You've had to go back 20 years for that? That really is an admission of defeat on your part

No it's not. My article was from June 2003 - Greg Dyke left the BBC in January 2004 and yet he is quoted up thread.

itsgettingweird · 11/03/2023 15:02

Disappointing that Labour are sitting on the fence on this and not backing GL. He really did not go too far.

KS isn't.

He made a simple but effective statement on sky news. It was spot on.

itsgettingweird · 11/03/2023 15:05

Yes, particularly as this is the second time in as many weeks that an argument the Tories created has overshadowed a deal that Sunak has negotiated and wants to be seen as an achievement. They could've been selling him to the electorate as a practical bloke getting things done, the grown up in the room etc. Instead they chose, well, this.

That's so true!!!

No one else needs to create a headline - they are creating their own negative press better than any journalist could!

I think the in fighting and scramble to be noticed would be funny if it didn't negatively impact so many lives in abhorrent ways.

Indeed, it was your link that I first followed.

What I see is the UKs next Prime Minister warning the BBC not to piss about.

Lineker is clear that his contract does not incorporate the social media guidelines.

Not mentioned here;

October 2022
Gary Lineker and Twitter
In the ECU’s judgement Mr Lineker, though not involved in BBC journalism, therefore falls into the category of those for whom there is an “additional responsibility” as set out in the Guidance.
Complaint Upheld

I wouldn't notice either.
But 100% I defend his right to speak his mind outside of his day job.

I actually agree with his opinion, but he can't have it both ways - if he wants to enjoy the ludicrous wages the BBC see fit to bestow on him, he has to abide by the terms of his contract.

Can you share a copy of his contract? I assume it is freely available as so many people have seen it.

IClaudine · 11/03/2023 15:19

Hmm. Not as strong as I would like, but fair enough!

Happier than ever that I don’t pay the TV license fee but watch an abundance of live TV channels including ITV and Channel 4.

Fuck you BBC. I hope the letters you have sent me for years and which go straight to recycling cost you lots of money.

You are happy that you break the law?

Just saw this on Twitter, debunking Braverman’s lies, and pointing out the Tories’ attempts to create a minority they can demonise to win votes at a general election they cannot win on domestic policy.

It’s awesome.

All employees are contractually obliged to follow those guidelines.

I used that link last night actually. To complain about Fiona Bruce condoning domestic violence. Live on a flagship BBC current affairs show. Not in her spare time.

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 11/03/2023 15:59

We really need a thread rule that anyone talking about what Lineker's contract requires of him has to provide us with a copy.

If the government will break laws, and the BBC won’t allow them to be questioned, then yes I am happy too.

I fully agree with him but did he really say Britain sacrificed more lives than anyone else? Russia lost 27 million lives fighting Nazi Germany, whilst Britain lost 870,000 lives. We wouldn’t have on without Russia.

IClaudine · 11/03/2023 16:04

PlateBilledDuckyPerson · 11/03/2023 15:57

All employees are contractually obliged to follow those guidelines.

Is that what is says in Linekar's contract? How come Andrew Neil, Alan Sugar and others don't seem to be held to those guidelines? They must have a get put clause in their contracts, maybe Gary has too.

None of us know if Gary broke his contract, because none of us know what is in his contract.

People should be free to speak out against evil, whatever their contract of employment says, IMHO.

IClaudine · 11/03/2023 16:04

Get out clause.

The 27 million figure refers to the USSR, not Russia. I completely agree with you about the need to be accurate here, but given recent events it's particularly important we credit the contributions made by the other fourteen Soviet republics.

Adelant · 11/03/2023 16:18

Agreed, meant Soviet Union, sorry.
