Schoolgirl kicked in head by boy in unisex toilets- is the idea of unisex unworkable?

A boy in a school toilets in Coventry has kicked in a door in in an attempt to photograph a 13 yr old girl and she has received head injuries.
When unisex toilets were introduced we were told they would be closely monitored but that is clearly ineffective and they are unsafe for girls.
Do you think they should be abolished?

Yabu Allow them
Yanbu Abolish them.

Or not putting your chickens in a coup overnight because foxes can dig.

Yes, both of these. It stumps me why the ideologists still stick to using such immature arguments like these. I mean, on some level, they must know how childish and batshit they sound. They must know.

It's just bizarre that Schools are choosing to remove safeguarding which protects girls. They are making a conscious choice to make girls less safe. There's innumerable reports of girls feeling unsafe, being assaulted and withholding liquids in order not to use mixed sex toilets. For every 'in our School, it's not a problem' (really? It'd be interesting to see if your pupils agree), there's many other schools where it is a problem.

Why is the safety and dignity of girls being so disregarded?

mixed facilities are the problem. I’ve had a man indecently expose himself to me in a mixed “changing village”

We don’t need these facilities. Women are being thrown under a bus once again to facilitate men, many of whom are sexually motivated.

There in nothing wrong with women’s facilities for adult human females - ie people who don’t have or ever had a dick

Mens toilets for everyone else

never had any issues

That you know of. How many girls who self-exclude and refuse liquids so they don't have to go all day that you know of? That's right, you wouldn't know. And they wouldn't tell you, especially in these days where a girl or woman says anything, she will get death threats and rape threats and threats of violence, and risk being ostracised. 'oh we never/don't have any issues.' FFS. 🤦 Of course you do. Ignorance of the issues and the discomfort of girls doesn't mean there aren't any.

We catagorically don't have issues as the toilets are staffed. Grafitti on the doors and pupils trying to vape is the extent of any problematic behaviour.

And does every single one of those girls using those toilets (and not using those toilets) feel safe and happy - because if not, you have a major problem

How on earth can schools afford to fund staff to guard the toilets?

Answer: they fucking can't.

You're ignoring how the girls feel. Do I have to repeat it all? No girl feels comfortable with unisex toilets. They will risk a UTI than use them. I can promise you, no girl is happy with the toilet situation at that school.

Girls are second class citizens in 2023, at school.

Fucking disgusting.

Anyone who enables this or who says it is not a problem should be ashamed of themselves.

There were a small number of girls(and boys) that wanted gender specific toilets so we provided one of each and the rest are gender neutral. The gender neutral ones are used just as much as the two gender specific ones. We do regular pupil consulations around a whole host of things and the toilets have never been raised as an issue.

Women and girls need single-sex facilities. Additional unisex facilities are fine if it's a loo in a self-contained room, floor-to-ceiling, with its own sink. I don't agree with unisex facilities being cubicles with gaps under and above the doors. What happened to this poor girl is simply horrific.

This ^^

That’s probably because they’ll be called transphobic if they do say anything. Because that is the created culture. Does any one of those pupils who wanted single sex spaces have to go out if their way? Is there a single ex toilet next to every mixed sex one?

why don’t you have just single sex toilets? Why did you want mixed sex toilets?

Do you allow transgirls/male-non-binary students in the girls-only loos, CMO?

Or are they actually single-sex, so that girls and transboys can sort out periods without any transgirls/male-non-binary students present?

Sex really isn't the same as gender. Gender is words and culture.

The fact a boy committed this offence is not due to the toilets, it's due to his bad behaviour - he could have gone into a girl's toilet and done the same thing, he obviously doesn't mind breaking rules!

The issue of privacy is valid but as someone who was kicked in a girls toilet (by a girl) I am not sure crime is reduced by same sex, in fact bullying is worse. Best arrangement is full cubicles sell contained straight onto the corridor

I thought NAMALT would be at least a page in, not the first response.

I just don't understand why all the toilet facilities are being changed - I admit I was at school a long time ago but there were only EVER single sex facilties.

Why is this being changed to pander to the feelings of an extreme minority, and putting basically 50% of the population at a disadvantage?

I don't get it 😕
