Led by donkeys - enough is enough

Bloody hell, I’ve just watched the new “led by donkeys” video. People like Matt Hancock wanting to work for a fake consultancy firm for obscene amounts of cash.

I cannot tell You how angry MPs make me right now.

I have a relative that is an NHS dr on £14 an hour. She pays for her own travel and parking. All her study… she pays for. She is so busy she sometimes doesn’t eat.

then these idiots earn loads, and then claim back loads of expenses. Disgusting in my opinion. They then get second jobs that pay them £10k a day. Without even checking if company is real first.

In my opinion an mp should only take a second job if it’s in the nhs, army etc or a volunteer job for a registered charity. That’s it. No other reason.

I can’t even process this. I’ve had enough. What on earth can we do to change this? And yes I’ll not be voting Tory at the next election. They are a bunch of posh rich boys that want to just look after themselves. Politics should be more diverse. what on earth can we do?

'Except they never respond to the original posts, just ‘but Labour did this .. ‘. Classic whataboutery and deflection'

On a thread that The Nasty Evil Tories charge for various roles it is not 'deflection' to say Labour also charge for various appearances and roles. Is it? It's called context.

Are you missing the bit about them never ever responding to the original point ?

Vote labour!
Vote for a party that's credible - not perfect but a whole lot better than the current shit show

I most certainly will

emmylousings · 26/03/2023 11:45

Theres no way a 2 party system can represent us or addreas the complex issues we face.
We need proportional representation (yes I know it's not a silver bullet)
Move parliament to a new build in Birmingham/ milton Keynes. None fancy building with basic flats for mps etc to stay in.
Abolish house of lords. Its currently the biggest legislature outside of China. Over 650 people, who get paid for just turning up (but don't have to)
Drastically trim Royal family list (I.e taxpayers subsidising them) and monarch should pay tax.
Some people might be thinking 'how do these things help?'.
I believe it's required for a complete transformation of our political culture, which like others, I'm really worried about and its beyond party politics.

Why would I be joking?

I honestly thought you were joking. That is what junior doctors are paid - it’s been all over the news recently.

emmylousings · 26/03/2023 11:45

Defo no second jobs for MPs ever.

allibaby · 26/03/2023 11:46

jgw1 · 26/03/2023 11:42

Is it better to try and look clever when you post or to try and look stupid?

It's better to be graceful and accept when someone admitted they were wrong rather than try to show off on a forum full of faceless strangers.

Matildapower · 26/03/2023 11:46

And I have no horse in this race as I live in a constituency that can’t vote for the main parties.

jgw1 · 26/03/2023 11:47

Rhondaa · 26/03/2023 11:43

'Anyone who was stupid enough to vote for the tories in 2019 knew exactly what they were voting for and are responsible for the shitshow we have now.'

Well thank God so many of us did or we'd have had that ragtag bunch of halfwits trying to steer us through a global crisis.

Are you refering to ragtag bunch of halfwits in the Led by Donkeys video who can't spot a scam and who brought in laws that they then broke @Janiie

Any chance while you are here you could explain why you think it accceptable for a 56 year old to have a birthday party but not millions of children?

emmylousings · 26/03/2023 11:48

80k is more than double the average salary. People should want to do it for service, at least a few terms. Were always being told that nursing and teaching are 'vocations' , to help justify crap wages. Being an MP should be a vocation, not a pig's trough.

The original point being some Conservatives were quoting their fees for consultations. Surely it is relevant to respond to the 'original point' that so do Labour and post links as evidence?!

I'm glad you are accepting that the OP never suggested their relative was a student.

@emmylousings Great post from you

User135644 · 26/03/2023 11:50

Enough is enough.

Is it? A lot of the English still love their Tories and will take their stockholm syndrome inflicted selves to the voting booth next year.

twitterexile · 26/03/2023 11:53

blubberball · 26/03/2023 08:22

I'd never vote Tory in my life. Scum

Insightful comment there.

LakeTiticaca · 26/03/2023 08:48

You are very naive if you think only tory MPs have second jobs, claim huge expenses, have second homes etc. They all do, yes even labour!!
Perhaps it is time for a new broom to sweep clean but who do you think is capable of running the country? Have a look back at the last Labour government.

The cash for honours, cronyism, illegal war, flogging off our gold reserves, raided our pension pots.
It wasn't quite the utopia people seem to think it was 😉

But when Labour have a leader who's vaguely left wing (Ed Milliband or Kinnock let alone Corbyn) the media destroy them. It's either Tories or Tory-lite, so you're getting many of the same policies and mentalities.

If people really wanted change they'd have voted Labour in 2015 or 2019 and not the Etonian Cameron or Johnson.

2pence · 26/03/2023 11:55

I wonder if we'll ever move to a truly democratic system of government. All things put to public vote by digital methods with a Civil Service in place to respond.

Perhaps not soon, there are too many people who are digitally illiterate for it to be a fair system currently and it's open to cyber abuse similar to postal voting coercion.

Our current political system no longer serves though. This is a Labour thing, that is a Tory thing, this is Green, when all the parties have good and bad ideas and it would be nice just to vote on the things that will make a difference to your life without leaning left, right or centre.

User135644 · 26/03/2023 11:55

Cakeandcardio · 26/03/2023 09:12

It's clear those who voted Tory last time are to blame though? The rest us of already knew what they were like. We aren't surprised by this behaviour at all.

They wanted their Brexit above all else. They'd have voted for the devil himself.

Rhondaa · 26/03/2023 11:56

'80k is more than double the average salary'

Yes and that is at least what Consultants in the nhs earn (without their lucrative private stuff on the side) I'm not sure why there's this waaah'ing over junior Drs pay. Every job has a starting salary.

@Janiie do you think it would be acceptable for junior doctors to drink and party at work after all they are not paid very much?

kirinm · 26/03/2023 11:58

@jgw1 I'm not a doctor and don't work for the NHS but even I worked out that the OP's relative was a junior doctor.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/03/2023 11:58

The names involved are no surprise - though even Graham Brady being among them is disappointing - but to anyone with sense I'd have thought the name of the "organisation" behind this would be enough of a red flag

Unfortunately they don't have enough sense even for that; the chance of more money grubbing speaks louder and so we get yet another scandal

BCfan · 26/03/2023 11:59

Thisisvenus · 26/03/2023 08:19

Besides I don’t think it is helpful to blame those that voted Tory last time. It does not help the future at all. Not does it do anything but anger people that could possibly vote for something else.

its like telling a kid that fell over and broke their arm that it’s their own fault.

not sure anyone could have predicted Covid, parties, I’m a celeb, snogging, Boris lying to this extent, rishi getting in, etc. it’s a soap opera!

Yep. They could have been predicted easily - Boris Johnson and his cronies always made their attitude and values clear, you just voted for them because it suited you and now it doesn't.

Rhondaa · 26/03/2023 12:00

jgw1 · 26/03/2023 11:57

@Janiie do you think it would be acceptable for junior doctors to drink and party at work after all they are not paid very much?

Well of course it is acceptable for nhs staff to eat and drink at work. That is the norm in a workplace.

A party however usually involves loud music, dancing and a bit of raucous fun. I'm sorry you've never experienced this and think a party is a soggy sandwich in a staff area Flowers.

Matildapower · 26/03/2023 12:02

What’s your opinion on the lockdown parties then @Janiie . You keep ignoring the questions on this.
