To think that 11 stone isn't that heavy unless you're really short?

When I was losing weight a few years ago I went down from 14 and a half stone to under 13 in the space of 4 weeks. However I then seemed to stick for ages round about the 11 stone mark - my target weight was 8 stone. However o can say that 11 stone felt infinitely different from being in the 14s although I was definitely overweight at this weight.

Anyway shout out and much love to anyone and everyone on a weight loss programme - it's bloody hard !

I must have heavy bones as I'm 5 foot 2 and at 11 stone would be a size 12.

CoffeeBean5 · 23/03/2023 10:09

Bmi is accurate unless you’re a bodybuilder with loads of muscle. According to this chart, 11st is only a healthy weight for those 5’7” and taller.

There's alot of dramatic people on this thread, nobody looks "awful" at 11 stone.

Sorry but I would look horrendous at 14 stone. I am very short so I would be huge at that weight.

Aprilx · 23/03/2023 10:10

I am 5ft 8 and was 11 stone for many years although I am a bit more now. When I was 11 stone I wore a size 12/14 usually a 14 but some 12s would fit.

JeepersCreeperrs · 23/03/2023 10:12

I’m 9st 7 and 5’4. I look at at 10st 7 and at 11st I feel awful. So, yes and no. But I’ve only been 14st when pregnant so I don’t know how that feels day to day to compare.

it’s personal and it’s what you feel comfortable at.

I think you are misunderstanding how BMI works.

I can assure you that I very much understand how BMI works.

Maybe you don't understand?

The point is there is huge range in 'healthy' . But for some people the upper end would not be healthy.

Compare it to speed limits if you are driving. The legal top speed might be 70mph, but according to traffic and road conditions, you don't HAVE to drive at the maximum speed.

There are 3 body types- ectomorph, endomorph and mesomorph.

I'm an ectomorph but the family tendency is to store fat on the abdomen and be an apple shape and there is a history of stroke/heart attacks. I can't afford to follow the BMI range that would still class me as 'normal' if I weighed 10 st. It would all be on my tummy and be visceral fat.

Interestingly Jessica Ennis Hill only weighs around 9st and she's pure muscle.

I must have heavy bones as I'm 5 foot 2 and at 11 stone would be a size 12.

You would have a bmi of 29 so be nearly clinically obese, regardless of the label in some leggings.

CornishGem1975 · 23/03/2023 10:14

I'm short and 11 stone would push by BMI into 'Obese'.

CornishGem1975 · 23/03/2023 10:14

It would also make me a size 14-16. At 9 stone I am a size 10-12.

Hedonism · 23/03/2023 10:15

BMI is a much better indicator than weight alone because it takes your height into account. If someone (who you can't see!) says 'I weigh 11 stone' then that tells you much less than someone who says 'my BMI is 32'.

People always trot out the lean muscle thing and the exceptions to BMI, but it is a reasonable indicator for 99.99% of the population, even if you do do weights at the gym a couple of times a week.

Ahh, thank you. I have a lot of respect for my body and women spend far too long hating themselves. What a waste of time. Eat healthily, everything in moderation, eat the cake and enjoy life.

posygir · 23/03/2023 10:16

I'm 5ft6 so not that short and 11 stone would be ridiculously heavy for me. My body likes to sit at 8.5 stone, I'v hit 9.4 stone after pregnancy and felt really unhealthy.

ocpwr · 23/03/2023 10:17

I am 5ft 7 and 11st 6, i am trying to reach 11 because thats a good weight for me. currently lost 3 st but this last 6 pounds are a bugger to shift.

I must be big boned 🤣

MrsRandom123 · 23/03/2023 10:18

Thats 2 stone more than i weigh just now and would put me in the over weight category but not obese i’d probably be a size 12 at that size maybe a 14 but but i’m only 5”4.

My bmi currently sits about 21 so in the middle of the healthy range so i’m fairly comfortable & able to maintain it & i fluctuate up & down by a couple of pounds but thats it as i go by my clothes and if my jeans start to get tight i know i’ve over did it a bit.

jainirrjones · 23/03/2023 10:18

I'm 5ft 5.5 and once weighed 10 stone (put on over lockdown) it was too heavy for me and I was a size 10-12.

You'd need to be around 5ft 10+ to carry off a whole 11 stone and not look overweight.

orangepoang · 23/03/2023 10:18

i'm 5 ft 8 and have a very short -torso. 11 stone doesn't look good on me as all my fat is on my flanks and sits out at the front.

so it depends on your body shape, if you are a pear shape- smaller waist, larger hips and thighs, i think it would be absolutely fine unless you are shorter.

Catspyjamas17 · 23/03/2023 10:19

I got down to 11 and a half stone by doing fast 800 but my hair started falling out after 8 weeks. I could get down to 11 stone by eating low carb and low calorie but wouldn't have the energy to do as much exercise as I do now, or do my work or all the other things I have to do. I'm heavier now but feel strong, fit and full of energy. Which is no mean feat at 47. I'd like to be lighter but am not prepared to compromise how great I feel now not worrying about my weight.

KatesLipGloss · 23/03/2023 10:19

I'm 5ft 6 and 11 stone would mean a BMI of 24.7 which means that by population-level screening I'd be OK.

But on my frame it's too much - I look and feel much better at no more than 21.3

Somanycats · 23/03/2023 10:20

Most women would be overweight at 11 stone.

AutisticLegoLover · 23/03/2023 10:21

I'm 5'3" and I was 11stone at full term with pregnancy 2. I'm 9stone and a few ounces now. BMI 22 something.

But you will enjoy life a lot more if you are healthy which isn't really consistent with being overweight especially as you get older

Eat cake - but probably monthly not daily

Take yourself out of the mainstream pressure on your body but also take yourself out of all the other mainstream pressures. - that you deserve that biscuit, that you are way too busy so deserve the take away , the cooking short cut jar of sauce

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 23/03/2023 10:23

I've no idea what my BMI is but I'm 5'7" and 11 stone exactly. I'm a size 12 generally. I think it depends very much on body shape and height as to how well you carry the weight. To be honest I don't really care how much I weigh as I'm pretty fit for my age and probably the strongest I've been in decades!

Rapapampam · 23/03/2023 10:23

Sorry but 11 stone it is heavy, even for a tall woman.
