Gwyneth Paltrow and the skiing incident

Why is everything about suing these days?
He’s saying she crashed into him whilst being distracted by her kids. So it was an accident then? It’s not like she ploughed into him on purpose or crashed into him whilst drunk or high … it was an accident

She’s saying he crashed into her by accident and is counter suing him.

AIBU to think this whole suing culture for genuine accidents needs to stop?

I got compensation after an accident, I settled so didn't actually sue. It was an accident, I don't for a moment think the driver did it deliberately but I couldn't work for weeks, spent a week in hospital, was in lots of pain and vomitted myself inside out due to concussion. I got a few thousand which helped with my loss of earnings. I honestly don't think I did anything wrong, I didn't cause the accident but I did suffer the consequences, the driver was shaken up but completely fine physically. When someone at work made comments about people all being after money I told her if someone had offered me ten times as much to go through it I would have declined.

I'm amazed there are no actual witnesses to this accident. who could say definitively who skied into who.

There is one and G said she doesn't believe him.

LaughingSomnambulist · 25/03/2023 11:37

Skiing isn’t like suing someone because you trip over a step you didn’t see.

When you crash into someone whilst skiing, you can kill them. Children have been killed by out of control skier. Adults have been killed by out of control skiers. People are left with life long changes.

You cannot be distracted by your kids when skiing. You cannot be out of control. You cannot just crash into people and then go off as if nothing happened.

If the acccident is serious enough to you are arrested for manslaughter, or s lesser charge if the person survives.

If you cause injury but don’t get arrested then you can expect to be sued for damages.

Skiing accidents are not frivolous lawsuits. They are serious incidents.

We just need to wait and see if the truth comes out with this one so the right person pays.

She didn't back down or settle during the jade egg stupidity and let the court make the settlement against her. No effort to keep that out of the media either.

I think any press is good press is part of the GOOP motto!

That was on a third party product sold through her website. This is a personal matter.

She’s a very wise woman. I adore her.

Is that you GP?

The ski instructor says the guy skied into her, his mate Ramon says the opposite, although GP testified yesterday that she did not see Ramon at the scene.

Is this a jury case? That would put me right off as a juror. If you are innocent, no need to try and make this about sexual assault.

But she wasn't making it about sexual assault, she said it wasn't sexual assault but in the instant when it happened she thought it could be. Let's face in MN if a man dares to look sideways at you it is probably sexual assault let alone if he ends up on your back grunting.

Brefugee · 25/03/2023 11:46

she broke skiing etiquette and he got broken ribs. She's not behaving well here

SnottyLottie · 25/03/2023 11:48

Sirius3030 · 25/03/2023 09:41

Apart from the eyewitnesses, the fact that he was injured and she wasn’t. His injuries being consistent with being knocked over.
And I can assure you that on a ski slope, if you come in contact with another skier, you first thought is not about sexual assault, it is terror about the certain looming tumble and the likely pain or injury. She is lying.

Have you actually listened to her testimony about how they fell ? And how they landed up ? Obviously not . And how could he have conversed with the ski instructor if he was face down unconscious in the snow for 5 to 10 minutes ? Most of us will hear his testimony next week to see what he says . That’s how a court and jury works .

She was. She used words like violated, pervert, sexual assault, spooning, spread my legs, knees splayed. She was definitely putting as much focus on this being a sexual assault as she could.

I’m not. When I’m skiing I’m focusing on what I’m doing, not watching others closely. I saw two people collide a couple of weeks ago, they were right downhill from me but I couldn’t tell you what happened other than two people collided.

My thoughts are as soon as he read the contact details as to who he collided with he saw dollar signs. I bet he thought she would just settle to avoid the publicity of a trial. There is no CCTV or go-pro footage - so realistically it is going to be very difficult for him to prove his case. It is his witness evidence against hers. I feel she will win this.

And I actually have respect for her to defend the case. Her counterclaim is for one dollar - so it is just symbolic. I bet wealthy celebrities have chancers coming after them all the time. In my view if you ski you accept the inherent risk of injury from collisions of this nature.

Mysteriously his go pro has vanished. Maybe because it shows him crashing into her.

Funkyslippers · 25/03/2023 11:57

I'd be interested to hear what her son says because apparently he was near her when it happened

But this isn’t a court and jury. This is MN and people have opinions based on facts and evidence, or indeed have opinions based on really really liking GP, the very wise woman.
I’m guessing you don’t ski so you don’t understand the testimonies?

DaveyJonesLocker how do you know this?

KatherineJaneway · 25/03/2023 12:02

But he's already had a 3.1 million claim thrown out. She could have settled at any time, she could still settle at any time. This is a civil case, not a criminal one.

Why should she settle? That would indicate she was in the wrong but also make her a target for others hoping for a payout for no reason.

Funkyslippers · 25/03/2023 12:06

Sirius3030 if it's that clear cut it wouldn't get this far. You can easily get injured if you crash into someone else, as a pp has stated

KatherineJaneway · 25/03/2023 12:07

Ktime · 25/03/2023 08:32

And Gwyneth is only suing for $1, just to show that she was the injured party.

Hard to know who to believe. Would Gwyneth have been going so fast with her kids with her?

And she's suing for legal costs

Ellmau · 25/03/2023 12:07

I'm not convinced by his evidence At.All., but GP isn't doing herself any favours by her demeanour in court.

So the guy had a go pro with the evidence on it and now it’s gone missing but the only person other than him who saw this evidence is also his own adult child…..

All a bit Rebecca vardy that isn’t it.

I take that back. Absolute, complete and total apologies. I was absolutely in the wrong and should take my own advice before I make snarky comments. My “wise woman” comment should have quoted the Judge Judy comment - fucking app.
