Led by donkeys - enough is enough

Bloody hell, I’ve just watched the new “led by donkeys” video. People like Matt Hancock wanting to work for a fake consultancy firm for obscene amounts of cash.

I cannot tell You how angry MPs make me right now.

I have a relative that is an NHS dr on £14 an hour. She pays for her own travel and parking. All her study… she pays for. She is so busy she sometimes doesn’t eat.

then these idiots earn loads, and then claim back loads of expenses. Disgusting in my opinion. They then get second jobs that pay them £10k a day. Without even checking if company is real first.

In my opinion an mp should only take a second job if it’s in the nhs, army etc or a volunteer job for a registered charity. That’s it. No other reason.

I can’t even process this. I’ve had enough. What on earth can we do to change this? And yes I’ll not be voting Tory at the next election. They are a bunch of posh rich boys that want to just look after themselves. Politics should be more diverse. what on earth can we do?

MPs probably need to be paid more to attract decent people and for them not to have to take second jobs. Unpopular opinion I know!

What utter hogwash!!

There's a reason it's unpopular. Has it ever occurred to you that that paying someone more doesn't always attract the right sort of person?

This argument is always bleated out as to why bankers in the City 'need' to earn astronomical bonuses etc. It's all rubbish. An excuse for the rich to get even richer.

It is strange the same people who were outraged that Sue Gray might move on from her job as a civil servant, seem to be perfectly happy for ex ministers to be scammed by their greed in trying to get other jobs.

Tories applying double standards? Well I never!!

Do you really think Labour will be any better? Really? That they haven’t got their snouts in the exact same troughs? That of/when they win the next election they will spend the next 5 years blaming the tories whilst nothing actually improves? This country is finished.

Yes I do. I will be voting Labour - definitely.

I really think they will do A LOT better, after the spectacular shit show of Boris closely followed by Truss.

And this - 2008;
Slow down, Minister... Harriet Harman caught speeding for second time
https://www.standard.co.uk/hp/front/slow-down-minister-harriet-harman-caught-speeding-for-second-time-6671470.html

Big deal. How does this equate with lying to Parliament repeatedly?

Roussette · 26/03/2023 13:39

Yeah and Penny Mourdant caught speeding only last month.

And Bristow, a Tory MP, who campaigned for tougher sentences for speeding caught speeding twice

Robert Jenrick caught speeding last month

Tory Police and Crime Commissioner who pledged a road safety crackdown, caught speeding five times in 12 weeks

Michael Fabricant caught speeding in Wales

We can all play this game can't we....

People should want to do it for service, at least a few terms. Were always being told that nursing and teaching are 'vocations' , to help justify crap wages.

we will only get high calibre politicians when they don't lose out by being an MP. I think they could be paid more.
I also think nurses and teachers should be paid more. Believing the two things are not mutually exclusive.

Johnson presented HIGNFY several times - if 15k is the going rate, that's fine (although i don't think a one-off spot is the same as doing it several times). So it's not an issue for me that Jess Philips presents it once or twice and gets paid the same rate any other presenter would get. There is a difference between being on a few shows and, say, going on I'm a Celebrity, or acting as a "consultant" for (eg) Energy companies for 150 grand a year for a couple of hours "work" while serving in government. And as PP mentioned, for professions that need ongoing accreditation it is sensible that a doctor (or whatever) keeps their hand in by working in their profession. And if you work - you should be paid.

As for the lockdown parties: if you make laws, you must keep them. If you break those laws then you must face justice - which should be applied equally.

smileladiesplease · 26/03/2023 13:45

Hate this tory scum virtue signalling stuff. Why use such silly language. Debate your ideas don't call people horrible names it's so off putting and so playground childish.

I agree the calibre of politicians is appalling now although that may be because we know far more about them than we previously did. I think most of them go into politics to self serve on all sides. This present government is a shambles but I probably wont be voting for starmer as I think he would probably be worse snd I don't think he can stand up to the hard left. But he's definatly improving if still mind numbingly boring.

Honestly have no idea who to vote for come the next election just yet.

RemoteControlDoobry · 26/03/2023 13:47

Maybe the Labour Party isn’t perfect but it’s the only alternative right now and they generally have far more integrity than anyone in the Conservative party. I agree with someone who said that some old-fashioned conservatives genuinely believe that society was better for all under the conservatives. Heidi Allen for example, but she left the Tory party a few years ago. I don’t know if I agree with this btw but I’d be willing to respect this view.

The press are owned by Tory billionaires. Look what happened to Jeremy Corbyn. I didn’t agree with everything Jeremy was proposing (I don’t think we should have nuclear disarmament for example) but I don’t think he ever wanted to be leader of the Labour Party particularly - he did it because he felt he could help people. He was a normal, decent man and anyone who can’t see that is a very poor judge of character. From what I saw, some very rich people feared he’d actually become prime minister and they’d have lost a lot of their hoarded money. I think he was also planning to stop the right wing control of the press and change the voting system so that all votes counted (currently Labour need far more votes than the Tories to gain a majority). So the press destroyed his character before he got the chance. It was awful to watch.

Oh and anyone who calls out this crap is labelled a conspiracy theorist and ridiculed. Like a narcissistic relationship on a very grand scale.

I want boring. I'm sick of 'characters' like Johnson with his ridiculous latin quotes, bluster, and soundbites. Give me boring any day.
And at least Starmer has a moral compass. Unlike Johnson who lies. How Starmer can be any worse god alone knows

smileladiesplease · 26/03/2023 13:48

Well if we are talking lying to parliament what price Blaire he took us into an illegal war and lied about it to Parliament.

And yes I voted for him 3 times!

smileladiesplease · 26/03/2023 13:50

His moral compass spins anyway it can to get elected. They all do. If you think starmer is some wise sage you are going to be very disappointed

Would you be so kind as to explain how Labour would be worse than a Conservative government that has deliberately crashed the economy and run down all manner of public services?

Can you find me an example of an MP from any party other than the Tories who has been convicted of breaking the law while they held high public office?

Labour were trying their best in 2009?

'On a thread that has had cutnpastova doing their usual.'

Why do you constantly lower yourself to this awful sneering. Clavinova constantly provides actual facts and evidence to discredit the often baying kob style of accusations on these threads. I get it must sting to be constantly proven wrong but calling other posters silly names is not a good look.

No they don't. They provide carefully selected extracts and articles that they think back up a particular view while studiously avoiding any follow up questions.

Take their copy and paste job at 12:54 which they claim shows Kier Starmer isn't "tough on crime". Only problem is the "proof" is written by a self proclaimed gossip columnist in a Conservative magazine (no chance of bias there) and also completely and utterly ignores the very pertinent fact that Kier Starmer is not in power, has never been in powe and therefore t cannot be said whether he is tough or lax on crime with any real measure of confidence.

According to the investigation that Led By Donkeys undertook the vast majority of sitting MPs with their scouts in the second job trough are/were tories.

Part of me hopes that Labour, Lib Dems, Greens, etc all refuse stand at the next election and force the Tories to try and fix the mess they have created and are actively trying to make worse. That would be delightful to see.

Singapore (best run country in the world?) Pays MPs over £500k a year. In the US congressman get £150k a year. Canadian and Australian equivalents get £125k a year.

We don't need normal or average MPs. Who wants an average person setting laws? Don't you want someone smart doing it? If you want average people setting laws why not have referendum then all the average people have a chance to set policy and run the country? Oh yes that turns out well.

Equally, I don't want someone making laws or setting policy who's so rich that they have no concept of what life is like for those who aren't wealthy and have to manage on average or low incomes.

Seeing rich people tell those on UC to work more hours to earn more money, when the marginal gain from those extra hours can be barely £3 an hour for someone on NMW just shows that they have no concept of what life is like for quite a lot of the people on whose behalf they are making those laws/policies.

jgw1 · 26/03/2023 14:09

Are those the only examples in your notes?

Yes easily.
Boris is a narcissist - whatever came his way he would screw up!

It was always obvious what Johnson was like. There were his eight years as Mayor Of London where, and his brief stint as Foreign Secretary when he basically screwed over Nazanin
