To be fucked off that DH ate my leftovers

I had an amazing dinner last night, steak platter with friends. It came with bubble and squeak, fab chips...piles of it, and we couldn't finish it. I checked with the others if they were OK with me taking the leftovers home, and was so so looking forward to them tonight. DH (a 'flexitarian' who tries not to eat meat), just told me he ate it for lunch.

I am so so pissed off, and I KNOW I should have expressly told him not to eat it if that's what I wanted. But I'm 6 months pregnant, hormonal, and when he told me I just saw red. Totally overreacted and told him I was really pissed off with him. Then went into our bedroom and had a scream into a pillow. I know, pathetic. Then I told him he could sort his own dinner out.

Now he's taken his coat and backpack and gone out, saying he can't stay here atm. It's completely blown up and I feel horrible. Currently sitting in the dark in DD's room. I hate this

Yanbu. My DH would have presumed it was mine and definitely checked before helping himself to it. I'd have been pissed off too if I was you!

Yes, it’s quite obvious really you have no experience with office fridges IRL. Food does accidentally get eaten by work mates that wasn’t theirs. And when it happens, you don’t have a rage and start screaming.

I've spent 17 years working in offices and have never seen this happen.

Any chance he's gone to the restaurant to replace the food he ate? <clutches at straws>

Hopefully.

This was your assertion- “Most people don’t actually think that anything in a shared home immediately becomes available to anyone living there.”
And yes, I’d like a receipt for your bold claim in relation to families not flatmates.

Im not the hysterical one here, you went on a tirade and called me “unbelievably arrogant” and “who made you Queen of Functionality” - which is highly emotional language.

I only called your claim “astounding and arrogant” (not you) and no, the sample size of votes on MN is too small and biased to serve as any sort of reliable statistic to use.

They said “Most people don’t actually think that anything in a shared home immediately becomes available to anyone living there.” and you interpreted that as “most families have his, hers, DC#1, DC#2, and so on’s food all separated out, individually labelled and untouchable” and demanded she prove the second statement…and then refused to accept the statistic that was given. 😂😂

You're being ridiculous.

You’re very lucky. A 2018 survey revealed as many as 61 per cent of office workers have at some stage had their food swiped from the office communal fridge, 19 per cent from their desk and 15 per cent have actually had their lunch taken while it was heating up in the office microwave.

One in three Brits have had their food STOLEN by a hungry work colleague

ALMOST one in three Brits have been the victim of “lunch larceny” while at their place of work, according to a new study. Researchers polled the nation’s office workers and discovered a…

I’ve never seen anyone accidentally eat someone else‘s food. How would that actually happen? Genuinely? Unless, as you suggested, they had an identical item, in which case it wouldn’t matter because there’d still be one left and neither side would even know.

I have come across people stealing other people’s food - and that’s obviously unacceptable. And people have been sacked for it.

That’s not BY ACCIDENT though?

I didn’t accept her 72% because it’s not a statistic. 🤷‍♀️

Anotherturnipforthebooks · 24/03/2023 21:58

Something getting 'swiped' isn't really an accident is it?

Well, it’s the SUN so they’re going to say 100% of missing food is on purpose. It isn’t always though.

Yes but that doesn't sound very 'accidental'. If somebody nicked my lunch from the works fridge I'd definitely have a go at them if I had the proof.

Of course it’s a statistic. What do you think a statistic is? With reading comprehension this poor, you’d hope you’d be good at maths 😂

No. Food gets stolen from office fridges by people that think they can just take and eat food that does not belong to them. And yes, people get mad about their lunch getting stolen in the office. All the time. You are obviously one of those cheeky, entitled fuckers that just helps themselves to other peoples lunches

So, you provided a source and now you’re saying we can’t use your source because your source is from an unreliable source?

How many times have you accidentally stolen something?

It’s not a statistic. I’m afraid what is lacking is your vocabulary, not my reading comprehension or maths.

Anotherturnipforthebooks · 24/03/2023 22:02

@L3ThirtySeven

So you refer to a mystery survey (no details about it) from The Sun to back up your point and then defend tell us we shouldn't believe it because it's in The Sun. Right.

No, I’m saying the figures from the survey are good, but the sensationalising interpretation of the SUN (journalistic embellishment) is questionable.

BadNomad · 24/03/2023 22:03

It's quite normal for a lot of families to bring leftovers home for each other, so I suppose it depends on if that is something you do in your family, or if he just didn't care and ate it because he fancied it.

My DP brings home desserts for me from work functions 😍If there is something specific he wants to keep for himself, he will tell me.

But only you know if this is a communication issue or a selfish greedy man issue. Raging at him doesn't help.
