To demand all my money back?

Travelled 2 hours to get away for 2 nights with the kids. Once we checked in I put everything down in the lodge and went to get some shopping and some food. By time we got back here it was late. No cot for DS and no water in the hot tub. I’ve stayed here numerous times and never had an issue so I just assumed was all ok.

their is no signal so I’m having to walk the kids down to the reception just to try and contact someone.

first time I’ve come anywhere on my own with the kids and it’s just all gone so wrong.

Because then she'd be wasting time on her only full day having to go shopping instead of sorting it on the first night knowing it's then all done for the rest of the trip?
Because maybe OP came straight from work/school pick up and didn't want to leave food in the car all day packed that morning?
Maybe plenty of reasons. Why is any of it relevant? When you book and pay for a service you expect it to be there. It wasn't as described, so OP wants compensation.

Well if her complaint is as holey as her OP

she doesn’t stand a chance

Am I the only person in the world who wouldn’t let DCs into a hot tub until they were 12? Surely the child who sleeps in a cot was not going in this hot tub?

I was once desperate for some relaxation at a holiday park and went out early to use the hot tub on site. Only for the DCs to follow me and just lean on the wall watching me mournfully while I tried to let the bubbles unclench me.

I have a hot tub and our toddler goes in it. It’s heated to 37 / 37.5 which is body temp and she only goes in it during the milder months. It’s cleaned properly, maintained regularly, levels checked daily etc. During summer we drop the temp and it’s lovely during hot days.

id never let her in it at 40 degrees during -2 in the winter! But as we have it set up is perfectly fine

There is only 2 things you need to know or be concerned with here from the OP.

  1. she arrived at lodge.
  2. The lodge didn’t have the amenities she asked for and has paid for.
Thats it. Everything else is just you and others sticking the boot in and being miserable picky sods for no reason other than to vent your own frustrations. No need. Just scroll by!

Yes. You probably are the only one who wouldn’t let your child in a hot tub until they are 12. It’s sanitised bubbly warm water, not a vat of acid.
Sadly I don’t think all the hot tubs in the world would help you unclench.

Lovelyveg80 · 23/03/2023 10:44

@PurpleWisteria1 how sweet of you 😂

Lovelyveg80 · 23/03/2023 10:47

@MoroccanRoseHChurch you don’t actually have any children do you?

Oopsadaisysgranny · 23/03/2023 10:47

adamsaboutnothing · 23/03/2023 10:27

@Oopsadaisysgranny did they get their money back though? We didn't, we had to endure another stay which was almost as disastrous as the first Grin

Regardless of when the OP checked anything, the facilities were not up to standard so she has a right to complain. Asking for all the money back though probably won't work as the OP has stayed and used the accommodation which will now require cleaning. A partial refund maybe an option?

I don’t think so !!!! I seem to remember they went again . They went with a big group of friends

Movinghouseatlast · 23/03/2023 10:59

You should get a partial.refund for lack of hot tub. I assume they will fix this today for you and provide the cot.

On another note, I can't tell you how many people arrive at my holiday cottage with literally no food and ask where the nearest shop is. The answer is back the way you came a 20 minute drive. They will.literally have passed it! I don't understand why people don't shop on the way

Because we can't usually fit the food in car with all our shit! Otherwise I would had the food delivered before we even left the house.

Do you tell/remind them that, in massive red letters on all emails/website/documents?! You shouldn't need to, but it might save you a bit of bothering by guests!

FawnFrenchieMum · 23/03/2023 11:13

OP I think your getting a really hard time on here. I would have been really disappointed as well.

I am not sure you will get a full refund but I would certainly be asking for 50% back for the first night and maybe a late check out tomorrow so you can enjoy the stay for a little longer before having to leave.

How is it holey?
What she received was not what she paid for. Everything else is moot.

theworldhas · 23/03/2023 11:34

Obviously they need to refund you the £20 for the cot. On top of that I reckon a decent place would offer to refund you 50% of the cost of the room for those two issues, though many probably would refuse to refund that amount. See what they say.

CovertImage · 23/03/2023 11:36

The hotel manager at our wedding hotel told me UK travellers are generally considered the worst in the world because they go demanding refunds the minute they find something wrong.

That's a strange thing for a hotel manager to tell a member of a wedding party. Did you ask them specifically?

TheHoover · 23/03/2023 11:45

Did you ask them specifically?
can’t remember. We were chatting generally about American, European and other tourists. US tourists were the most demanding but they wanted things put right. European tourists were the angriest. But UK tourists were straight to ‘I want some money off’ at the slightest thing.

HoneyPotBee · 23/03/2023 11:54

Who do people expect something for free because a couple of things, that can be put right, go wrong?

I hope I never get so flustered about something that I post on MN instead of speaking to staff. You know the people whose job it is to sort out issues.

Newusername21 · 23/03/2023 11:56

I've stayed in a place with a hot tub and we were told that we would not be able to use it on the first night. Thats because it has to be cleaned and then takes ages to get up to temperature again.
Obvs a bit odd that your has no water in it - but I wouldn't have expected to be able to use it on the first night anyway.
Having no cot was obviously a pain - but it would of easily been solved if you'd raised that as soon as you arrived.
Hopefully you are now enjoying your break but i would think at most you should only be asking for partial refund of cot hire.

Rental places definitely don’t change the water between guests, unless an unspeakable bodily fluid has been deposited in the hot tub!

theworldhas · 23/03/2023 12:00

Could be but hardly applies here. No cot provided despite forking out for it. No water in bath. No one on reception to out things right. That’s seriously under par service imo rather than “bedside lamp bulb needs replacing” sort of thing

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/03/2023 12:05

I'm not a fan personally; but it seems to me that hot tubs are probably not ideally suited to multiple, regularly-changing users in a rental scenario.

If it's in your own back garden, you can plan ahead when to fill and clean it - and then at least you would be aware and could take remedial cleansing action if anybody using it had done a poo/DTD/had a verruca/invited Nigel Farage to join them in it.

Mondayblues23 · 23/03/2023 12:09

I'd be annoyed by this too and expect some money my back.

Not sure I'd have checked for the cot straight away and it's not relevant why you're only there one night. Things aren't as they should be. You're allowed to not be happy.

Mumsnet tends to always blame the poster 🤣🤣

neilyoungismyhero · 23/03/2023 12:11

Part of the reason for booking here I'm guessing was for hot tub use and the OP paid for a cot. It's crappy service end of..she didn't get what she paid for...people seem to have a very low bar over things like this. The hotel chains save money to amass their great profits by not having staff available for late night issues nowadays, it's really not good enough. I'd be asking for my money back too.

Mondayblues23 · 23/03/2023 12:11

Surprised nobody has suggested that the baby sleeps in the empty hot tub 🙄

Blimey, don't they?

I worked for a log cabin company a couple of summers ago.
We changed the hot tub water & gave the tub a good scrub-out between each guest. Every time. No exceptions.

Well I can assure you the place i stayed DID change the water and clean in between guests. It was a major lodge park in north wales. It was clearly stated in the terms of booking that it would not be suitable for use on the first night.
I'm really glad they did too - who would want to get in a hot tub after a stranger had shed their skin cells into it - let alone anything else!!!
