Randoms using my wheelie bin for their dog shit!

I'm fuming. Put my wheelie bin at the top of my driveway last night for collection today, it's fairly full so the top is slightly open. Just went out this morning (it hasn't been emptied yet) and noticed someone has placed two bags full of dog shit in my bin on top of my rubbish bags! AIBU or is this absolutely disgusting? I don't have a dog and I don't want dog shit in my bin.

I wouldn't personally do this but it's clear there is no harm from doing so. It's bagged poo that's going to emptied from the bin in a matter of hours.

Who cares?

This isn't sarcastic, but why? are they very close to your front door or in your back garden?

I can't imagine 'bin cleaning' is a very lucrative business. Is it the window cleaner who offers bin cleaning as an extra?

I also pay to have my bins cleaned-I live in a victorian semi and pass the bins to get in the house.

They get smelly and flies.

And people do open my gate, walk up and use my bin for their dog poo. I have had someone else's poo bag split in my bin.

I don't want ppl using my bins-collected fortnightly-for their shit!

You clearly missed the part where I said I'd only done it TWICE. Therefore, yes, my household general waste bins are full of his bagged poo....

Yes, I 100% agree my general waste bins are dirty, as are yours by the way. I don't waste headspace, money or cause environmental damage by obsessing over the cleanliness of my outdoor bins. Have them washed as much as you like, bacteria multiply and don't stay neatly tucked away in your tied up bags.
My rubbish is bagged, but.... It's a bin for christ sake. I have so many other things to stress about that a dirty bin really doesn't register on my list of things to give a shit about (pun intended).

I still pay for the use of the bins and it is up to me what I put in them. Bacteria in them is from my stuff, not random dog shit which is a lot worse than wrappers from food packaging and paper that's not clean enough to go in the recycling.
The smell of shit clings to the bin, food wrappers don't stink like shit or seep through the little environmentally friendly (ha ha) poo bags.

Opening your bin on a hot day to find some idiot has put a shit bag in and it has warmed up and stinks... no thanks.

WingingItSince1973 · 17/03/2023 14:27

I think it's disgusting too. I own a dog but have never used someone else's bin. In the hotter weather I wouldn't want that festering in a plastic bin for a few weeks. It's just laziness when they can walk and either bin it at home or a designated bin.

A smelly disgusting life by the sounds of it. No thanks.

Do you really think that the condition of someone's outside bin is an indication of their cleanliness and hygiene level as a whole??

Not necessarily, but I really hate the whole 'get a life' crew. Exactly the sort of people who justify living like slobs because their lives are far to full and interesting to bother with basic standards. A bin stinking of shit, is minging and I don't know many people who would tolerate it to be honest.

Everyone who's got dogs, cats and babies tolerates it.

I have had my bins cleaned by bin cleaning companies for at least 20 years - not the window cleaner (I don't see the connection here).

I remember my ex telling me it was a waste of money (£3 a month then). I remember we had a row about it, him saying it only took a few minutes with a mop and me asking him when he had ever ever done that. (Clue - the answer was never.) In winter I never seeemed to be around the empty bin in daylight in order to clean it anyway, so it got left until the summer. He didn't seem to think it mattered, as far as he was concerned all bins should stink because they're bins.

In the end I had to just announce that as I worked full time I thought I earned enough to justify a £3 a month extravagance and he reluctantly shut up. Well he almost shut up - he canvassed all his colleagues for their opinion and of course they all agreed with him (bell end).

This thread is bringing it all back to me - I wonder if he has his bins cleaned where he lives now?

Yes, definitely.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 17/03/2023 15:31

Shit draws rats, too. My concern for my bin is mostly aesthetic but I don't want flies and vermin getting any ideas, either.

As a pp said, the "get a life, shitty bins are fine" crowsd must have some interesting living conditions.

Fromwetome · 17/03/2023 15:36

What a clown post 🤡

Fromwetome · 17/03/2023 15:37

Fun fact, those are council bins not yours. People are always suprised that bins aren't your personal property they belong to the council

SpringHexagon · 17/03/2023 15:37

Right, but regardless of vendor, they are rented by and maintained by the resident, who has control over their use.

Do you think people who rent dwellings from the council should tolerate bags of dog shit tossed into their front rooms, just because they don't "own" the property?

KeHuyWinner · 17/03/2023 15:54

Classic MN thread. Outrage and an AIBU when the OP had no intention of considering anything other than she is absolutely correct so it wasn't an AIBU.

Extreme anger at an outside bin being used as a bin and suggestions that anyone who would not get frothy about this must be a dirty fucker who lives squalor. Quiet posters pointing out that the council may own the bin which will enrage OP and her rants about HER BIN OUTSIDE HER PROPERTY.

Never change MN 🤣.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 17/03/2023 15:26

😂 Even environmental health, when inspecting food premises, don't care about the cleanliness of the outside bin. They're only bothered that all the waste is contained within bins and therefore isn't attracting vermin.

Or perhaps the fact that the council owns the bin is a pedantic, nit-picky point which is irrelevant given bins are assigned to specific properties and are not intended for open public use. There are public bins everywhere, but these slobs who own dogs and have no regard for others' property (the bin isn't theirs either) with use the most pathetic points to justify their slobbish attitudes and total lack of regard for others.

I hope one of these owners who routinely abuse others' property in this way pick the wrong home owner one of these days and end up with it rubbed in their faces. No, you're not doing people a 'favour' by not leaving it for kids to tread in: it is YOUR dog's shit ergo your responsibility. Take it home. No one cares how you transport it: your dog, your problem.

Oh my PEARLS! So, so slobbish! Picking up their dog's poo and putting it in a bin. Maybe you should call the police OP 🙈

nicetoseetgesunsout · 17/03/2023 16:32

The 'A' in AIBU means it's a question but you seem to not want answers that don't agree with you.
I've done this very occasionally, probably twice in 10 years when my dog did a poo after we'd left the park or other place with bins.
You can't time your dog's poos. I don't take a bag with me when I walk my dog - other than poo bags obv. If 'non recyclable' bins are at the front of a property and looking full, they're due to be emptied. Always in a sealed dog poo bag so wouldn't cause any harm to the property owner's bin.

@DomesticShortHair - have a lovely weekend. Glad that you and your colleagues
agree what a bin is for!

TwoMonthsOff · 17/03/2023 16:35

It’s disgusting and of you hadn’t noticed it would have contaminated your recycling so people saying it’s just a bin it’s not a refuse bin it’s a recycling bin and I’d be livid

Why can't they pick it up and carry it home instead of soiling someone else's property.

People drop poo bags in bins. Poo bags split open. Homeowner unwittingly adds more garbage. Shit gets smeared around inside of bins. Homeowner has to clean bin or put up with flies and stench.

We're not all OK with shit smelling up our environment. Carry your dog waste home with you or find a public bin.

TwoMonthsOff · 17/03/2023 16:37

Sorry but I’m guilty of not reading properly I didn’t realise it was the normal rubbish bin

None of which explains why you don't just carry your shit bag home and dispose of it there.
