How many miles does your car have?

And how long do you think it'll last?

How many is too many! I've never had a car with particularly high mileage but I often see cars being sold with 150k plus miles ( obviously these are cheap cars ) but do they really have any life left in them?

13k, expect it to last at least 9 years.

151k 10 year old diesel. Expect it to go 200k+. Will probably be scrapped not because it's uneconomical but just out of fashion.

Out of fashion? It’s a car, not a pair of shoes.

If it runs fine and does the job I’d keep it, believe me when I say no one cares what car you drive, and trying to look ‘flash’ with something fancy usually looks tacky.

Badger1970 · 26/03/2023 21:59

19k, 2 years old. One year left on the lease.

I change every 3 years, that just about matches my boredom threshold.

DrWhoNowww · 26/03/2023 22:00

48k at 8 years old - bought in December at 42k.

152k at 9 years old - bought it at 4 years old on 60k

They’re both diesel so expect them to keep chugging away forever really as long as they’re looked after - suspect the electrics might kill the younger one sooner than I like though.

I’d rather buy something 40-60k mileage at 6 years old than something that’s done 20k at the same age. In my experience people who drive further look after their cars more - if it only does 100 miles a week people don’t seem to view maintenance as much of an investment as the person doing 1000 miles.

DPs 2006 car has 112k miles. My car 2006 210k miles. My car was going great until the turbo blew a couple of weeks ago. 😬 now waiting on DP to have some time to fix it. 😒 (if it's anything like the wait time on DPs car, it could be 18months before it's sorted 😫🤷🏼‍♀️)
On any well maintained car, the mileage shouldn't matter.

Rockbird · 26/03/2023 22:12

10yo car with 90k on the clock. Usually a nice car but a bit of a boneshaker at the moment as he needs to go into the garage to have some work done. Putting it off because it'll probably be expensive and we need the car at the mo.

HoneyBeen · 26/03/2023 22:12

4479 miles and three years old. It will last until August when I replace it with a new one.

Lysianthus · 26/03/2023 22:17

116k, 10 yr old fiesta, hoping it has some more life in it.

Cabella · 26/03/2023 22:25

@Kenworthington

Great user name ! Are you a John Shuttleworth fan? x

handsoffate · 26/03/2023 22:26

90k, and I expect it to be good up to at least 250.

lookeelikee · 26/03/2023 22:28

176k 30 years old, just failed MOT
118k 20 years old still going

CheeseMcKnees · 26/03/2023 22:30

140000 and 60000. Diesel engines go on forever.

Both good quality cars, German engineering.

Hotvimto3 · 26/03/2023 22:31

22k 4 years old. I hope to have it for at least 7 years.

LifeIsHardAlways · 26/03/2023 22:31

30k, 3yrs old and had it from new. My parents had an Audi that did over 250k!

EigerMum · 26/03/2023 22:32

63k 7.5yo we are selling it as it’s starting to wear, and 14k 4.5yo station car

roughoption · 26/03/2023 22:32

32k currently (2014 plate) I got it in 2019 when it had 13k miles. I hope it lasts a long time

LBOCS2 · 26/03/2023 22:33

98500, 13yo Volvo. It's an absolute workhorse - I wanted to get it well past 100k but we're having to change car because of the ULEZ expansion.

Keeween · 26/03/2023 22:36

2007 Mitsubishi L200 - 142k, it’ll go on a good while longer yet, I’ll keep it til it dies
2019 Toyota Hilux - 40k, it’ll live longer than me, probably
2017 Volvo XC90 - 54k, again, invincible 😅

Eyesopenwideawake · 26/03/2023 22:37

My little pocket rocket A3 TDI has 365,000km on the clock, it's 22yrs old. The paintwork is shabby, the interior is tatty (that's being polite!) but the engine is perfect and I'll keep enjoying it until it falls apart!

TalliskerMcSpeculate · 26/03/2023 22:43
  1. I'm hoping it's got quite a bit of life left in it 😁
TheFormidableMrsC · 26/03/2023 22:45

My car is 10 years old and has 68k on the clock. I got it at around 43k five years ago and do around 5k a year. I'm hoping it lasts as I can't afford another one!

PolkaDotMankini · 26/03/2023 22:53

60 - I got it last week! I'm hoping it will last for a good while yet.

Atnilpoe · 26/03/2023 23:01

10 year old diesel, 140k miles on the clock. Just sailed through it’s MOT. I absolutely love it, and I’m hoping I can keep it going to 200k - which is about 3 years for me these days. Should have a bit a room in the budget by then and hoping to go electric at that point! Will probably run this one as long as I can thought.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 26/03/2023 23:04

100,000, 10 years old. It drives like a dream but has a few wiring faults that will cost a fortune to sort out (needs a main dealer and hours of investigation to figure it out).

It’s the a/c and fans. We’ve lived with it for a couple of years but we’re planning a trip around Europe this summer driving between locations. We really could do with a fully functional car so we’re looking to replace it but used cars are unbelievably expensive!

NailsForBreakfastTacksForSnacks · 26/03/2023 23:05

One of them, not a clue. Clock reads 8,000 realistically that’s been round once so 108k,000(old clock) and that’s assuming it’s the original clock in her as they were often replaced. She’ll last for as long as she’s found a pair of mugs (currently DH and I) to lavish time and money on her I suspect. She is 35 though.

my car is on 122,000. Should last the same again as it’s an older Land Rover that’s been very well looked after. That one is going though as I’ve got a new electric car coming next month.

dh’s is about 25,000. It’s another one that’s a bit of a rarity despite only being a few years old so one that has money spent on. Can’t see him parting with it willingly so hopefully will last him many years.
