To applaud Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright, and think Suella Braverman is looking like a fool for not even understanding the comment

1000 replies

Nimbostratus100 · 10/03/2023 19:44

Lineker called the immigration policy cruel, and compared the language and attitude of the government to 1930s Germany.

I hundred percent agree with him

Braverman started denying that anything that is happening in UK is comparable to the holocaust

She is spectacularly missing the point. The holocaust didn't happen in the 1930s

What happened in the 1930s was the slow and steady build up of racism and aggression and hate, that resulted in the holocaust in the 1940s

And the noises coming out of the government are very much like 1930s nazis

For those of you that don't have any interest in Match of the Day, Gary Lineker, the main presenter, has been suspended, in spite of being a sports commentator, and NOT a news reader or involved in current affairs programming, and NOT bound by the impartiality clause, and his two top fellow presenters have refused to appear without him

So either the BBC bosses (tory appointees) have scored a spectacular own goal,(unintended pun) in trying to supress Lineker's opinions, and turning them into world wide headlines,

OR!

Maybe they are secretly working against the government by choosing a course of action that will actually make the tories look like complete fools, while pretending to support them!

And why does nobody ever answer my posts about my concern over unchecked men from very patriarchal countries turning up and what this means for women here?

It’s an important point to address, but not one that can be addressed by making assumptions about entire groups of people based on perceptions of a country that people don’t understand. Men who have left Afghanistan and Iran for eg include those who were fighting for women’s rights in their country. (I wouldn’t imagine it’s all of them, as no doubt someone will come on and tell me I said) but there’s a big difference between being from a patriarchal country and supporting those views to the extreme.

There are also numbers of LGBTQ asylum seekers who would be literally executed for their sexuality.

And for men who are patriarchal and don’t understand British society and women’s rights and safety, they need educating and the consequences of sexual assault, rape and harassment made incredibly clear. But the government won’t put money into this, even though it would benefit communities. Why would they? It doesn’t earn them any money.

And “unchecked men” winds me up, sorry. The British man on the train next to me could have murdered his girlfriend and got away with it on a “she liked rough sex!” technicality. The British ticket inspector could be a date rapist. My (theoretical) British boyfriend could be a incel with violent tendencies. Unless you ask to see people’s criminal records and passport every time you’re out in public, it makes no sense. It just smacks of assuming people are criminals based on the colour of their skin or their heritage.

What exactly are we collecting?
Sands of a beach perhaps?
What would you do.
Maybe you are really listening to the politicians opinions and having drunk the Kool Aid.

Just a question exactly what Repulses you today??

It wouldn’t solve the boat issue anyway as men told they can’t apply for asylum in the U.K. would then try to enter illegally, again 🤷🏼‍♀️

That’s only assuming that you ban men from your safe routes, which is nonsensical given that in some countries, men are more at risk than women. Men can be victims of rape, trafficking and persecution. Men are victim of enforced military, especially in civil wars. The sheer hatred of men just for being men - especially foreign ones - is despicable.

I’m not ‘assuming’ that these countries (and therefore men) are patriarchal, I’m believing the women who live there that say it is.

And for men who are patriarchal and don’t understand British society and women’s rights and safety, they need educating and the consequences of sexual assault, rape and harassment made incredibly clear

We haven’t succeeded in ‘educating’ British men out of this, what makes you think we would succeed with men from a more misogynistic culture?

The British man on the train next to me could have murdered his girlfriend and got away with it on a “she liked rough sex!” technicality

Yes but he’s British and therefore is our problem, like Shamima Begum.

I wonder why he signed the contract ( of which I have seen and fully understand ) if it basically prevents true free speech on all public platforms.
This is not something I would ever think was acceptable.
And yet he did

oo I know for a nice big salary.

He broke the terms of his contract, what he said, why he said it, whether we agree or disagree is irrelevant.
If any of us broke the terms of our contract we d be out too.

Why should he feel he’s more important than the rest of us.

Im sure ITV have already given him a job by now anyway. Let’s hope he gets a lawyer to explain the contract this time.

MOTD will be presented with no presenters tomorrow, apparently.

Ahhhh ‘treat people with humanity’ the ‘Brexit means Brexit’ of this argument.

How am I suggesting we dont treat people with humanity?

And why does nobody ever answer my posts about my concern over unchecked men from very patriarchal countries turning up and what this means for women here?

Most people end up getting leave to remain because we are crap at processing them quickly enough. By the time we do most of them have had families. It is not because they are true asylum seekers..

Re concern over unchecked large numbers of men. We only have to look at what happened inGermany with assaults and the change in policy that they have adopted ie. Will only take families and women, no lone men.

Of those poor soles lost at sea, or trapped in containers and died we should remember that those who have been identified by their families were all economic migrants but were travelling to the uk to claim asylum. This was proved and admitted by their families.

For those who are not aware of the pressure on communities affected by large numbers of unchecked economic migrants join my world in Dover and see how long it takes to see a doctor, get a school place ( looked after children get first choice over ours ) , or get any chance of even a bed sit to live in. Maybe Mr Linekar could give some of the people of Dover a room in his 4mill mansion in Barnes,

aviatorsrus · 11/03/2023 03:06

@Tryandlivemylifeandthensee
Iam so sorry for your struggle. Truly iam sorry. I live up North of the country and I have not even been to see my doctor in over 2 years or more.
I really think that the issue is lack of government investing in local areas and trying to help us people out. With basics like food, gas and electric. Even basic child care. And transport.
The list is endless....
But you must understand that that those of us who of work and are able to are doing that by taxes.
Also may I also suggest that you maybe contact your local MP and your local citizens advice bureau.
He might be able to contact your local authorities and they do offer help that you didn't know existed

Where on earth do you get this stuff from??

People don’t just get leave to remain because their claims “take too long”. That’s not how it works. 😂 And “most people” don’t start families in while waiting for their asylum claim. Unless you have any proof to back this up?

I’ve also googled your claim about Germany only accepting women and children and can’t find any information on this - can you post a useful link?

Your claim that everyone crossing the channel who died was an economic migrant is also untrue - people from Afghanistan were on those boats. This is from the Wikipedia article in the 2021 channel deaths. “Sixteen of the victims were identified as Kurdish people from Iraqi Kurdistan, including ten men, four women and two children; four more were Afghan men.”

If you think people from Afghanistan are economic migrants, then you don’t know what economic migrants are. Lying to score cheap points is just beyond belief.

I do agree with you about the situation in Dover, but it’s government policy. Asylum seekers get no choice about where they’re housed. Why hasn’t the govt spread asylum seekers more evenly, or in areas with infrastructure that can support them?

(oh dear god is this my repulsion…)

Dh had a job where part of it was reading asylum claims and other legal documents on up coming cases

He said that for a lot of the asylum claims they were verbatim the same story.

My friend married her Dh who was an asylum seeker. Told her and anyone who would listen that he was driven out of his country because of his political beliefs.
He could never return.

Although as soon as he got his leave to remain he went back to this dangerous country for 4 weeks at Christmas and 4 weeks in the summer every single year

I mean PP has put it brutally and not how I would but does anyone here truly believe we have the infrastructure and public services to support an extra ~30,000 people per year on top of current projected growth?

Anyone?

refugees provide infrastructure

as I keep pointing out - students in a t least 3 local schools that I know of only have access to qualified maths and science teachers because of the number of refugees on the teaching staff.

People keep on and on about "our infrastructure can't handle refugees" without realising how many refugees become our infrastructure

For the sack of factual accuracy.
There are 1/4 of a million empty homes in the UK.
There are 3/4 of a million 2nd homes in the UK.

That means that there is not a housing crisis, there is a crisis in the distribution of housing. Do not let people like Rishi "9 homes" Sunak let you confuse the two.

Projected growth as a result of legal immigration and births?

I was looking at projected figures for the number of 18 year olds earlier this week. That number is expected to continue rising for a few more years, before starting to drop in about 2030. That will be the same reason that primary school rolls are falling now.

What projected population growth are you talking about?

Have a read about the various schemes for Ukranians to settle in the UK, and the recently introduced scheme that allows for 2.9million Hong Kongers to move to the UK.

Hong Kong is an ex British colony and Ukraine is at war.
So the uk set up specific schemes for them due to special circumstances.
I don’t know what other safe corridors there are other than applying for a visa in the normal way.
Maybe someone on here does
