Led by donkeys - enough is enough

Bloody hell, I’ve just watched the new “led by donkeys” video. People like Matt Hancock wanting to work for a fake consultancy firm for obscene amounts of cash.

I cannot tell You how angry MPs make me right now.

I have a relative that is an NHS dr on £14 an hour. She pays for her own travel and parking. All her study… she pays for. She is so busy she sometimes doesn’t eat.

then these idiots earn loads, and then claim back loads of expenses. Disgusting in my opinion. They then get second jobs that pay them £10k a day. Without even checking if company is real first.

In my opinion an mp should only take a second job if it’s in the nhs, army etc or a volunteer job for a registered charity. That’s it. No other reason.

I can’t even process this. I’ve had enough. What on earth can we do to change this? And yes I’ll not be voting Tory at the next election. They are a bunch of posh rich boys that want to just look after themselves. Politics should be more diverse. what on earth can we do?

Let's hope the vile daily mail and mail on sunday (they don't deserve capital letters) lose the current case against them. They and the other tory rags are partly to blame for this appalling government and its previous incarnations. johnson (doesn't deserve a capital letter), at the beginning of covid, bragged about how many hands he'd shaken. Witless, clueless, shameless, humourless (yes, blundering buffoonery is tiring after a minute or so) and totally without a moral compass. Unfit for public service.

Unless they really make some howlers in the next year I really think Labour are in with a good chance in the next election.

Crikeyalmighty · 27/03/2023 19:43

@wellstopdoingitthen is this the somerton &frome MP?!

Does anyone actually think the labour party stand as socialists? That is not their bag. They are centre left neoliberals. Starmer and Rishi are quite similar in most policies, both are a lot like Blair tbh. No party is actually on the right, maybe ukip, the current bunch are trying to look a little but further right with stop the boats to make sure they don't lose their base. Corruption is rife but not just tories.

I guess you have paid much attention to the legislation on rights to protest and legal migration that the government has introduced recently.
If they are not the policies of a extremely right wing government then I am Nadine.

Keir doesn't even want to renationalise most utilities! Far from socialist.

There are sound reasons for that... it would cost trillions, which we do not have....

BUT what Labour do want to do is improve regulation on privatised companies to make them work for us more and business less.

e.g Why is Ofgem giving us, the consumer, the most expensive energy in the World? and hence business even bigger profits.

I do not understand why Starmer accepted a Knighthood, he was a very good DPP but thats it, he was paid to be a good DPP, the pension arrangements were what was agreed by the Tories in his employment contract in 2013 and have been in for all the DDP's since.

None issue that, just shit stirring by the Tories.. all that they are good at now... certainly not running the NHS, which is forecast to have 350k vacancies in the next few years.

No, london/essex

Crikeyalmighty · 27/03/2023 19:53

@Sallybates ha, I think we will find Brexit has been done but it was never doable in the Tory fantasyland of bringing in vast investment and full autonomy because very few international companies want to invest here unless there is a big enough purely British market. The costs and beauracracy now to export are too complicated. So there's lots of little franchises to clean your oven or repair your car screen window etc but no big new pharmas or manufacturing plants that need more than a British market etc. the government are a disgrace, they have trashed vast swathes of economy and investment purely for a backward thinking ideology and to appeal to those who see things through nostalgic rose tinted glasses.

Crikeyalmighty · 27/03/2023 19:54

@wellstopdoingitthen ah Francoise!

It's true that on recent polls Labour would win, but that's on mid term numbers and I still think it's a heck of a majority to overcome. The one thing Tories really come together on is the appearance of harmony and capability if their own positions are threatened, and I'd expect nothing different next time

After the last electoral wipeout Starmer's main appeal was not being Corbyn - who'd they never have won with - but whether it'll be enough to carry them over the line in a future election remains to be seen

Given that polling shows up to about twice as many people saying they will vote Labour than Tory I think you are being a little pessimistic.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/03/2023 20:41

You could well be right, jgw1, but time will tell

Personally I'm another of those who's now politically homeless, and the blasted poll cards for 4 May have just come through the door Hmm

What could I be right about?
What the polls currently say about how people say they will vote? How could one be wrong about that?

Lovely13 · 27/03/2023 21:39

I’ve always wondered how they have so much time on their hands to have inappropriate affairs! When working and with kids, barely had time to open post or visit dentist etc. Must be a less onerous job for some of those jobsworth types.

MannyTeddy · 27/03/2023 21:48

I think whoever gets given a job as the education minister or health minister, they should have to do volunteer work in that setting from the ground up, over 3 months, from cleaners, porters, admin, nurses, doctors, working their hours, conditions, paying out everything they pay for.
Then you can be considered for the job.
It can be done over the summer holidays, when all PMs go on holiday! 🙄

AmberMcAmber · 27/03/2023 22:26

Start the revolution!! Be the change you want to see… get things moving in the local elections and help promote the causes that you are passionate about and see which MP is savvy enough to pick up on these & vote for them
if everyone did something like this then we might end up with some competent people in parliament

It's more like telling a kid not to jump from the top of a tree because they'll hurt themselves and then watching as the kid not only jumps from top of the tree but grabs every other child and pulls them out as they plumet towards earth.

Politicians are simply a reflection of the people who vote for them and of wider society in general.

Exactly this. Tory voters have brought us to this place! All of you! Buyer’s remorse is a bit late for the rest of us you’ve fucked over with your poor choice.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/03/2023 22:58

It wouldn't be wrong at the moment - as you mentioned, the polls say what they say

But people change their minds ...

notjaneausten · 27/03/2023 23:19

It makes no difference who you vote for, the government get in. All tarred with the same brush.

A NHS dr. On £14 an hour. Oh please.

Emotionalstorm · 28/03/2023 02:36

Maybe if we paid our MPs better they wouldn't have to resort to desperate measures like this for cash.

Greed plain and simple

Its a scandal isn't it.
And yet the government won't give doctors or any other public servants a proper pay rise.

The calibre of politicians is so bad, it re unforces the view that they are in politics because they can’t do anything else. Matt ‘the idiot’ Hancock, Gavin ‘the moron’ Williamson, Angela ‘oi scum’ Rayner, Rishi ‘the android’ Sunak, Keir ‘the perpetually anguished’ Starmer, Rachel ‘uh,uh,eh, Reeves. The rest are not even good at being crap, so not worth mentioning.

keir was the chief public prosecutor. Sunak had quite a senior job at Goldman sachs. Clearly at least some MPs could do something else.

travellinglighter · 28/03/2023 07:01

Just for those saying that no NHS doctors get paid £14 an hour, a quick google will show that the starting wage can be as low as£29384. Divide by 52 weeks and 39 hours gives a wage of £14.48 an hour.

In comparison. Apprentices in my company who were paid for completing their apprenticeship get £32000 a year, standby alllowance and overtime and it isn’t unusual for them to earn £40k.
