Travelled 2 hours to get away for 2 nights with the kids. Once we checked in I put everything down in the lodge and went to get some shopping and some food. By time we got back here it was late. No cot for DS and no water in the hot tub. I’ve stayed here numerous times and never had an issue so I just assumed was all ok.

their is no signal so I’m having to walk the kids down to the reception just to try and contact someone.

first time I’ve come anywhere on my own with the kids and it’s just all gone so wrong.

OP posts:

Which would make perfect sense if this was Saturday morning but I regret to inform you it is Thursday morning

Have you not heard of inset days?
I don't see the point in you trying to derail the thread with pointless info. So what if the OP took the kids out of school? What impact does that have on her original question? "You've taken your kids out of school so you aren't due any compensation?"

I have. We’ve one here today.

OP, none of the things imputed from your properties is your fault. None. It’s not your fault that you missed these until later. It is normal to expect your accommodation to have available, what you paid for.

Hope you get back a reasonable amount of refund.

PurpleWisteria1 · 23/03/2023 08:03

Maybe she took her kids out of school. Maybe her kids are younger than 5 and she was fine with them having a quick dip in the hot tub? So what?
Hot tubs are more than a Bath outside ffs. Geez some people. No running a bath in the lodge is in no way comparable. Like the difference between going out for a lovely meal and being expected to cook food at home yourself.
OP I would be really annoyed as the hot tub takes a while to fill and heat and yes- would want money back.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 23/03/2023 08:05

Well, this thread is a delight.

follyfoot37 · 23/03/2023 07:37

I wasn't judging her holiday choice, I was offering an alternative to a hot tub, and pointing out that they are infection risks, particularly communal ones or those used by many different people

  1. A bath is not the same as a hot tub, as any old idiot could tell you
  2. OP did not ask for hot tub alternatives, anyway
  3. Many things carry a small infection risk which we balance against living our lives (you may have learnt this in the last 3 years). E.g taking your kids to a public swimming pool
  4. OP did not raise anything about infection risk, anyway
  5. You were 100% judging, at least flipping own the snobbiness about hot tubs rather than denying it 😂
sarahh96 · 23/03/2023 08:12

Good god, what's the matter with you lot? Why can't you just stick to the point without bringing her parenting skills into it?
She's staying in a lodge which isn't up to standard, that's the topic!!!

Untitledsquatboulder · 23/03/2023 08:19

Well I'd be gutted and complain and want about 50% of my money back. So I don't think YABU at all.

follyfoot37 · 23/03/2023 08:19

@ShadowPuppets I know a bath is not the same as a hot tob (altho I am so short, a bath is a veritable swimming pool!) and OK, I own the loathing of hot tubs and the snobbiness they bring our in me
I apologise @Tryingmybestok

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/03/2023 08:24

No cot is obviously an error, but surely you would instantly notice it and want a cot immediately - in case the little one needed a nap before bedtime - so would you not instantly raise that, rather than just hoping they might 'remember' and maybe bring one to a room that they have given you as 'ready' at some point before your child needs it for the night? Just like you would do if there weren't the right number/sizes of standard beds according to your booking and needs.

The hot tub is trickier, though, as you wouldn't necessarily check its function on arrival. I suppose a lot of it morally hinges on whether it was the only/main/key reason why you went there in the first place, or just a nice extra - not that easy to prove one way or the other for either side, though.

I’m tall so baths are generally shit, I either have cold kneeled or cold shoulders. So everyone is different, a hot tub would mean I could submerge my full body.

Iyjd · 23/03/2023 08:25

I would feel the same OP. How long are you there for? I would expect a refund of how much time has been ruined, so if you are there for 3 nights I would expect 1/3 back. If they make you change houses/cabins I would ask for help because if you have children with you on your own this will be difficult and it stops you doing other things. You have not got what you have paid for so I would expect something back.

Justforlaffs · 23/03/2023 08:27

Missing the point but why would you drive 2 hours to stay alone for one night with young children in a holiday cottage?

I wouldn't expect a full refund for those things no, I'd expect them to sort it today and I'd stay the second night and ask for a partial refund or a free stay.

rwalker · 23/03/2023 08:28

Ask for Partial refund for hot tub I’m guessing even if they filled it they take a long time to get up to temp so wouldn’t of been a problem they could of rectified

the cot could of been sorted

ShandaLear · 23/03/2023 08:30

Go to reception. Tell them what’s happened. Give them the opportunity to fix it. Ask for discount since you didn’t have use of the two things your asked for. Check first you definitely asked for them. If they move you they move you. It will take half an hour max.

adamsaboutnothing · 23/03/2023 08:30

Sounds a lot like Tattershall Lakes. We had a similar incident when staying for the 2019/2020 NYE celebrations - no water in hot tub on arrival which would then take hours to warm up. Then the fridge broke - crucial when you're trying to keep the Champagne cold for NYE. Then...at 5pm on NYE, the power went out across the whole park. After a few hours of radio (one phone silence as there's no signal there either), we were told at 8pm that there would be no power; NYE was cancelled, and to leave the park. All good and well if you haven't already had a drink... So we saw in 2020 in a freezing lodge, drinking our beer supplies, in total darkness. In hindsight, it was a sign of things to come for 2020!

BUT, we didn't get our money back. There was uproar. Instead we were offered another 3 night stay. Which we finally got round to taking in November 2022. And when we got there this time, again no water in hot tubs and all the pubs were shut on site due to a private soul music event. So, that's me done with Tattershall and Away Resorts, they won't get another chance.

SaySomethingMan · 23/03/2023 08:33

*imputed? Omitted from your holiday accommodation

FrenchandSaunders · 23/03/2023 08:34

A lodge with a hot tub costs quite a bit more than one without, usually. So I would def complain about that. Even if they fill it this morning, it takes a while to heat etc.

Also ask for a cot for tonight.

And who gives a flying shit about strangers taking their kids out of school 🤷🏼‍♀️. We took ours out every year in primary …. at uni now.

Changingplace · 23/03/2023 08:34

Tryingmybestok · 23/03/2023 06:41

@Changingplace yes girl was at the desk when I checked. But by time I got back from shopping the reception was closed and to be fair I didn’t notice things were missing until later on the evening.

Tbh I’d be annoyed that there was nobody to speak to out of hours, no emergency contact number at reception - the hot tub is annoying but the cot is a real issue, hope you get sorted today but I’d add that it’s not acceptable not to be able to contact a member of staff.

Check in was 4 got here for about 5. I’ve not spoken to anyone yet reception is closed I’ve been walking down here just to get some signal.
we’re leaving early tomorrow morning so didn’t even get to enjoy the hot tub last night.

Tryingmybestok · Today 06:38
I got back from the shops around half 7 we ate some food. Kids wanted to go in the hot tub then we realised there was no water in it, then I went to put them to bed I realise they haven’t put DS cot in. It was just too late to sort anything out.

so you traveled 2 hours to get to the place you are staying for 2 nights
you have noticed there is no water in the hot tub and no cot - but you are leaving tomorrow - none of your posts make any sense.....

Octopusmittens · 23/03/2023 08:45

cavebaby · 23/03/2023 06:33

You won't be refunded all your money for two relatively minor issues. Hopefully they can be resolved quickly for you.

Hardly minor

What doesn't make sense?
They arrived at 5pm last night. Last night was night 1. They are leaving tomorrow morning, tonight would be night 2.
OP is saying they didn't have use of the hot tub last night, on night 1.

haha you were there the same time as my daughter and her partner!!!! Small world she was not happy

LIZS · 23/03/2023 08:58

You might get a credit for one night, assuming they put it right today. Lesson learnt, check accommodation meets your expectation on arrival.

Wisteriaroundthedoor · 23/03/2023 09:03

I don’t really understand this as a concept for a holiday, get there at 5, don’t bring food and have to go shopping, don’t notice no water in hot tub or no cot, and were planning to leave the next morning, as checkout clearly will be early, I guess we are all different but that sounds like a shite break.

Apalling read. Pick pick blame pick blame pick pick. What the fuck is wrong with people?

OP I'm sorry you're upset, rightly so. I hope you're able to get things sorted and get some enjoyment out of today. ❤️
