Gwyneth Paltrow and the skiing incident

Why is everything about suing these days?
He’s saying she crashed into him whilst being distracted by her kids. So it was an accident then? It’s not like she ploughed into him on purpose or crashed into him whilst drunk or high … it was an accident

She’s saying he crashed into her by accident and is counter suing him.

AIBU to think this whole suing culture for genuine accidents needs to stop?

He's suing for an acknowledgment of wrongdoing he says.

He says she knocked him over, stood up and skiied off without a word and without rendering aid which isn't allowed. Apparently you are obligated to stop. Otherwise people would be left dying on mountains I suppose.

He's 'only' sued for $300000 I think which isn't much in the grand scheme of things,

His daughter said in her testimony that since the accident he's become obsessed with getting GP to say it was her that skiied into him.

I can imagine being in a situation where someone said I'd done something that I hadn't done, wanting people to know I hadn't done it! And it seems that's what he wants. It doesn't seem to be about money.

He began by suing her for $3 million, so I don’t think it’s really just about the acknowledgment of wrongdoing 🤔 Definitely suggests someone sniffing a financial opportunity to me…

Ilooklikesusiedent · 25/03/2023 08:28

Skiing can be incredibly dangerous. As we all know. She should have paid more attention, followed the rules and used her common sense tbh

And I expect the man she accidentally injured has had to pay for huge medical bills like an MRI etc.

Someone has to pay!

And now she's accusing him of sexual harassment for touching her and grunting at her :/

Ktime · 25/03/2023 08:31

I understand he initially sued for £5m and that claim was thrown out by the court. This time he is suing for £300k.

The £5m claim was just greedy.

TheFairyCaravan · 25/03/2023 08:32

I watched some of his daughter’s testimony yesterday and she appeared to be tying herself in knots to me. I didn’t think she was credible at all.

Unfortunately I didn’t see GP’s so I’m going to have to watch that today, but I do think there’s an element of “ooh we can make some money out of this” going on here.

Ktime · 25/03/2023 08:32

And Gwyneth is only suing for $1, just to show that she was the injured party.

Hard to know who to believe. Would Gwyneth have been going so fast with her kids with her?

Wtaf is that. Other than made up nonsense.

My favourite news story on this so far is that Gwyneth asked if she could bring “treats” into the trial for court staff. Bonkers.

lljkk · 25/03/2023 08:36

her testimony is that he came up from behind, hit her from behind?

Long time since I skii'd, but rule was the person upslope is always responsible.

That's not what the News story said.

It's also not what happened.

XelaM · 25/03/2023 08:40

She left a 78-year-old man with serious injuries on the mountain and skiied off!!! She's a disgusting human being and I hope he manages to get as much money as possible from her.

Her excuse: "he was groaning so I thought it was a sexual assault". 🙄🙄🙄🙄 She's horrible

StillWantingADog · 25/03/2023 08:42

@XelaM
did you miss the part where she asked him if he was ok and he said “yes”. This doesn’t seem to be disputed.

He wasnt 78 when this happened

That's his story of what happened, she has a completely different story of what happened - if you believe him. That's OK. But that's why it's gone to court, they both have different accounts of what happened and the jury will decide.

She hasn't accused him of sexual assualt.

That's enough to me. If someone says they're ok, why would you assume otherwise? And GP says he went into her, that would put him at fault.

Happy Good Morning GIF by joeyahlbum

Retired optometrist maybe he should have gone to Specsavers, from what I have read he ran into the back of her.

3 sides to every story.

Movingonup2023 · 25/03/2023 08:50

I have no idea how that image has appeared?! Wtf 🤯

XelaM · 25/03/2023 08:55

GP says he went into her

She had no injuries that would be consistent with her version of events. He, on the other hand, was seriously injured which matches his story. Her testimony is completely incredible

XelaM · 25/03/2023 08:57

from what I have read he ran into the back of her.

That's what she claims!! But the evidence clearly points to his version being a lot more credible

APolarBearTraverses · 25/03/2023 08:57

My thoughts are as soon as he read the contact details as to who he collided with he saw dollar signs. I bet he thought she would just settle to avoid the publicity of a trial. There is no CCTV or go-pro footage - so realistically it is going to be very difficult for him to prove his case. It is his witness evidence against hers. I feel she will win this.

And I actually have respect for her to defend the case. Her counterclaim is for one dollar - so it is just symbolic. I bet wealthy celebrities have chancers coming after them all the time. In my view if you ski you accept the inherent risk of injury from collisions of this nature.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/03/2023 09:01

According to today’s Times, there is pretty cast iron physical evidence (from his injuries) that she did ski into him, not the other way around.

TrishM80 · 25/03/2023 09:05

I wouldn't trust Gwyneth Paltrow as far as I could throw her.

No she didn't.

Have you watched any of this?

She said "momentarily, I thought "is this a practical jokee? Is someone doing something perverted? My brain was going very fast and I was trying to make sense of it" "he was pressed against me, his skis between mine and grunting"

I don't ski, but surely if you're coming DOWN towards someone who has their back to you, it's your job to get out of the way? Not the person who may not be aware you're there? In the same way you take evasive moves in a car?

Having watched a lot last night, and as someone who really doesn't like her or what she stands for, I'm inclined to believe her version of events.

SnottyLottie · 25/03/2023 09:06

It’s interesting when you compare it to Gaspard Ulliel’s (a famous French actor) skiing accident in the French Alps. He unfortunately died and the other skier (a Lithuanian) was investigated for manslaughter before the collision was ruled accidental. Makes you wonder how it would have played out in America.

shrimp88 · 25/03/2023 09:07

She says he crashed into her rather than the other way around. I think he could have seen this as an opportunity to make a lot of money and be lying about it. She probably would have settled out of court if he was telling the truth. I don't particularly like her but you would have to be quite evil to refuse to pay what must be a small sum to her if she thought she had caused him to be severely injured by skiing into him.

Funkyslippers · 25/03/2023 09:10

JustFrustrated that's right, you always give way to skiers already in front of you on the downslope and it's your job to move out of the way

lljkk · 25/03/2023 09:11

She only weighs the same as 3 twigs & a bag of sugar.

more seriously, Internet thinks she's 60kg (but she looks a lot smaller) & (internet thinks) he is 75kg.
Incident happened in 2016, so he was .... 69 then?

I don't care what happens to them, just that justice happens whatever that might mean about who is found guilty.
