To think that 11 stone isn't that heavy unless you're really short?

When I was losing weight a few years ago I went down from 14 and a half stone to under 13 in the space of 4 weeks. However I then seemed to stick for ages round about the 11 stone mark - my target weight was 8 stone. However o can say that 11 stone felt infinitely different from being in the 14s although I was definitely overweight at this weight.

Anyway shout out and much love to anyone and everyone on a weight loss programme - it's bloody hard !

I am short (not very short just short!) and at 11 stone, BMI puts me as overweight but I look pretty good - I am an hourglass though which really helps

For me, the tipping point is around 12st, over that and I look fat, 11-12 stone, I look nice but not "thin"

Prettybubblesintheair · 23/03/2023 09:29

I’m 5ft 2 and almost 12 stone, my bmi is 31 so i have 3 stone to lose. Last year on the 22nd of March I was 18st 7lb with a bmi of 46.7 so I’m heading in the right direction at least!

I'm tall (5.11) and 11 stone is about right for me. Currently 11.5 stone and feel slightly wobbly..

I'm in the same boat. I'm not overweight but I'm definitely "softer" than I should be.

I'm aiming to lose a few pounds gradually over the next few weeks. Nothing drastic though.

I'm 5ft6 so not short and 11st 3 is overweight BMI afaik. My heaviest was 11st 2. I was a size 14, 38 inch bust, 30 inch waist and 42 inch hip. I lost weight and only now can see how big I was and I'm not skinny now, I just don't carry it well apparently!

I’m the very same height and I would look very heavy at 11 stone. At that weight and height I’d be a sniff away from obese.

SallyWD · 23/03/2023 09:31

It really depends how you carry weight and whether that weight is muscle or fat. I'm fairly tall at 5ft8 and 11 stone is within a healthy BMI for me. However, I really lack muscle and whenever I've been 11 stone it's just excess fat I'm carrying and I definitely look chubby. So for me 11 stone is too much despite it being a healthy BMI.
I have friends who are shorter than me and weigh 11 stone or more and they look great! It's because they have a lot of muscle and look very lean, not in the slightest bit fat.

BadForBusiness · 23/03/2023 09:31

11 stone would put me at a BMI of 26. I'd look (even more) dumpy at that weight, but not actually fat - pretty normal for a middle aged woman. Impact on health for a middle aged white woman would be minimal on average - it would up your risk of breast cancer noticeably though, and if you had specific health conditions affected by weight then it would be more important to keep it lower.

My BMI is 24.5 but my blood pressure is iffy so I could really do with losing a stone to help keep it under control (along with drugs).

To lower the tone, I've just re-read Riders in preparation for the Disney+ launch of Rivals and the amount of fuss about Tori 'hefting' her 11.5 stone around and being too big to fit through a door is off the charts. Things really were different in the 70's. 11.5 stone appears to be the fattest woman they can conceive of.

I would love to be down to 11.5 stone....

Omg agree - for ages 11.5 stone was a Holy Grail weight for me - although still far off my target , I used to think when I was in the 14s that once I was 11.5 my life would be so much easier !!

I'm 5'7 and look fine at 11st but better at 10st. 9st I don't look well. I was 8st as a teenager and I feel like I looked less scrawny then than I do if I get under 9.5st now, presumably because my body shape is different - I had zero muscle then for a start! There's so many factors that make a difference its really hard to compare people

80sMum · 23/03/2023 09:33

I'm on the short side and 11st would give me a BMI of 27.5, which would put me just into the "overweight" category. So I'm sure it would be a healthy weight for someone taller.

Bintymcbintface · 23/03/2023 09:36

I'm 5ft 3 and 7st 9 and a size 6. 10st 2 and I looked huge but my frame is slight. 11st I'd look like a beach ball with a face

Chilloutsnow · 23/03/2023 09:37

I look fucking beautiful at 11 stone. I’m 5 foot 7, quite a wide frame, good child bearing hips as my Nan would say. Great pair of tits and arse and I love going to the gym. Husband no complaints lol 😂

BillyNoM8s · 23/03/2023 09:39

I'm 5ft 4 and definitely fat at 11 stone (my current weight...).

Obviously I could be fatter, but that doesn't make me any less fat right now.

davegrohll · 23/03/2023 09:39

I'm 5ft 4 and currrently 11 stone 6 months pp. I'm overweight and bmi tells me I am ! It's all on my stomach though so it's just 😫😫 pre pregnancy I was 9.5 stone and a healthy bmi

I just love your love for yourself, fantastic to feel that about yourself, your husband is a lucky man and I bet he knows it!

PuttingDownRoots · 23/03/2023 09:42

In my adult life the lightest I've been is just under 10st when ill with morning sickness and I looked it. Look healthy between 10.5st and 11stone.
Wide shoulder and hip bones!! (And reasonably tall at 5ft7)

My current weight loss target is 12stone. Was 16st in January.

littlestrawberryhat · 23/03/2023 09:42

I’m very tall (6’1) and 11 stone is too heavy for me, I feel wobbly and pretty gross tbh. All depends on how your body stores it I guess. I’m technically a healthy bmi but with an unhealthy amount of extra weight round my middle which just won’t shift!!

RedToothBrush · 23/03/2023 09:43

The average height for a woman in the UK is 5'4".

Anyone saying 11stone isn't heavy on this thread is over that.

If you were 5'4" and 11stone you would be by definition overweight.

So by definition 11stone is heavy for a woman. But not necessarily unhealthy if you are above average in height. But unhealthy if you are average height or below.

Daffodilfrog · 23/03/2023 09:44

I’m 5 10 and that would give me a bmi of 22 .. I’m currently a bit less but have weighed over a stone less when the kids were tiny - you really couldn’t tell the difference - height disguises a lot

OliviaPark · 23/03/2023 09:44

I’m 5’6’’ and at 11 stone am a size 12 and feel good. I have a medium frame, big boobs and quite long legs for my height.

At 10 stone I am a size 8/10 and people ask if I am ill all the time.

This thread really shows how we all carry weight differently!

BooksAndHooks · 23/03/2023 09:44

I’m 5ft 5 and currently 10 stone 7. I am definitely too heavy at this weight. To be a ten I have to be around 8.5 stone.

GoodChat · 23/03/2023 09:45

I'm 5'6" and 11 stone is about right for me.

VaulterTech · 23/03/2023 09:46

I don’t know about bmi, but for me 11stone is overweight. I’m 5’7 and around 10stone is my comfy weight.

GoChasingWaterfalls · 23/03/2023 09:48

5ft 4 here and currently 11 stone, trying to lose weight after piling on the pounds due to hypothyroidism.

My BMI is in the overweight category and I definitely look it. I'm much more comfortable when I'm 10 stone.

It's amazing how a couple of inches of height makes such a difference to us all in terms of how we carry the weight etc.

Weight and BMI are pretty blunt instruments for measuring overall health. Muscle weighs 3 times as much as fat, so if you exercise regularly and are a fit and muscular 11stone that will be healthier than being an unfit 9 stone with lots of unseen visceral fat. Being healthy and fit is what matters; weight per se not so much.

I love how this always comes up....yeah if you were a heavy built heavy lifting rugby player or power lifter perhaps you could be healthy at a high BMI. But is that ever actually the case with posters here, who is claiming to be so muscle bound it doesn't work for them?? Its really hard to add muscle to your frame, big or small, I've been doing it for years and went from 50kg to 56kg so only 6kg of pure muscle and it's v noticeable. Besides muscle isn't heavier than fat (take a physics class) it's denser, more tightly packed so looks leaner
