To think that 11 stone isn't that heavy unless you're really short?

When I was losing weight a few years ago I went down from 14 and a half stone to under 13 in the space of 4 weeks. However I then seemed to stick for ages round about the 11 stone mark - my target weight was 8 stone. However o can say that 11 stone felt infinitely different from being in the 14s although I was definitely overweight at this weight.

Anyway shout out and much love to anyone and everyone on a weight loss programme - it's bloody hard !

I looked gaunt at 11 stone & could fit into children's clothes (a mners dream i’m
sure!).

bmi is fucking bullshit anyway. It was designed by a mathematician to measure MENS weight on a population level. It does not take into account a woman's proportions aka tits and hips. More so, a healthy bmi used to be considered up to 27. It was changed by the diet industry because 25 ‘looked better’.

Maybe you carry a lot of muscle so can look very slim at heavier weights? I have very little muscle and am 5ft8. At 11 stone I look fat. A BMI of 25 for me is 11 stone 6 and I certainly look very overweight then. If I went up up to a BMI of 27 I'd be very fat.
Just shows how we all carry weight differently and some are heavier because of more muscle mass.

Putyourdamnshoeson · 25/04/2023 11:10

I am fat, about 15 stone at 5 foot 5, I'm a 16/18 though and when I said I was 15.5 stone (about 6onths ago I was, my friend laughed, she assumed I was joking).
When I was 11 stone my BMI was overweight, but I was a size 10. When I was 10 stone I looked dreadful. People often asked if I was ill, despite having a healthy glow.

I used to assume I was in denial, but looking back at photos, I definitely looked my best between 11/11.5 stone and a size 12.

Tigofigo · 25/04/2023 11:13

I'm definitely overweight and fat at 11 stone.

Currently 9 stone 5 and I have big rolls of tummy fat and feel flabby and unhealthy. I don't have much muscle and am small boned so am quite light - a healthy looking weight for me is about 8 stone 10.

Pretty similar l. 5'3 and 9st 3, small boned, feel just right at 8st 10. Can I ask how tall you are?

LibbyL92 · 25/04/2023 22:03

What diet did you follow?

anniegun · 25/04/2023 22:06

A lot of people are in denial about being overweight

JustDanceAddict · 25/04/2023 22:09

It would be for me! I got up to nearly 11 stone w my first pregnancy (41+ weeks gestation) - I was just over 8 stone (a small 12) when I got pregnant. I’m 5ft4.

Geckle · 25/04/2023 22:23

11 stone is a ‘healthy’ bmi for me ( right on the cusp of being overweight though!) My pre pregnancy weight was 11 stone 2.
I’m 2 stone over that at the moment (I gave birth earlier in the year) & I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been. I don’t carry the extra weight very well.

It’s funny, because I always thought I was a little on the heavier side at 11 stone 2 but I’d love to be that weight again. Looking back at pics, I actually look good, so that’s one of my aims for the next year.

Putyourdamnshoeson · 25/04/2023 22:27

@anniegun I think you are right. I'm not in denial. I am definitely fat. But in saying that, I am 1 inch taller than @JustDanceAddict and if I were 8 stone, I KNOW I would look dreadful and I was a comfortable 10 at 10 1/2 stone (and I don't mean in vanity sized Next clothes, where I'd have been an 8 at most), yet she is saying that at 5 ft 4 and 8 stone she was a 12. I can't begin to work that out. The disparity is huge.
At the time I felt thin, I had hip bones jutting. But I was only just inside healthy BMI. My boobs are average. I am heavy boned, I know this to be true, having had bone tumours and swearing specialists having to hammer through to get biopsies 😬

WazzleEuuu · 25/04/2023 23:19

It depends on how tall you are, where you carry your weight, how much muscle you have ect

I'm 5'1 so 11st would be too much for me unless it was all muscle 😅

Wednesdayonline · 25/04/2023 23:28

Its fine for me. Currently 5ft 8, 10 stone 7 ish, pretty active, slim with waist 28 inch and wear size 10. But I'm quite broad and have defined arm/shoulder/back muscles from years of swimming when younger.

Rosesandstars · 25/04/2023 23:28

I think I'm quite 'big boned' and looked relatively slim at 11 stone, was a size 10 at 10st 7 but unfortunately I'm now obese and would love to be 11 stone again!

Hoolihan · 25/04/2023 23:33

I'm 5'8, look best at about 10.5st but find it really hard to maintain. Still look fine at 11st/size 12. At 11.5st I start looking heavy, even though I'm technically a healthy BMI.

Sleepyandconfused · 26/04/2023 00:18

I’m 11 stone. My BMI is healthy, I have an active job and also cycle for 1-2 hours a day. I don’t eat junk food and don’t think I could actually get much lighter. I’m size 10. So no, I don’t think 11 stone is too heavy!

EDVLL · 26/04/2023 00:19

Im 5ft3 and 11 stone is my unhappy place, It’s about where I was at after having my daughter (size 12) but I think only slightly in the overweight BMI category from memory? 8 stone is my skinny teen years lol, I’d settle for 9 stone after 2 kids

I'm not sure what you're asking or what your AIBU is.
I'm not a fan of using just BMI as an indicator of how fat you you are. I also think it matters which direction your weight is going.
If say you're 5ft 6 and a size 18/20 and skim down to a 14/16 I could imagine you would feel pretty happy in your skin even though you're carrying a bit extra and would be a 12 if you were within 'healthy weight'.
If you were a trim 10, and are now a 14 2 years post pregnancy I'd expect you wouldn't feel as satisfied.

I'm a bit overweight but carry it quite well. I often get told I'm not fat....usually by people who are fatter. I sat at what I call 'complacency weight' for a while. Stay their a year and you become fat blind

LighterNights · 26/04/2023 01:01

I'm 5'7" and 11st is perfect for me. I'm muscular though, so low body fat.
