Weird things my body does....

IfYoureGonnaBreakMyHeart · 17/03/2023 07:59

Over the past few weeks I've started using a brush to apply powder to my face after foundation. Before I'd just use the pad that comes with the compact.
For some reason using the brush directly in the middle of my forehead creates a reaction that feels like pins being dragged down my head.
I remembered that I had a similar reaction when I had a facial last year that involves brushing something onto my skin.
Also when I eat anything super minty it makes my ears itch.
Anyone else's body do weird things?

If I cough at night, in the dark with my eyes closed, I see a flash of white light behind my eyelids.

Chocolate makes my husband sneeze ( all the more for me, then …. ).
Weirdly, FIL has the same problem , but DS hasn’t .
Guess my chocolate- addicted genes must have diluted the weirdness so it wasn’t handed on to him ! 🤣

Chocolate made my dad sneeze too.

Rubbing the roof of my mouth with my tongue makes me sneeze!

As a child I had an outie bellybutton (which went in as I grew up). On the end of it was a little spot which, if I touched or rubbed it, sent a shooting sensation down towards my vagina.

I have the same thing with my belly button! Mine's an innie though, but same sensation if I scratch it in a particular spot.

Gives me the shits in certain places. So for example if I'm in a place where I've needed the toilet before, the urge to go will happen again the next time I'm in that place. Definitely associative/psychological. And I have IBS. Always amazes me how strong the gut/brain link is. I only need to think "wow this would be a really bad time/place to need to shit" and lo and behold it happens.

I"m so glad to learn it's not just me this happens to! I don't go in them very often but for some reason this always happens in Bookshops for me! Which is obviously very annoying as you have to stop browsing then try and find the nearest loo ASAP! I have even left, gone to the loo, come back thinking I'll be fine and the same thing happens again. It's so weird!!

Tropicaliyes · 18/03/2023 03:48

Many of these reactions are explainable, like the pins and needles, electric feeling when startled/ shocked.. it’s a adrenaline reaction and linked to the flight or fight response. I also get this.

the belly button thing, first person I heard say about this was my little brother when he was like 6/7.. he randomly said when he puts his finger in his belly button he gets a weird funny tingly feeling in his privates😅, we all looked at him like it was strange but told him “well then don’t put your finger in there then 😂”.

some mentioned sneezing or coughing when cleaning ears with ear buds.. When I clean my right eat there is a certain point that if I touch it I get a tickling feeling in my throat, if I rub it to clean I choke and have a coughing fit.. only happens with my right ear though.

as a child my “party trick” would be to twist my wrists and ankles all the way round.. I initially thought it was normal, my elbows and knees also over extend. When I got older I found out I have a certain Hyper-mobile disorder or collagen disorder which caused it and now has caused a plethora of serious health issues😬🤦🏽‍♀️.

I also have the hives with water/sweat thing, but I also have Mast cell activation syndrome to blame.

there are many I cannot think of right now.

@Laiste my ds is the same with mint flavoured anything! He sneezes brushing his teeth!

My Mum's the same.

Vinegar does it to me

dudsville · 18/03/2023 04:13

When someone i care for describes a minor injury, a little cut or something, my legs get a tingly shiver in sympathy. Sounds like a few of us have something similar and it makes me think about early humans and how we learned compassion.

If someone kisses my neck or a cat or dog nuzzles me there i get a tongue spasm that lasts about a minute and i can't speak properly.

I also can shoot a super thin stream of saliva randomly, less so the older I get. Again, i wonder if this is linked to the post of our dna we might share with a venom spitting creature!

Javelin arse is a thing - and even has it’s own page on the NHS patient info website!!

patient.info/digestive-health/proctalgia-fugax-and-anal-pain-leaflet

Sometimes when I’m diving I get numb/pins & needles feelings in my fingers/thumbs; it doesn’t matter if it’s long or short journeys and it’s a really strange sensation, almost like when dental injections are wearing off and your feeling is coming back to your cheeks.

I am not ticklish - to the extent that it’s physically painful when people tickle me - but I have one area on my abdomen that, I’d I’m sexually aroused, becomes incredibly ticklish.

I always sneeze in pairs; DH can sneeze up to 50 times in a row at times - sometimes it’s worse than others and it’s not always related to dusting/cleaning of different foods!!

666roses · 17/03/2023 17:37

I sometimes pass out when I have a poo

Another known phenomena - look up vaso vagal attacks - a lot of older people have them while sat on the toilet!!

MoonlightMemories · 18/03/2023 04:52

I have a funny thing happen when I eat (I find it easier to chew them than swallow them) an antihistamine tablet - it always makes me sneeze, every singlr time. Then no further symptoms afterwards. I have always found it quite ironic.

And probably some strange nerve thing, but if I'm in the shower and the water hits my head in a certain place, it makes that whole side of my head/face/neck/teeth/mouth/ body tingle and feel very peculiar when I touch it or more water hits it for a short while afterwards! The thing I can most likely it to is that sensation when you hit your funny bone in your elbow, but much longer lasting and more tickley.

BingoBang · 18/03/2023 06:03

I get a weird bubble sensation up the back of my neck almost along my spine, from my shoulders into the base of my skull. Like 5 or 6 bubbles popping, moving upwards as they go. Only occasionally but it's very odd.

If I eat a hob nob biscuit I get an itchy feeling in my mouth and throat. It doesn't happen when I eat anything else and Im not coeliac.

I have the same issue with hob nobs and some other biscuits (e.g. Rich Tea if I haven't dunked them). In my case I think it's the crumbly texture causing the sensation.

if I get something in my eye is makes a really loud noise in my ears, does anyone else get this as I thought everyone did until I mentioned it to my family 😅

there is also a small section of my back to the side, that when touched by someone else makes me flinch. It’s as if that’s where all my nerve endings are…

I've been trying to explain this for years! I also get the eye noise when I'm really tired and I shut my eyes.

FloraGreysteel · 18/03/2023 06:49

Mint makes me sneeze. Big sneezes too, not little chuffing ones.

If I have trapped wind, I get a terrible pain in my shoulder. No idea what that’s about.

if I feel anxious or get a sudden fright, my vision goes all shaky.

No way!! I get this too!

Yorkshirelass04 · 18/03/2023 09:37

The sneezing reaction people are describing with red wine and chocolate is to do with histamine sensitivity. Mystery solved!

I also have this. It was recently caught twice on a 24 hour heart monitor as sudden bradycardia and I’d never thought to speak to a doctor about it before because I’ve had it since I was a child. I have autonomic dysfunction, so my body does all sorts of strange things anyway and I am very sensitive to anything that affects the vagus nerve. According to the cardiologist, it’s caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure in response to the bowel movement’s effect on the vagus nerve. I have Postural Tachycardia and low blood volume, so I assume that plays a part in my case as well.

There’s no treatment for it and it’s not something they worry about, because it’s self resolving.

It used to frighten me as a child, but I’m used to it after having it for decades now. It tends to be worse if I am, exhausted, under the weather or coming down with a virus. In fact it happened this morning and coincidentally, I’ve been in bed with a virus for a couple of days.

I used to have a big list of bizarre things my body did, but once I was diagnosed, most of them were explained by the autonomic dysfunction.

I only mentioned it here as it happened yesterday morning and yes I'm unwell at the moment, I have auto immune problems, but I feel when I'm about to pass out so lay down quickly, but I feel awful for a couple of hours after then totally fine as nothing has happened.

If something happens that scare me (as in a near miss etc) I get this weird sensation in my arms and hand almost like pins and needles.

Me too

Warriormum1 · 18/03/2023 10:41

@RemoteControlDoobry I had the thing since I was a child too. It was way worse when I was younger but I still get it now.

When I have an itch it often takes me ages to work out where it’s coming from. So I think I have an itchy chin, scratch it but no - now the itch is in my scalp. Than my ear. Then my thigh and finally I locate the actual itchy spot and once it’s scratched the itch goes away like for a normal person.

I’ve never known anyone else the happens to!

Yes I get this and it's so frustrating

Greengagesnfennel · 18/03/2023 10:52

Sudden changes in temperature give me sneezing fits

IchWill · 18/03/2023 12:13

Mine are:

If I'm at great height, or see a video of someone at a very big height, or even if I'm thinking of it, the back of my knees and my calves get a pins and needles / twanging sensation.

If I eat mustard or wasabi (but nothing else that's hot), I get shooting pains over my scalp.

If I eat other spicy foods, my ear canals have a burning sensation.

Fanny has a random blowing bubbles sensation. (Can't believe I'm sharing that!
