own doorstep. They don't give a shit about the carnage they cause in other areas though.

I can't get my head around how more than one woman was interested in him. The woman he was having (or had had) a fling with went to the police shortly after he turned up at her house to get changed straight after he'd shot Olivia. I wonder if Kayleanne knew about her?

I know it’s not on the same scale, but the number of posts on here from women telling stories about being with absolute using scumbags, often seeing other women too, then going on to have multiple kids with them is eye watering. Accepting shit time and time again. Some people just don’t seem capable of walking away from scumbags (and I don’t mean those who are subject to DA snd coercive control).

she knew what he was, no doubt. She had kids with him. She put their needs over their DCs needs because she didn’t accept the harm he was doing - rather she accepted it as part of life, or the life she wanted. She went to court as if she was kylie Jenner - was probably a local “celebrity “. As someone said up thread - she was a cog in the wheel. No sympathy.

Some women certainly have a low benchmark, or feel they can't leave bad relationships.

But some women get involved for the same reason as the men..

Money and status. They have the same level of greed as they men involved.

Once you get to a certain level, the sums of money involved for an hour or two of 'work' a day is incredible. Insane amounts of money and a very comfortable lifestyle (if you ignore the very obvious risks).

A lot of people view drug dealers as someone like Super Hans off peep show, living in a council flat, with a chaotic life.

Sure, down the ladder, this exists. But the higher you go, the more appealing it is.

Cashman was a middle of the road weed dealer. Yet he earned more than the prime minister.

Criminals towards the top of the food chain keep low profiles. They buy respectability by sending their dc to private schools. These schools know who they’re dealing with a turn a blind eye. They have very tight friendship groups but try to keep on good terms with everyone. They can’t resist nice cars, designer clothes and frequent holidays to Dubai. They launder their dirty money through bars, hotels and beauty shops.

Whichnumbers · 01/04/2023 18:43

May I ask what Merseyside Police Force are doing to apprehend these crime syndicates that operate in plain sight. I am surprised that in this day and age where so many people who live in Liverpool are well aware of these organised criminal gangs operating at great risk and intimdation to the general public but the police have no balls to bring them to book

Do you really not realise that life isn't that simple? To say that the police have no balls to bring them to book is naive

Sadly, and im not saying this as a slight on the police but police are involved at some level as they are groomed and bought off, then they can't escape from these people with their life intact. If the police take out the foot soldiers then they will be replaced swiftly by others wanting to take their position and for anyone else on the chain it'll be the same. It's an intricate crime with many people involved and many people groomed into the positions they are in.

user146539089 · 01/04/2023 18:49

I disagree @Whichnumbers It is difficult to get people to come forward from the community but the police could use other powers to take these criminals down, but don’t use them to the full effect.

Why isn't this a slight on the police? If police members are groomed and bought off, these are bad apples. Why aren't they being rooted out and kicked out of the force. What twisted values is it to sympathise with police who are corrupt. The fact they are ensnared by crime gangs is neither here nor there. That is the price for dancing with the devil.

user146539089 · 01/04/2023 18:56

The suggestion that Merseyside Police is full of corrupt officers is absolute bullshit. I am the first one to criticise them and there are bad apples everywhere but their failings are due more to incompetence and complacency than corruption.

blueshoes · 01/04/2023 19:18

I did not say 'full of' corrupt officers. Let's not put words in my mouth to discredit what I said. Even if it is one or two 'bad apple' corrupt officers, they have absolutely no business being in the police force and I fail to understand anyone who would excuse that behaviour because they were apparently 'groomed' into the role.

Incompetence is universal, yes, they need to go too. What is senior management doing about this. Has everyone been groomed to accept incompetence in the police force?

There’s infinitely more incompetence than corruption. There are powers they could use to circumvent the no grass culture, which they don’t. Unless you have experience of the city I’m not sure you could fully understand the problems.

It's all very well wanting the high life but work honestly for it.
It's very short lived because now he's in prison and he won't be driving any flash cars anytimesoon. Was it worth it in the grand scheme of things.
Its a very short term fix Living the high life dishonestly.
If he wanted the high life start a legal profitable business like other people do.

It's only then you can truly relax and enjoy your money.

No I cannot say I understand. I certainly don't live in the area but from where I am, Liverpool is looking sleazy and gang-ridden with strategically incompetent police force. Not unlike American cities in the 1920s. The unfortunate residents who have to live cheek by jowl with such filth, spotting it but keeping clear, occasionally getting gunned down by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

This is unfortunate as before this trial, I saw Liverpool as lively and vibrant. The locals should rightly be up in arms at police incompetence.
