Led by donkeys - enough is enough

Thisisvenus · 25/03/2023 21:43

Bloody hell, I’ve just watched the new “led by donkeys” video. People like Matt Hancock wanting to work for a fake consultancy firm for obscene amounts of cash.

I cannot tell You how angry MPs make me right now.

I have a relative that is an NHS dr on £14 an hour. She pays for her own travel and parking. All her study… she pays for. She is so busy she sometimes doesn’t eat.

then these idiots earn loads, and then claim back loads of expenses. Disgusting in my opinion. They then get second jobs that pay them £10k a day. Without even checking if company is real first.

In my opinion an mp should only take a second job if it’s in the nhs, army etc or a volunteer job for a registered charity. That’s it. No other reason.

I can’t even process this. I’ve had enough. What on earth can we do to change this? And yes I’ll not be voting Tory at the next election. They are a bunch of posh rich boys that want to just look after themselves. Politics should be more diverse. what on earth can we do?

'80k is more than double the average salary'

Yes and that is at least what Consultants in the nhs earn (without their lucrative private stuff on the side) I'm not sure why there's this waaah'ing over junior Drs pay. Every job has a starting salary.

You have spent a lot of time on MN knocking the NHS for a long time, so I'm afraid your points on this are rather irrelevant.

coffeecookie · 26/03/2023 12:05

You voted Tory, you're part of the problem.

This is your fault.

Rhondaa · 26/03/2023 12:08

'You have spent a lot of time on MN knocking the NHS for a long time, so I'm afraid your points on this are rather irrelevant.'

Rousette how rude. I don't think I'd ever say your points are irrelevant even if I always disagree with you.

I think the nhs is great. But we need to stop going on about junior Drs pay. It is a starting salary, the beginning of a road to massive salaries.

I'm glad you are accepting that the OP never suggested their relative was a student.

I never did say the OP suggested to their relative was a student.
I said the way one of her posts was written made it sound that way.

Hey if showing off and acting clever on an internet forum boosts your self esteem I'm all for supporting you in that.😁

Iwannabeacrocodilehunter · 26/03/2023 12:16

I’m afraid that our country is divided into those who vote Conservative and those who vote Labour…with a sprinkling of Lib Dem voters.

Unfortunately, all of the main parties are the same and will act in the interests of the lobbyists.

When the rules about lobbying change, we’ll get a better government who genuinely acts in the best interests of the people (as well as themselves).

Until then, I try to vote for independents who share my views.

Ah but you're not allowed to say anything negative about doctors & nurses on Mumsnet.

To be fair I do think £14 an hour is crap but although some on here don't think it should be relevant we do have to take into account incentives for weekend and night pay and that can work out quite lucrative.
We also get decent annual leave compared to some.
We have to remember that money has to come from somewhere.

As you say every profession has a starting salary and at least junior doctors can have a nice well paid lucrative career to aim towards.

@jgw1 I'm not a doctor and don't work for the NHS but even I worked out that the OP's relative was a junior doctor.

Good for you, what do you want a medal?🏅

Nobody's points are irrelevant just because you don't agree with them.

Insightful comment there.

Sadly, for many in the UK, that would* be much-needed* insight 😞

Sorry you find it rude, but bear in mind you were insisting only a day or two ago that all NHS workers were inundated with food and drink and hanging about together witout social distancing in all the staff rooms in the country... do excuse me for not taking your latest NHS points very seriously.

Thisisvenus · 26/03/2023 12:26

I think a dr on Twitter summed it up nicely:

Doctors are asking for £19 and hour for their day job.

Ex-health sec Matt Hancock is asking for £1500 an hour for a second job.

But, of course, we are the "greedy ones”

MPs probably don't need to be paid more to attract decent people

Most people are decent and have more nouse than the average politician and work for a lot less

It's probably - the way everything is down to rhetoric coupled with a self awareness of their own weaknesses that keep most people out of politics

I could find millions of people that want to play premier league football, hundreds of millions of people globally who would do it. Many would do it for £10 an hour or less, some would do it for free. But guess what, they wouldn't be the best players, they might also take on 2nd jobs, they might take on 3rd ones, they might miss training etc. If you want the best then you have to pay for it.

MPs don't earn that much. They earn less than head teachers, less than 27 year old accountants in London, less than 26 year old lawyers in London, less than self employed gas engineers in the South East. Despite earning less they have no private life and we trash them frequently. Out expectations realistic?

Frankly I don't want an average MP. I want super clever, hard working, empathetic, perceptive, remarkable MPs. If that means doubling or trebling their salaries then do it. I want an NHS that works, policeman than are allowed to lock up criminals and courts that function. The UK is on its arse and we have a bunch of useless jokers in parliament. We pay comparative peanuts and we have monkeys.

Thisisvenus · 26/03/2023 12:27

I want to do something about this. What is it I can do realistically?

i will write to my MP. I will vote for labour at the election. What else?

During lockdown we were inundated with food and drink (not alcohol) donated by fast food places and other companies. We were also gifted lots of free toiletries.

I know people don't really want to hear this but we also didn't take much notice of social distancing at work simply because a lot of the times it was just impractical.

Canvass for the next elections, write a petition against things you have an issue with.

I'm guessing you're not going to consider the become a councillor or become an MP options.

And I have read plenty of posts saying directly opposite to that. As far as social distancing.

Thisisvenus · 26/03/2023 12:33

@Dorisbonson compared to other mp salaries in other countries we are not too bad.

I personally think we should do more to attract more “normal” people to politics.

im pretty sure as a life science graduate, mum of three that has managed to not snog a co-worker in my work place behind my husbands back, I’m more ethical and more intelligent than Matt Hancock will ever be.

I think people tried to social distance to begin with but to be honest it just fell by the wayside as it just wasn't practical.
It also didn't help they came up with some ridiculous rule that made it so office staff were not social distancing or having to wear a mask which was unhelpful.

Thisisvenus · 26/03/2023 12:34

@goodchat I don’t think me becoming an mp is at all realistic. It’s an old boys club sadly. I live in the south east in a traditional Tory town.

Well of course it is acceptable for nhs staff to eat and drink at work. That is the norm in a workplace.

A party however usually involves loud music, dancing and a bit of raucous fun. I'm sorry you've never experienced this and think a party is a soggy sandwich in a staff area Flowers.

@Janiie you think it is acceptable for alcohol to be drunk at work and that it is normal?

I'm sorry if in my original question I was not clear that I meant alcoholic drinks. I had assumed the meaning was obvious.
