To think that 11 stone isn't that heavy unless you're really short?

When I was losing weight a few years ago I went down from 14 and a half stone to under 13 in the space of 4 weeks. However I then seemed to stick for ages round about the 11 stone mark - my target weight was 8 stone. However o can say that 11 stone felt infinitely different from being in the 14s although I was definitely overweight at this weight.

Anyway shout out and much love to anyone and everyone on a weight loss programme - it's bloody hard !

I can see that trying to talk to you like an adult was my first mistake @Rapapampam . I know better now!

I am 5"5 and 11 stone. It's definitely overweight for me. My bmi confirms I'm overweight and I look awful. Totally self inflicted due to a stressful year.

I do have a small frame so that might contribute. My face, wrists feet and ankles are still small and slender - so in photos, my head looks like a pea on a fork.

I've lived in dresses for the last year as I look awful in trousers.

I am the exact same and don’t look good anything over 10 stone. I look my best around 9-9.7 stone but not less than 9.

Is this your argument? The “adult” card? 😕

I am post meno.

The only way it works for me is to do low carb and walk 3 miles, fast, 5 times a week.

Low carb is carbs for one meal only. I rarely eat sandwiches- it's homemade soup and /or a salad for lunch, plain yoghurt & fruit, or eggs for breakfast with 1 slice toast or 2 oatcakes, dinner is chunk of fish or chicken made into various things, but with loads of veg and rarely rice, spuds or pasta. YES I do eat those things, but not every day , or 3 x a day. Cake etc is treat and only a small amount.

Thanks for the ideas. I do walk quite a lot and walk fast and probably do 3 miles several times a week, but could do more. I also do aerobic exercise on the rebounder 1/2 an hour several times a week. I think you are right about low carb. I tend to have a small portion of porridge or plain yoghurt with banana for breakfast, salad or soup or cheese and fruit, sometimes with 1 slice wholemeal bread, for lunch. Dinner is more difficult as I cook for DH and 2 hungry teenagers. I tend to have a little bit of what they are having with lots of veg, but those things tend to have pasta/rice/potatoes as I have a small amount of that. I was limiting dessert to Friday and Saturday night but have cut that to just Saturday. I occasionally have a square or two of dark chocolate, but generally no daytime snacks. DH do share a bottle of wine over 2 nights at the weekend which is one vice I'd like to keep. I think really I need to up the exercise a bit more and cut my portion of dinner carbs down further and see what I can achieve.

jainirrjones · 23/03/2023 11:40

time of the month, water retention, leg day! It's happened.

Fair enough. Weight training, and other exercise, definitely can make you heavier overall, and without showing it, I.e. you'll still look slim and toned.

mummylondon16 · 23/03/2023 11:43

I’m 5ft8. At 11 stone I am a small size 10. I have no boobs, a flat bum, my collar bones are showing. People start to question if I’m unwell. I had a dexa scan and it showed I have very high muscle so 11 stone means I have low body fat( for a woman). I’m currently 12.8 and in a size 14 and chubby. Those who comment as if everyone looks the same at 11 stone are just wrong.

How do you manage with fibre? Or iron. It sounds very low fibre/iron as well as low carb. I find it much easier to get enough fibre if I incorporate jacket potatoes, Weetabix, wholegrain rice, lentils, wholewheat pasta, wholemeal bread into my diet and have slightly more carbs but usually in the 100-150g a day rather than <100g say, even though I eat fruit like pears which are good for fibre, and green veg like broccoli also- often eight to ten portions a day . If I only have starchy carbs in one meal a day I end up having 18g fibre or day or less instead of the 25 - 30g recommended.

I just think that nutrients like fibre and iron (which often comes hand in hand with these foods) get overlooked these days in favour of keeping calories down and eating low carb and lots of protein. When actually, unless you are vegan, do a lot of weight training and are trying to bulk up, most of us don't really need to worry about protein intake and in face most people have too much protein rather than too little.

I’m 5ft4 and 8st4 and I have a healthy BMI. Depends on your height.

WanderingWildflower · 23/03/2023 12:17

I’m fairly short (5’3) and was just over 11 stone when I joined slimming world last year. I felt huge but looking back at photos, I wasn’t really esp not in clothes. I feel much better now at 9.5

SaySomethingMan · 23/03/2023 12:17

Nothing to add but i’m always re-surprised when i’m remembered of the average height of women. i used to think it’s 5’7”

kitsuneghost · 23/03/2023 12:24

I don't consider myself short and 11st is obese for me.

How tall are you then?

Bimblybomeyelash · 23/03/2023 12:27

I’m 5 foot 7 and 11 stone feels overweight for me. But I don’t feel fat. I’d like to loose a stone but it’s hard once you hit forty.

Advancedpie · 23/03/2023 12:27

Alittlenonsensenowandthen · 23/03/2023 09:17

I'm 5ft 5 and 11st is too heavy for me but mainly cos I'm apple shaped so I look like a barrel

I'm the same. Definitely lardy at this weight. I need to lose a solid 1.5-2 stone of fat.

MyOwnVolt · 23/03/2023 12:27

I’m exactly 5”4 and exactly 11 stone and while my BMI might list me as over weight, I’m not, i’m a size 10 with massive tits.

kitsuneghost · 23/03/2023 12:27

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 23/03/2023 12:26

Thanks, I eat lots of fibre I think. We eat lots of pulses like beans and lentils, lots of fresh veg. We also have meat once a week and fish a couple of times as well as well as eggs. Any carbs like rice/pasta/bread are wholewheat and porridge oats are a good source of fibre. It's just my teens and DH want huge dinners, so I tend to max out the carbs for them with brown rice/pasta and I just have a bit of it. The rest of the dinner might be homemade fish curry with lots of veg, a big veg and bean pasta sauce and grated cheese, steak mince bolognase with veg on the side. I think we eat pretty well, but I think I just need to eat a bit less of it and exercise a bit more if I want to actually lose 1/2 a stone.

Hubblebubble · 23/03/2023 12:29

I'm 5 ft 3 and exactly 11 stone. I too have massive tits. I hope they go down as I get closer to my healthy goal weight of 9 stone. In the meantime, I'd appreciate recommendations for a heavy duty sports bra. My ones from M and S just aren't doing the trick.

GoodChat · 23/03/2023 12:30

@kitsuneghost 5ft and you don't consider yourself short?

ReneBumsWombats · 23/03/2023 12:34

It's a healthy weight for people at certain heights, especially if they are muscular. It can even be skinny on taller women. It is a healthy weight at my height although I look and feel better at a lower weight.

Bravissimo are good for large cup sizes and have good sports bras.

No
It's a pretty normal height for a female
Although a little shorter than average (just under 5.3) I wouldn't consider it short.
It is less than 5% shorter than average.

jamsandwich1 · 23/03/2023 12:40

I’m a size 10 when 11 stone. I am over this at the moment, can’t seem to shift any weight 😫 11 stone is my target and I feel happy at that weight.

@Catspyjamas17 Chipping in as she replied to me :)

She says she eats porridge and lots of veg.
We need about 30gms fibre a day. Some people need less - depends on your bowels.

Carbs don't have to be grains.

So far today I've had 3 oat cakes, 1 tbs peanut and almond butter, a banana, an apple, a salad with lettuce, several olives, cheese, a bowl of carrot, sweet potato & ginger soup. One square of 80% chocolate.

Later it might be pasta (possibly lentil pasta) with roast aubergines, peppers, olives, butternut squash and spinach. (pasta is once now and then for me) Then yoghurt with blueberries and mixed seeds.
Plenty of fibre there.
