To applaud Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright, and think Suella Braverman is looking like a fool for not even understanding the comment

1000 replies

Nimbostratus100 · 10/03/2023 19:44

Lineker called the immigration policy cruel, and compared the language and attitude of the government to 1930s Germany.

I hundred percent agree with him

Braverman started denying that anything that is happening in UK is comparable to the holocaust

She is spectacularly missing the point. The holocaust didn't happen in the 1930s

What happened in the 1930s was the slow and steady build up of racism and aggression and hate, that resulted in the holocaust in the 1940s

And the noises coming out of the government are very much like 1930s nazis

For those of you that don't have any interest in Match of the Day, Gary Lineker, the main presenter, has been suspended, in spite of being a sports commentator, and NOT a news reader or involved in current affairs programming, and NOT bound by the impartiality clause, and his two top fellow presenters have refused to appear without him

So either the BBC bosses (tory appointees) have scored a spectacular own goal,(unintended pun) in trying to supress Lineker's opinions, and turning them into world wide headlines,

OR!

Maybe they are secretly working against the government by choosing a course of action that will actually make the tories look like complete fools, while pretending to support them!

I really do not think it will. It's stuff like this that loses elections for Labour.

Really? You seriously think elections are won by parties supporting suppression of freedom of speech? It seems Lineker was even more accurate than l thought.

No because weirdly a lot of people are okay with refugees, when they’re women and children, and not at all xenophobic. Strange isn’t it? Like we’re actually quite a caring country we just don’t want unchecked men from patriarchal cultures to enter the country as a ‘right’.

As for ‘safe routes’:

By ‘safe and legal’ route, we mean the formal sanction by the UK of journeys to the UK – e.g. where a visa is granted or available for the journey or the person is permitted to travel to the UK without a visa. A journey under any other circumstances is not by a safe and legal route. However, this does not mean the journey is either unlawful or unsafe, though its being made in circumstances that are not formally sanctioned gives rise to significant risks of exploitation, abuse and other harm. As regards lawfulness of journeys that are not by safe and legal routes, we note there is no requirement in international law that a claim for asylum be made in any particular country and a refugee may legitimately cross multiple borders in order to reach the place where she, he or they seek asylum

So - do explain if I’ve misunderstood - the proposed ‘safe route’ is giving a British visa to anyone who asks for one, for any reason, as long as they claim to be a refugee?

No to

They have to pass criteria.

Currently more than 80% of those crossing the channel.in small boats are approved as genuine refugees and granted asylum.

You might like to believe cropped photos and lies but the truth is most of these people are desperate and they deserve sage routes to apply for asylum.

Judging by your replies I don't expect you to ever understand or care. I guess I'm replying to inform bystanders with humanity.

Ahhhh ‘treat people with humanity’ the ‘Brexit means Brexit’ of this argument.

How am I suggesting we dont treat people with humanity?

And why does nobody ever answer my posts about my concern over unchecked men from very patriarchal countries turning up and what this means for women here?

Of the people who Labour need to vote for them to win an election, Lineker gets up the noses of more of them than he appeals to. The people who Lineker appeals to generally live in very safe Labour seats. He is not popular at all in blue-collar working-class areas that Labour used to win easily in but now struggle.

Oh wow. So much bigotry in one post.

Also, why is it mostly women who are the ones that support mass immigration of mostly military aged men? if a woman supports open borders and then is getting raped by a man who just so happens to be an immigrant then why should I or any western man protect her?

I am speechless at this.

Yep, can’t imagine why anyone thinks this guy is either an incel or a racist. Total mystery 🤷‍♀️

Moonicorn · 11/03/2023 01:42

Also, Lineker pocketed £1.6 million from Qatar’s state media.

Hypocrite much?

Vanderlayinfustries · 11/03/2023 01:42

I don’t think the tories are ‘very right wing’, but that will go down like a lead balloon here

Lineker openly opposed quatar. On air. On the BBC. Politically. And he was allowed to.

Thanks for bringing that up.

Meanwhile Alan Sugar openly opposes Labour, unions and literally tweeted that we must vote Boris.

Still does the Apprentice on BBC.

No suspension

why

He did, and then pocketed the £1.6 million 🤷🏼‍♀️You’d thinking someone of such strong conviction would turn it down, wouldn’t you?

Really? There’s been a scientific poll of approval for Lineker broken down by parliamentary constituency? Can I have a link to it, please?

There's no poll. It's just my opinion. It will go the same way as Brexit. And the same people will be up in arms afterwards saying "How can people be so STUPID?", and then they'll do the same thing again, and again, and again. And somehow they're unable to figure out why they keep losing.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 11/03/2023 01:53

meet you back here in 2024 and we'll find out.

I really cannot believe the outrageous way that the BBC behaved in suspending @Gary Lineker
Few things piss me off😪 and horrify me But this has. I support him and his opinions.
I really have no words.
Are we really human beings??
Fuck the Tories and the BBC

So many posters on here seem utterly detached from the real world don’t they! They seem genuinely amazed that after 13(?) years of Tory government and Brexit, the public aren’t seeing and appreciating Lineker for the rich white Left Wing icon that he is 😆

BewareTheLibrarians · 11/03/2023 01:59

Moonicorn · 11/03/2023 01:25

My proposal are for collection points to be set up just outside of the countries of concern, primarily Afghanistan. That way women and children don’t have to make such long journeys across Europe. We would give proper information about what support they can expect here, and they could make an informed decision about whether they want to apply. If they do, their claims would be processed quickly and they would be brought here 🤷🏼‍♀️

(With kindness) How is that different to the scheme I mentioned in the first post of mine that I asked you to read? 😉

As you very correctly also said, the government could do this now, and potentially more cheaply than the Rwanda scheme and French detention scheme. Why don’t they?

They know this new plan won’t work. This isn’t even the first time they’ve paid France for detention centers or border security and it hasn’t worked any of those multiple times. And despite that, they’re spending more money this time. Money that would be better put to use in the UK, desperately needed by lots of communities. So, I agree with your question. And I’d add in, why do they choose policies that actively harm women and children? Whether it’s a lack of safe routes, meaning women and children are left in war zones and under the Taliban, or (the new bill’s) refusal to protect victims of modern slavery (which will include women trafficked to work in forced prostitution).

Might be worth asking your MP brocade I have no clue why they’re choosing to do this.

Moonicorn · 11/03/2023 02:00

@BewareTheLibrarians I don’t know why they don’t, I’m not a Tory voter nor mouthpiece 🤷🏼‍♀️

Moonicorn · 11/03/2023 02:01

It wouldn’t solve the boat issue anyway as men told they can’t apply for asylum in the U.K. would then try to enter illegally, again 🤷🏼‍♀️

Vanderlayinfustries · 11/03/2023 02:03
