How many miles does your car have?

And how long do you think it'll last?

How many is too many! I've never had a car with particularly high mileage but I often see cars being sold with 150k plus miles ( obviously these are cheap cars ) but do they really have any life left in them?

112k. Car is 17 years old, 3 previous owners.
My (luckily) mechanic brother has had it over the weekend to replace the clutch, break pads and wheel bearing. Cost me £170 for repairs. If I had to take it to a garage I would’ve been over £1k in repairs. I hope it lasts at least another year!

kitsuneghost · 26/03/2023 20:07

Over 200k with no problems

Howtostart · 26/03/2023 20:07

63 plate I've had it two years .. bought it at 37k now 75k.. the downside of v rural living

poshme · 26/03/2023 20:09

Diesel golf, 16 years old. 187,000 and still going...

Cantseethewindows · 26/03/2023 20:10

179500 miles, 08 diesel Audi. We've had it 4 years now, not sure what the mileage was when we bought it, I think 120000. We paid £2500. We've had to put a fair bit towards repairs and services, but it's the type of car that will just keep going if you look after it. I'm hoping it'll last at least another 5 years.

Teapleasemilknosugar · 26/03/2023 20:15

2009 Golf GTI, 40k. Got it second hand from my in-laws in 2021 and it only had 15k on it! Loads of miles left hopefully 🤞

Linnty · 26/03/2023 20:19

08 plate landrover with over 193k on the clock, expect it to last for years yet. We do look after it.

MordredsOrrery · 26/03/2023 20:21

145k, 10 plate. Drives really well. I keep up with servicing, etc, and fully expect it to reach 200k without major issues. It was £3k and 70k miles when I bought it 6 years ago.

h311o · 26/03/2023 20:23

2016 plate, less than 20k. Now I hardly drive anywhere I’m expecting to last a very long time.

Asdf12345 · 26/03/2023 20:25

Ours have about 220, 190-200, 140.

Modern stuff just seems to go on until the electrics die.

S72 · 26/03/2023 20:26

Just over 70k. 12 years old. I hope it will do many many more if I keep looking after it. I hate driving new cars so I aim to keep this one as long as possible

HelpIcantfindaname · 26/03/2023 20:26

Mine had just under 30k miles at 9 years old. Just sold it last week & was very pleased with the good price I got. It was low milage for the age of the car.
I only sold it cos I'm getting a motobility car.

Meandfour · 26/03/2023 20:27

Mine has 19k, 4 years old. Had 1 owner before me and I got it 3 years old with only 7k on it.

DHs has around 60k on it, 6 years old. He got it 2 years old.

His van has about 135k on it and still runs fine. It’s 8 years old.

Think the most we’ve ever bought a car with is around 50k. Wouldn’t go any higher really. Sold my last car with 72k on and we’d had it 3 years. Would’ve kept it longer but needed a 7 seater.

MymateDave · 26/03/2023 20:30

09 diesel fiesta just over 130k. Iv had the car 9 months, it’s been really well looked after over the years. It’s my 1st car after passing my test. I’m hoping it will continue problem free.

emmathedilemma · 26/03/2023 20:39

Mine has just under 30k on it at 5yrs old so expect it to last a while yet! My previous cars I traded in with 85-90k on them when the minor works needed to pass the MOT were starting to mount up and it was only a matter of time before they needed works doing that cost more than they were worth……although second hand cars are now worth a lot more than they were then! I think my car now is probably worth almost much as I bought it for new!

Carsarelife · 26/03/2023 20:42

141k Ford
79k Mini

Both going strong. Both diesel cars so expect 200k miles from each

EnthENd · 26/03/2023 20:43

42,000 miles on an 04 plate. Neither me nor the previous owner drove much.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 26/03/2023 20:44

About 76k I think. 10 year old qashqai.

hoping to keep it until 100-150k. Fingers crossed!

StuartBroadshairband · 26/03/2023 20:45

4000 and had it about six weeks.

PastaLaVistaBabee · 26/03/2023 20:46

Our petrol car, Japanese and v reliable, has 170k on the clock and still in great condition. Hoping it will last to well over 200k. I do 45k a year and have just invested in a second car (as with big family it helps to have 2 and we've finally caved!) - a second hand diesel which has done 50k and I'm expecting it to get to 300k :)

DashboardConfessional · 26/03/2023 20:48

15k on the hybrid and 95k on the 10 year old diesel Mini. The Mini does about 3k a year so should last.

Badleg85 · 26/03/2023 20:49

16 plate and 53,000 miles.

When I was younger I'd been told not to consider a car with over 60,000 miles when buying but I work in a garage now and see that well looked after cars can easily do over 100,000. So hoping to make my car last a long time

Whenisitsummer · 26/03/2023 20:51

8k , approx 18 months old. Expect it has plenty of life in it yet.

BatFaceOwl · 26/03/2023 20:51

It's 18 months old and bought from new - 11,000 on the clock. Would like to swap it at 3 years but will see

Chickpea17 · 26/03/2023 20:53

4 year old 31k
