To think Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t have a ‘wellness routine’

Basketballqueen · 15/03/2023 09:29

She has an eating disorder?

she’s given an interview saying her ‘wellness’ typical day consists of an early Palo dinner of vegetables then a fast til noon the next day ( with coffee only in the morning) when she has bone broth. Repeat.
she then takes IV drips for the nutrients that she’s essentially NOT getting from food, as she’s barely eating.

HOW is this wellness - it’s a starvation routine. How is this in a wellness podcast?

@TooBigForMyBoots That sounds amazing. I have some beef bone broth in the fridge so will try that for breakfast tomorrow!

No, it's not chicken stock. Bone broth is simmered anywhere between 24-36 hours. It's far more concentrated than stock and when cold, turns into a jelly. It also tastes different to stock too. There's a lot of misconceptions about bone broth and it being the same as stock is one of them.

On occasion I do a bone broth fast, but no, I eat other food.

I think all chicken stock turns into jelly in the fridge.

Cheesuswithallama · 15/03/2023 13:34

I have to stand up for bone broth which is not just flavoured water, but nutritionally really great thing.

BUT not in that "diet"!

LivesinLondon2000 · 15/03/2023 13:36

Her diet might be sufficient for a post menopausal women who is very sedentary and anxious not to put on weight. I do know a couple of ladies in their 60s who only eat one meal a day (with carbs though) and they are very slim though also look look healthy.
But it would be dangerous for a young woman to follow and would almost certainly lead to infertility I think.
The needing vitamins by IV to compensate for a poor diet is seriously weird though

Ok...

@CertainUncertain No, not all does.

Bone broth is a stock, but not stock. This sounds more confusing than it need be. Bone broth contains protein, collagen, electrolytes, vitamins, stock far less so because it is only cooked for a few hours.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 15/03/2023 13:42

My dog loves bone broth. Especially made with beef bones and marrow included. She is just about willing to share with DH.

GP does come across as pro ana for grown ups. But that is what sells.

People were thin in the 30's because most of the population only had access to just enough food. The combination of UPF and the hugely profitable diet industry has destroyed the lives of many women. I did a few years in geriatric eating disorders, oh boy the starve binge cycles, without any regard to health, were horrific. Unfortunately many weight loss threads on M follow the same ethic.

Shekissedagirlandshelikedit · 15/03/2023 13:57

Having some first hand experience of anorexia, I can see it in her face and particularly in her eyes. It's a horrific illness and sufferers justify how much (little) they eat as par for the course. They just cannot see that they have a problem.
Her face actually reminds me of how Karen Carpenter looked in some videos when she was very ill.

I really feel for those around her who are probably worried sick. I hope she's at least maintaining her weight and not trying to lose more.

Right, but I make what I would call chicken stock, which I use for soups or stews or sauces- A whole chicken, or a couple of carcasses, if I have them in the freezer, a few extra wings, carrot, onion, leek, parsley, celery, a parsnip, some whole peppercorns and water - I might cook it for anywhere from 3-6 hours depending on how much time I have, but basically just until it tastes good with a little salt added, it's not really bone broth, but still turns to jelly in the fridge.

MysteryBelle · 15/03/2023 14:01

She gets weirder by the day.

bellac11 · 15/03/2023 14:04

I wish they did sell proper bone broth in the supermarkets. I think they do in america. Its full of protein and I have cooked it once but I cant honestly be bothered.

Someone mentioned a slow cooker but anytime Ive cooked meat on the bone in our slow cooker it just crumbles bone into the dish/stew or whatever, repulsive.

megletthesecond · 15/03/2023 14:05

That regime is nuts and not doing her any good in the long term.

And I speak as a wanky person who actually likes eating kale.

You need to run it through muslin cloth after. I make my own.
My goal is that crumble. But I gotta say that not even chicken bones crumble for me in 6 hours you would normally cook stew.
I do my broth close to 24 hours.

Your bones dont crumble in a slow cooker?

I honestly think there is something wrong with our slow cooker

Ive had chicken bones and lamb chop bones crumble when using it.

Horrible

Alltheproductsnoidea · 15/03/2023 14:13

Waitrose sells bone marrow if that's helpful to anyone

crazyaboutcats · 15/03/2023 14:13

A huge amount of the wellness, influencer and life coach industries are all about losing weight. A lot have and promote eating disorders, some have later admitted this.

It's not just her but she does seem to be both the most extreme and mainstream

TheDogthatDug · 15/03/2023 14:16

She's been spouting bollocks for years. She probably gets injections derived from testicles. Vacuous woman.

Well she may well be menopausal or post menopausal at her age

And speaking as someone who only ever had one attribute which was my good skin on my face (terrible skin everywhere else, really thin and prone to stretch marks), in the couple of years since I went into peri menopause my face looks like someone elses. Its quite shocking, tired, droopy, Ive aged a couple of decades it looks like

I have no idea about her, Im not really on social media so dont have access to all these images of people but I do feel a bit sensitive about all these people saying how awful she looks when you dont really know what her actual issues (if any) are. Its bad enough being at this stage of life and seeing your face slip away before you due to hormonal changes, let alone people thinking you're ill because of it.

MysteryBelle · 15/03/2023 14:18

Her skin looks like dry crackly paper, her hair looks the same, wouldn’t take advice from her on any subject.

Not in less than 10 hours. I cook duck, beef, lamb etc in it and no. That's interesting

Now I know the Apple Big Brother is spying on me… Boy was this perfectly timed. Popped into my FB feed.

that is just brilliant 😂
totally sums up what a lot of vacuous nonsense it all is

I dont think theres anything particularly unusual about this in show biz circles, my mum and her family used to talk about my aunts who in the 30s were on the stage, dancers on a chorus line and they were encouraged to just eat apples and drink cabbage water (cabbage water is really nice by the way, my mum used to get that down me as a child, very nutritious)

And these were just poor girls who grew up in London, I dread to think what it was like if you were properly famous in those days.

Cabbage water is not nutritious, not in a complete sense.Where are the healthy carbs, protein and fats that the body needs?

AdventFridgeOfShame · 15/03/2023 14:26

Perfect @Fraaahnces
