To demand all my money back?

Travelled 2 hours to get away for 2 nights with the kids. Once we checked in I put everything down in the lodge and went to get some shopping and some food. By time we got back here it was late. No cot for DS and no water in the hot tub. I’ve stayed here numerous times and never had an issue so I just assumed was all ok.

their is no signal so I’m having to walk the kids down to the reception just to try and contact someone.

first time I’ve come anywhere on my own with the kids and it’s just all gone so wrong.

OP posts:

What doesn't make sense?
They arrived at 5pm last night. Last night was night 1. They are leaving tomorrow morning, tonight would be night 2.
OP is saying they didn't have use of the hot tub last night, on night 1.

5pm isnt late
why not move to a room/lodge with a hot tub or get the one they have filled

Today 06:35 - Check in was 4 got here for about 5. I’ve not spoken to anyone yet reception is closed I’ve been walking down here just to get some signal.
Why go down to reception at 6.35am?

MarkWithaC · 23/03/2023 09:12

A lot of people here being spiteful twunts. You pay good money, you expect things to be in place and working. Or at least for there to be staff present to sort out things that are not in place and working.

I’d speak to reception in person, see what they say, and if no massive apology and at least partial refund is forthcoming, write to head office. And I wouldn’t accept money off or a free stay - I wouldn’t trust them not to fuck up again!

TheHoover · 23/03/2023 09:14

For me it’s all about wanting all her money back. this is the title of the thread and indicates that OP is thinking immediately about getting something ‘financial out of the situation rather than asking for human error to be rectified and wanting an apology.

i cannot believe the place is so poorly staffed that there is never anyone around for urgent issues like the cot. If this is usual why are you a frequent visitor.
Try your luck at a partial refund for one night without a hot tub if you must.

They arrived at 5pm and went straight to the supermarket. When they returned at 7:30pm and discovered the issues the reception was already closed. So how were they meant to move to a new lodge? I don't understand what you're failing to understand?

I don’t really understand this as a concept for a holiday, get there at 5, don’t bring food and have to go shopping, don’t notice no water in hot tub or no cot, and were planning to leave the next morning, as checkout clearly will be early, I guess we are all different but that sounds like a shite break.

This.

They weren't planning to leave the next morning. They were there for two nights. OP should have had Wednesday night with a cot and hot tub, Thursday night with a cot and hot tub and a day to do whatever, then leaving early Friday morning.

fruitbrewhaha · 23/03/2023 09:23

I think the cot and hot tub were critical to your enjoyment so I’d expect some refund. But why did you travel 2 hours to get there and then spend another 2 and a half hours to go shopping for a two night stay? If you’d been organised and brought some food along with you, you’d have had the evening in the lodge, would have noticed the missing cot and been able to do something about it. But of a cluster fuck.

we’re leaving early tomorrow morning so didn’t even get to enjoy the hot tub last night. I can imagine they’re going to offer us another one but then today is going to consist of me sorting this out and packing up and moving to another one. I’ve spent a lot of money and just doesn’t seem worth it now.

I don;t understand your holiday decisions at all.

Why would you shell out a load of dosh to arrive somewhere at 4pm, throw a strop about a missing cot, then leave early the next day?

MoroccanRoseHChurch · 23/03/2023 09:40

Am I the only person in the world who wouldn’t let DCs into a hot tub until they were 12? Surely the child who sleeps in a cot was not going in this hot tub?

I was once desperate for some relaxation at a holiday park and went out early to use the hot tub on site. Only for the DCs to follow me and just lean on the wall watching me mournfully while I tried to let the bubbles unclench me.

Adrelaxzz · 23/03/2023 09:42

londonrach · 23/03/2023 06:44

I arrived at hotels and not found cot in room...first thin g you check. Takes seconds and you let reception know. Cot arrives very quick you making this bigger than it is. Can't understand why you want out food shopping without checking the cot.

Aren't you perfect.

Anotherturnipforthebooks · 23/03/2023 09:44

This thread is even more ridiculous than the hotel with no electricity one.

Op, you're not unreasonable to be annoyed, especially about the cot, and you should get a partial refund.

Theamofm · 23/03/2023 09:52

Some people on here are so mean and judgemental. If I'd have booked a lodge with a working hot tub and asked for a cot I'd expect it! Lodges are expensive, and probably pay extra for a hot tub so I would definitely complain.

If the lodge is clean and other wise fine I don't think I'd cut my trip short but I would be annoyed!

I'd ask for them to fix the issues and if they can't fill the hot tub I'd want some money back for lack of enjoyment of your lodge. You've paid for it so should get it. People are saying it's not a big deal but it would be to me. People save for months to take short breaks and it should be all you expected it to be!

YANBU having read all your posts.

No cot. No water in the hot tub. No one in Reception which is closed. That's crap.

Of course it's crap, but why decide that 2 fixable things are so unmanageable that instead of making the best of your precious time away, you throw yourself into a sulk & spend the available time packing up to leave instead of enjoying yourself?

Badger1970 · 23/03/2023 10:06

We booked a "luxury" holiday in Cornwall last year, and paid nearly double the price for a hot tub (DH insisted, I hate them). When he went to use it, it was tepid and the jets not working. Turns out it was faulty, the engineer had already reported it and ordered parts but these didn't arrive during our stay. Holiday company denied all knowledge, even though the engineer came during our stay to explain what had happened...

We paid £1800, and our "compensation" was a hamper that consisted of a box of tea, bag of fudge and some biscuits Hmm and that took months to wring out of them. Try and make sure that you talk to someone about this before you leave OP, otherwise you'll face a hard battle over it. And take photos.

She isn't leaving early "the next day".

She is booked in for 2 NIGHTS, not 1

Lovelyveg80 · 23/03/2023 10:16

So you arrived at 5m
check in
Went to the shops got back 7.30pm

all with baby and young child in tow

sounds hectic. Why didn’t you throw in some food for first evening?

whattodo1975 · 23/03/2023 10:20

Apprecaite this isn't the point of the thread, but on these trips always do your shopping at home and transport with you. Doing "chores" once you arrive to your holiday destination is the worst.

wincywincyspider · 23/03/2023 10:21

@Taunterofwomen it won't let me quote your post, but the OP posted that update THIS morning. So leaving early tomorrow morning still means they'll have stayed the 2 nights.

Because then she'd be wasting time on her only full day having to go shopping instead of sorting it on the first night knowing it's then all done for the rest of the trip?
Because maybe OP came straight from work/school pick up and didn't want to leave food in the car all day packed that morning?
Maybe plenty of reasons. Why is any of it relevant? When you book and pay for a service you expect it to be there. It wasn't as described, so OP wants compensation.

Cheers wincy, but that makes even less sense (OP, not you!)

So why was OP unable to contact reception about the cot & hot tub on day 2?

She's either writing in a confusing way, or is withholding facts to highlight her martyrdom.

wincywincyspider · 23/03/2023 10:25

Where has she said she can't contact reception today? Her posts seem to indicate she was waiting for reception to open. But even if she gets in touch with them today she's still not had the benefit of a hot tub and cot, which she paid for, for half her trip.
No idea why I can't quote your post though, theres no three dots. Everyone else's has them!

adamsaboutnothing · 23/03/2023 10:27

@Oopsadaisysgranny did they get their money back though? We didn't, we had to endure another stay which was almost as disastrous as the first Grin

Regardless of when the OP checked anything, the facilities were not up to standard so she has a right to complain. Asking for all the money back though probably won't work as the OP has stayed and used the accommodation which will now require cleaning. A partial refund maybe an option?
