Because he was speaking the truth and he is entitled to, without being censored.

I am delighted to see the number of other sports commentators supporting him.

Now lets see Davie resign

So they reported the deletion - no actual request from the BBC to remove it?

Surely, that's down to how quickly Lord Sugar acted and/or they were satisfied with the outcome. Also, we don't know if the BBC contacted him privately.

bellac11 · 12/03/2023 14:53

GL didnt tweet anything offfensive though so why would he have to remove it

TrishM80 · 12/03/2023 14:53

Does anyone seriously believe Lineker would have been taken off the air by the BBC if he had tweeted "this new govt immigration policy is fantastic, I applaud Suella Braverman!"?

Of course not! So it's not about "impartiality", it's punishment for voicing an opinion critical of the Tory Govt.

Putin's Russia vibes.

*Or he’s using his position of wealth and influence to actually stand up for people who can’t stand up for themselves.

If you or I call the government out, maybe 10 people will listen. If someone with influence calls them out hundreds of thousands will listen. He’s rich enough already that if the BBC sack him over this he won’t be affected.

Well done Gary for calling out the atrocities our government is pushing through.*

Yeah, multi millionaire Saint Gary pretending he's a socialist and pro distribution of wealth...it's laughable 🙄. It's extremely easy to sit in your west London mansion, advocating popular political opinions when you know the outcome will have no chance in hell of ever affecting you and your elite gated community.

Exactly. He's an entitled luviee who's lost the run of himself

If he had tweeted, 'I applaud 1930s Germany' he definitely would have been taken off air though.

Tories hate it when people succeed.🙄

SunsetsInVenice · 12/03/2023 15:12

Why do you assume that anyone who disagrees is a Tory? Rather than just someone who has a different opinion to you ?
Some seem to demonise everyone who isn't on the left, it's ridiculous.
Anyone who is not in favour of Gary Lineker is deemed as a racist Tory. Truly insane.

nothing to do with being in favour of Gary Lineker or not, this is about his right to free speech

Yet anyone who disagrees is called racist or right wing. This isn't exclusive to just this forum either. I have seen it on other platforms.
The left are seen as the more morally superior where they are right and everyone else is wrong. It is shutting down some very important and much needed discussion.
Shouting 'Tory scum' or even assuming they vote for this party based on their concerns is just stupid.

This is some kind of satire right? I ask because I recognise your username as I answered this question 3 times for you on a different thread.

Absolutely ignorant comments showing your lack of awareness of the asylum system. Your “strongly suspect” is meaningless as you have no evidence. In fact, any available evidence completely contradicts what you’re saying. But here you are again.

But once more. The majority are men as the journey is physically too hard for women and children and the risks on the route include rape, kidnap and trafficking. Do you think women and children should be subjected to that? Families can often only afford to send one person, so have to send the one most likely to survive the journey. It’s that simple.

Is it fun to ignore information? Is it fun to stay ignorant? I don’t get it.

Who called you a racist on this thread @SunsetsInVenice?Shock

SunsetsInVenice · 12/03/2023 15:35

Not on this thread I don't think but have been called it many a time on other threads. All because I disagreed with the OP on their views. Generally it seems to be the go to comment to make whenever anyone expresses a concern about immigration.

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/03/2023 15:47

I hope you took it up with that poster @SunsetsInVenice. In the meantime stop accusing posters on other threads.Hmm

For those who who don’t support the govt’s Illegal Migration Bill, Best for Britain have set up a petition if anyone would like to sign and show their solidarity against such legislation. www.bestforbritain.org/stop-anti-asylum-bill?utm_campaign=20230312_lineker_advan&utm_medium=email&utm_source=b4b

But GL didn’t mention the holocaust in his original tweet

DuncinToffee · 12/03/2023 18:08

There are plenty of people who don't agree with GL, that's not a reason for him to delete his tweet.

Unless you want censorship?

But GL didn’t mention the holocaust in his original tweet

I think because how it ended, people concentrate on that and not on which groups were considered subhuman at that time and things like plans to remove aka kill and/or move to Ural large percentage of population Slavs and Jewish from nearby countries around the time GL referenced.
Subhumans were Jews, Slavs, mixed race, roma, disabled, homosexuals, anti government groups etc.
They at one point planned to get rid of half of nearby slavs alongside jews in holocaust. But we (slavs) were good slave material apparently so I guess that "helped" us at the end and Jews sadly got the brunt of it....

So talking about dehumanisation and subhumans and the language in 30s-early 40s practically, all the above groups should be able to voice opinions as well. The times were terrible and whole villages were burned and bar the very few who were deemed good enough to be germanised(children), everyone was murdered either there or in camps.

Odd that the same Labour MPs/former Labour MPs defending Gary Lineker's on twitter today asked Lord Sugar to delete his tweet:

"I just make this appeal to [Lord Sugar]. Please delete and disown it."

"The use of Hitler/ Nazi comparators is demeaning, unwarranted and dangerous... Withdraw this and apologise please."

Gary Lineker's free speech

cakeorwine · 12/03/2023 19:02

And many people didn't.

But well done you on your research.

And your comments about Hitler.

This is about the use of language. Othering, dehumanising language

You can see the difference?

Or are people never allowed to call out such language?

cakeorwine · 12/03/2023 19:07

Calling people racist who oppose immigration doesn't change minds.
Nor does calling people "losers" either who have a different point of view.

This is so ironic.

Can you really not see the difference of those tweets or are you choosing not to see it?
