To think that 11 stone isn't that heavy unless you're really short?

When I was losing weight a few years ago I went down from 14 and a half stone to under 13 in the space of 4 weeks. However I then seemed to stick for ages round about the 11 stone mark - my target weight was 8 stone. However o can say that 11 stone felt infinitely different from being in the 14s although I was definitely overweight at this weight.

Anyway shout out and much love to anyone and everyone on a weight loss programme - it's bloody hard !

I'm 5' 6" and look great at 11 stone - curvy and in proportion, definitely not fat but obviously not skinny. I was about a size 12, ran regularly, went to the gym. I have long legs and am an hourglass shape so perhaps wear it better than other shaped people.

Unfortunately I'm currently 15 stone and look and feel very overweight... oh to be 11 stone again!

I'm 5ft 5.5 and once weighed 10 stone (put on over lockdown) it was too heavy for me and I was a size 10-12.

You'd need to be around 5ft 10+ to carry off a whole 11 stone and not look overweight.

I definitely would not look overweight at 11 stone, I'm 5'7".

At 12 stone odd currently I'm a size 12-14. Measurements are 39, 31, 39. Standard 14 in most shops but 12 tops fit best mostly.

TheLoupGarou · 23/03/2023 10:24

I'm 5ft 8 - I'd still be about a size 14 at 11st. I think I look best at about 9st 7-10lb. I am currently about 13st and it is horrendous trying to shift it since hitting perimenopause - I want to say impossible but I know that is bollocks 🤣

EggyBreads · 23/03/2023 10:25

No at 11 stone I'd be classed as overweight by BMI. I'd also look fat. I'm 5'5 and try to keep my weight just under 9 stone. Any heavier than that and I can feel my belly and arms jiggling when I run and I don't like it! It's all very personal though.

MrFlibblesEyes · 23/03/2023 10:26

I find these threads endlessly fascinating, the way people of different frames can carry weight so differently! There was a pp who is the same height as me (5ft2.5) saying they are happy at 10st and look gaunt at 9st, yet I look quite chubby at 9st and feel most comfortable at around 8st2 ish!

Tailrunner · 23/03/2023 10:26

This is interesting as I am 5 foot 5 and obese atm but losing weight. I have set 11 stone as my first target to aim for. I know I'll need to lose more after that but it's an achievable first goal to aim and I'll lose motivation if I look too far past that right now. I do wonder how I'll feel when I get there. When I was slimmer/lighter I had very poor self esteem and felt huge so I barely noticed when I put the weight on as I felt awful whatever I weighed. I'm much happier and more confident in myself these days and I'm hoping I'll appreciate being lighter and healthier this time but I have no memories of feeling good about my weight or shape. Even as a teen I felt massive. I'm trying to focus less on looks (as I'll still have the stretch marks and probably loose skin 😥) and more on finding it easier to run and being healthier.

SlippinKimmy · 23/03/2023 10:27

I’m 5’9” and currently 11 stone - BMI is 23 I think and I’m not fat but do prefer to be less, trying to get down to 10.5 stone. It totally depends on your height and build, it’s not a blanket overweight figure.

On another note, I recently reread The Silence of the Lambs and the main victim, Catherine Martin, chosen for her large size and frame, constantly referred to as a big girl who needs plus size clothing, who describes herself as ‘a girl and a half in all directions’ is revealed to be 149lbs at 5’10”. So 10 stone 10. Comfortably in the BMI healthy range. Guess the 80s were a different time…

jainirrjones · 23/03/2023 10:23

I agree

Unless you’re 6’2” or taller (but that’s a rare height for a woman).

jainirrjones · 23/03/2023 10:29

I definitely would not look overweight at 11 stone, I'm 5'7".

No, not extremely overweight but not slim either. It is quite heavy, 11 stone.

Babooshka1990 · 23/03/2023 10:33

I felt perfect at 11 stone and I’m only 5ft2. Overweight on the charts but I’ve never been naturally thin and I’d have to eat about 500cals per day to be thinner.

borntobequiet · 23/03/2023 10:33

I’m 5’4” and weigh just over 11 stone. People comment on how slim and fit I look. Personally I’d be more comfortable if I lost half a stone, but I’ve always been heavier than I appear.

Babooshka1990 · 23/03/2023 10:34

I think people who are naturally thinner, don’t have a hormonal issue like PCOS or menopause, just don’t understand why other women aren’t thin. It’s not all down to diet.

Fifi1010 · 23/03/2023 10:34

Its at the very end of upper healthy BMI for me. I have really good boobs at that weight. I'm 9 stone 4lb and I want to gain a little bit as my boobs are shrinking .

GoodChat · 23/03/2023 10:34

Rapapampam · 23/03/2023 10:23

Sorry but 11 stone it is heavy, even for a tall woman.

It's clearly not, given a lot of the responses here.

Crafty09 · 23/03/2023 10:35

I’m 5 ft 4. 11 stone is great for me although technically overweight. But then fluctuate between 11 and 13.7 . I have to work consistently hard to stay at 11 stone.

borntobequiet · 23/03/2023 10:36

Oh and I’m a size 12/14 at the moment. If I drop half a stone, I’ll be a 12.

Butterkistfiend · 23/03/2023 10:37

At 5’3, I would be and look, pretty overweight at 11st.

Stravawindow · 23/03/2023 10:38

I am 5'7 and 10.5. I feel and look overweight at 11 stone. That said, when I put weight on it goes on my face and boobs first so it's not a gradual all over weight gain. It's evident when I put weight on.

Wombats23 · 23/03/2023 10:38

Would love to be 11st again but my set weight is way higher and it's a real struggle to get anywhere these days. Even though I'm short, 11st is on the skinny side for me and I really do feel thin at that weight. I'm naturally very solid. :-)

ArmchairAnarchist2 · 23/03/2023 10:39

I'm 5'4 and have a really low BMI due to illness but at 11 stone I looked overweight and felt it. What do you class as a shorty? At 8 stone I look slim, am in the healthy range and would
be happy with that. I'm currently just over six and look terrible. I think my BMI is about 16, although I haven't looked for a long time. It works both ways but generally a healthy BMI (although a bit outdated) is ok as a rough guide. I think we've lost sight of what a healthy weight looks like, buoyed up by vanity sizing. I picked up a size eight jacket in Sainsbury's the other day (I'm classy like that) and it drowned me. I can imagine in Topshop it would have been at least a 12, clothing sizes doesn't tell you much.

Sorry but 11 stone it is heavy, even for a tall woman.

this makes no sense

Abra1t · 23/03/2023 10:40

I would look overweight at 11 stone and 5''7". I look bigger than I like to be at much over 10 stone and prefer to be around 9'11".

Bluebirds1987 · 23/03/2023 10:41

I think it's all really relative and depends how tall you are! 11st would be really heavy for me, but I'm 5"2 so quite short. I've always been about 9.5 stone and I still look quite overweight/ pregnant (2 kids under 4) and have a huge tummy. A healthy mid BMI weight for me would be about 8.5st I think. But that's totally unrealistic and I have to work really hard to not put more on!

However, I think weight is only a small part of wellness in general. Your fitness levels, happiness and the choices and lifestyle you live are all factors, and you've clearly done an incredible job so far losing weight. I don't think it's heavy for your height - It's just a number and the bigger picture is how you feel! Xxx

To lower the tone, I've just re-read Riders in preparation for the Disney+ launch of Rivals and the amount of fuss about Tori 'hefting' her 11.5 stone around and being too big to fit through a door is off the charts. Things really were different in the 70's. 11.5 stone appears to be the fattest woman they can conceive of.

I would love to be down to 11.5 stone....

Things were definitely different in the seventies, I was 5ft 7" and fit and went up to 11 stone and I felt fat, was definitely considered fat by everyone else, and was told by my GP that 11 stone was "a bit over the odds" and that I needed to lose weight. I starved myself (didn't know how else to lose weight) and got down to 9st and felt great, but couldn't maintain it so went back up to 10st where I stayed for a long time, but was still considered on the heavy side.

I'd kill to be 10 stone now.

Theelephantinthecastle · 23/03/2023 10:41

There are more categories than slim and vast. At 11 stone and 5ft 5, I am not slim but I am definitely not huge, I have a 28 inch waist. I don't look tiny but I really don't look like a whale either
