I was always told as a child I'd be tall as an adult - by everyone around me - but my actual adult height is 5ft1/155cm. I'm female.

It’s tiny. I am 5feet and a one and a half inches.

The half an inch is very important.

This is not an average height . At all.

LightDrizzle · 23/03/2023 12:32

Very short. I’m an inch and a half shorter and very, very short. It’s a pain in the arse. I’d like to be 5ft4 or 5ft5.

RandomMess · 23/03/2023 12:37

Look at the growth height charts in the red books. Unless they've been improved in 20 years.

Try and buy a standard office chair that fits as per DSE regulations. I've utterly failed.

IAteAllTheTomatoes · 23/03/2023 12:39

I'm 5'1 and have been since I was 11!

All my sisters are under 5'4 but brothers all over 6ft.

For years, I longed for long sexy legs snd lived in heels. Still wear them but less so since covid.

Most of my female friends are betwen 5'4-5'8.

Unfortunately I only grown out not up!

JaninaDuszejko · 23/03/2023 12:40

I think it's worth pointing out yet again that there is no virtue or achievement in being big.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 23/03/2023 12:41

The average uk height for females is about 5'4" normal range is about 5'1-5'7" ie: 3 inches either way so under 5'1 is definitely short and over 5'7 would be tall. With younger women the average seems to be closer to 5'5"
5' is short but perfectly normal for a woman

Kranke · 23/03/2023 12:43

I’m 1.6m and think of myself as short.

weebarra · 23/03/2023 12:44

I'm 4'10" and very very rarely meet anyone my height. DD is 9 and quite a few of her friends are taller than me.

kezzieliza · 23/03/2023 12:44

I'm 5 foot 5 and often feel short so yes, I would say 5'1'' was definitely short.

Do people see it as a negative? I've always quite enjoyed my petite stature!

I had friends that were crazy tall at school and they hated it far more than I disliked being short. They always had awkward posture and kind of slumped so they weren't towering over everyone else.

I think it’s only a negative as it can restrict you from some jobs (or it used to). My mum couldn’t go into the police because she was short, and you couldn’t be cabin crew when I got the job. It’s probably an advantage when it comes to leg room on airlines or concert halls!

Im 5’5 and think I’m average height for my age. I’d probably be considered small compared to younger generations- they are getting taller!

DisneyDisney · 23/03/2023 12:47

It’s short, around 9th centile for an adult female, but it’s not so short as to appear abnormal.

im 5’3 and feel short too, oh what I’d give to be 5’5 lol

The adult height predictor girls starts at 4ft 11

And those are based on World Health Stats I think UK below average when it comes to world height.

The boys starts at 5ft 3.

Workawayxx · 23/03/2023 12:49

I’d say 5’1” is short but not excessively so. I’m 5’3” and consider myself slightly short/under average.

TeenDivided · 23/03/2023 12:49

I think it is short, below average but not massively so.
One of my DDs is just under 5ft2, the other just under 5ft. Those 2 inches seem to make a lot of difference.

RandomMess · 23/03/2023 12:23

It is short.

5' isn't even considered "adult" height.

Not sure if 5'1 is tbh.

Wtf does this mean?

DrEllie · 23/03/2023 12:50

I'm not quite 4ft 10in. Do I win a prize? And can I reach it 🤣

@DrEllie Yes tax free trainers!

Icecreamandapplepie · 23/03/2023 12:53

Very short! But then I'm 5.10". I'd consider us opposite twins on the height scale!

I'm only 4ft 8. Though dh maintains that once when I was measured by a machine Tesco- the printout said 4ft 7. I'm choosing to ignore that.

If 5'4 is average for a UK woman, then it is 3 inches below average. If it's considered short then surely 5'7 is tall. We don't consider those above 5'8 as massive, non adult hight etc, so I don't see why we say 5' or under is tiny, minatue or not an adult height.

My phillapino family are generally below 5 foot. When you see negative comments about them not being adult height etc, I wonder if the posters realises they are being negative toward other populations? People are so weird about height.

EauNeu · 23/03/2023 12:56

HappiestSleeping · 23/03/2023 09:42

I would say quite average. Does it bother you particularly? I hope not.

It's nowhere near average, you must know that? Nothing wrong with it but we are talking statistics here!

Lucifer you're not wrong. People are very odd about height- and get strangely offended when they feel the need to tell me I'm short (yes I know)- and then look at me as if I am supposed to do something about it. Oh, ok- I'll just add a few inches to my legs now you've pointed out my shortness...

It's quite funny really. I once told someone in a queue in shop (who had been loudly discussing me to her friend) that I was short, not deaf. I don't usually say anyithng- but she really irritated me!

Sugarfree23 · 23/03/2023 12:59

@Raahh you'll be glad the UK car seat laws at 135cm rather than 150cm🤣

Could you imagine the arguments with the kids who are taller than you 'But Muuum why do I need a car seat when you don't' 😂

Oblomov23 · 23/03/2023 13:01

Yes, it's short. I dislike being short.

I used to joke I wasn't far off needing a car seat- sun visors are a nightmare, they are above my eyeline head completely in the car, so sunny days are annoying.
It's an odd thing that car size is not an issues as to whether I can drive/reach the pedals it all depends on how low the pedals go. So- I could drive my Focus- but I couldn't drive a Fiesta we looked at at the same time(clutch went too far down- and I was already as close to the steering wheel as I could get).
