Gwyneth Paltrow and the skiing incident

Why is everything about suing these days?
He’s saying she crashed into him whilst being distracted by her kids. So it was an accident then? It’s not like she ploughed into him on purpose or crashed into him whilst drunk or high … it was an accident

She’s saying he crashed into her by accident and is counter suing him.

AIBU to think this whole suing culture for genuine accidents needs to stop?

In fairness musingsinmidlife, his daughters gave evidence he drives down the motorway reading a book.

Exactly and this is an example of the woman who called wolf. It is a pretty low attempt at a defence - well I am a woman (a 5 foot 10 woman) so of course this 5 foot 5 man could have been trying to molest me on the ski slopes in full view of everyone. It comes across as a pathetic attempt to destroy this man - not only is he a possible liar, he is also some pervert who tried to assault her who "always tried to remain anonymous when skiing. In my ski suit and helmet I could be anyone" This actually shoots her in the foot about him knowing it was her and thinking oh I will ski into her to sue her. It is all part of the play acting between her and the prosecution.

The female prosecutor is also playing the game ( it's what court is all about) with her false compliments about her height, her potential ski suits which end up with G having to smile and laugh back and then put her poker face ( slightly smiley) back on. You could also see G at it when she asked the prosector to remind her of what her name was again. It smacked a bit of " you are of no significance to me Miss Prosecutor" and contrary to the rest of G's testimony let a little bit of irritation shine through. G's face is showing a mix of patience ( false?) , innocence (false?) but she is steely and well coached in avoiding anything other than the line " He skied into me" and "I don't recall" ad infinitum. She is trying to pretend to be ordinary and yes the ski school for her children was so expensive at $8000 ( a figure she couldn't recall) while sitting there in a $65000 necklace.

It's fascinating.

Aa a woman I’ve had to weigh up whether a man has assaulted me several times.

Most recently in a uncrowded supermarket, a man shoved his basket into my bum. He apologised profusely and I gave him a dead eyes stare whilst my mind raced wondering if he did it deliberately and if the profuse apologies were his MO to avoid blame.

I also wonder the same when a man brushes behind me too closely. I have to assess quickly whether he had room and was it deliberate.

So I can totally understand why GP may have wondered if it was assault.

https://www.newsweek.com/gwyneth-paltrow-trial-hinges-key-witness-ski-collision-1789127

According to Dave Aronberg, state attorney for Palm Beach County, Florida and former member of the Florida State Senate, there was only one witness to this incident. And this man, a ski instructor who arrived on the scene afterwards, "didn't even see everything," Aronberg told Court TV. The ski instructor then allegedly also blamed the plaintiff in this case, Sanderson, for causing the collision.

HER ski instructor did not witness it to clarify.

The witness referred to yesterday who G said was not telling the truth is mentioned in here.

No matter the outcome, I absolutely hate all the focus on how she looks, what she's wearing, if she is happy/contrite/sad/ordinary enough. Even in court cases, women are subjected to so much scrutiny and crap about their outward appearance. It's ridiculous.

Really? Her imagine is literally what's made her millions and afforded her to life the luxury lifestyle that we can all but dream about. She has endless access to security, privilege and quality on the back of selling her image, literally.

So your comment is just laughable to me.

Under American law, both parties are required to remain at the scene of an accident and exchange contact information. His lawyer quizzed her on this in the court trial - did she know the requirements to stay and share contact information? Gwyneth basically said she wasn't aware and left the ski instructor to collect information (it isn't clear how much of her personal information he shared at the time with the other party on the slope). I guess he will speak to that next week. I would imagine if I was a ski instructor, I would say very little and wouldn't be handing out a celebrity's phone number or address or insurance info.

Under American law? It’s either Federal or State (Utah). It’s also not a criminal trial but a civil trial.

GoodChat · 25/03/2023 16:41

@Ktime you sound paranoid.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 25/03/2023 16:42

This is a really interesting thread.

I do not like GP. Because of how she perpetuates her obvious eating disorder. But clearly a man whose own daughter has said he’s aggressive and a bad driver, who apparently was fannying about on a ski slope, is entirely culpable for his own actions. It it feels like GP has committed the cardinal sin of being female and not being apologetic about it. So she must be guilty.

What has any of this to do with a civil trial about a skiing accident?

I totally agree with @MelsMoneyTree

Everyone deserves justice though, even if
you’re privileged. Sorry if you find that laughable.

I have no skin in the game, I hope they work out who was at fault.

Yep

Same happened with Amber Heard.

She smiled too much

She didn’t smile enough

She wore black

She wore white

She looked too happy

She looked too sad

Why don’t these people just declare their hate for women and be done with it. Do us all a favour.

You thought a man, who nudged his basket into your bum, and who apologised profusely was sexually assaulting you??

You must be looking for issues.

The chances are, you were looking in the same section and he was distracted looking at the food and his basket hit your bum.

If it was his hand, you'd have a point. But what satisfaction do you really think he got from bumping you with his basket? And why would he then profusely apologise rather than claim ignorance?

Men are people with feelings too. However, if my partner was that man, and you death stared him, he'd have probably laughed in your face and gone about his daily business.

He SHOVED the basket, though. At least read my post properly before you spout your misogyny and ‘men have feelings too’ 🙄

Amber Heard is a poor example. Did you watch her? Her reactions were so far from typical. She came across incredibly insincere and contrived, that's why people critiqued her.

Oh, and the fact that her evidence didn't add up at all.

He's not actually. The knob would be the person who death stares someone who makes a genuine mistake.

If you accidentally bumped a basket into a man, would you be ok for him to death stare you? Is that ok with you?

She should buy him one of these

I too have had to weigh up if something crossed the line. A friends husband grabbing my waist to get past me. Or putting his hand just above my arse when having a photo taken etc. women deal with this shit every and I wouldn’t be a cool girl either if a man shoved his basket into my arse in the supermarket

Gwyneth Paltrow and the skiing incident

musingsinmidlife · 25/03/2023 15:32

Gwyneth is a celibrity born to celebrities. She grew up in Hollywood as the daughter of a well known actress and a director. She has never known normal life or what it means to be anything other than a celebrity.

I assumed her reactions to the instructor will take care of it and her demeanour in court are likely related to her lifelong experience as a celebrity. The only things she has ever known are entitlement, wealth, fame, and priviledge.

This was tackled by the female prosecutor - referring to G as usually having people to handle things for her which was the procedure regarding the ski incident report.

Nice of you to decide it was a genuine mistake when you weren’t there and I was. And I didn’t say anything to him.

Lets hope you’re never on a jury.

How do you know he shoved it, if you had your back to him?

He could have stepped towards the shelf/fridge and his basket swung and hit your bum.

You're looking for problems. And your reaction to him was rude and aggressive.

GoodChat · 25/03/2023 16:50

@Ktime I'm not a man. But not every man you come into contact with is sexually assaulting you.
