To applaud Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright, and think Suella Braverman is looking like a fool for not even understanding the comment

Nimbostratus100 · 10/03/2023 19:44

Lineker called the immigration policy cruel, and compared the language and attitude of the government to 1930s Germany.

I hundred percent agree with him

Braverman started denying that anything that is happening in UK is comparable to the holocaust

She is spectacularly missing the point. The holocaust didn't happen in the 1930s

What happened in the 1930s was the slow and steady build up of racism and aggression and hate, that resulted in the holocaust in the 1940s

And the noises coming out of the government are very much like 1930s nazis

For those of you that don't have any interest in Match of the Day, Gary Lineker, the main presenter, has been suspended, in spite of being a sports commentator, and NOT a news reader or involved in current affairs programming, and NOT bound by the impartiality clause, and his two top fellow presenters have refused to appear without him

So either the BBC bosses (tory appointees) have scored a spectacular own goal,(unintended pun) in trying to supress Lineker's opinions, and turning them into world wide headlines,

OR!

Maybe they are secretly working against the government by choosing a course of action that will actually make the tories look like complete fools, while pretending to support them!

So you're only 'technically' in favour of corrective rape for our beliefs.

That's a relief.

Interestingly, I consider women in other countries to be human beings as well. Stunning concept I know. Wherever rapes happen, they are equally devastating.

And of course the man who attempted to rape me was British through and through.

so you believe rape is okay in certain circumstances.

Cool

may I ask if you're on any sex offender registers?

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/03/2023 00:28

I'm more worried about the disgusting, overt misogyny of @BigRed98 than I am about asylum seekers. You Irish or British @BigRed98?

I can see the BBC not showing MOTD anymore after the rights come up again. It's just not worth the hassle.

BBC presenter impartiality 👍

"seriously back @BorisJohnson to be the new PM . The public like him and he will have a good chance of winning the general election in 2021 if not before. Any one who can stop @jeremycorbyn from becoming PM has my backing ."

But that was 2019. They were allowed to make comments then. We know that because, around that time, Gary Lineker said that he could say what he liked because he wasn't in the news department. But in 2020 the rules changed. And now that tweet would fall foul of them.

Should the country simply abandon any attempt at border control and let anyone come to live here who wants to come even if they have left countries where their lives are not in danger? Because if not I’d love to hear a solution to the small boats issue which doesn’t involve so-called “Nazi” tactics / language.

The fun thing is that no-one who works in asylum law or charities that I’ve ever seen is advocating for open borders.

@SweetcornFritter The counter-reaction to what the government’s currently doing is not “open borders”. It’s systems like functioning resettlement schemes & safe routes from countries where people are facing war or persecution. People can be assessed/vetted overseas before arriving in the UK. Given one of the anti-asylum seeker arguments is “unvetted men”, this would solve that problem AND allow for more women and children to reach safety. Currently most women and children cannot physically manage the journey to Europe, with dangers of rape, kidnap and trafficking. (Which also happens to men and boys on that route.)

Rather than put money into this though, the government would prefer to spend millions on detaining asylum seekers in France (another fun fact: people can only be detained for 90 days, and cannot forcibly be removed from France under most conditions.) That means the govt would rather waste millions of our money on a deterrent that at best only delays arrivals, than put that money into our communities - our schools, NHS, infrastructure, reduced-cost childcare… the list goes on.

This is one of the most disgusting things I've ever read. It is never a womans fault if they're raped.

BlippiIsAnnoying · 11/03/2023 00:39

Anyone who annoys those cunts at the Mail is ok by me.

808Kate1 · 11/03/2023 00:39

Im just saying, if your a woman who supports uncontrolled immigration of military aged men and then one day you find yourself getting raped by a immigrant (BTW im not saying its only immigrants doing the raping) then its technically your fault because she wanted this.

@BigRed98 Oh of course, you're a bloke spending your Friday evening on a women's forum.

I say this politely, you're a disgusting piece of shit.

let me quote you

'if your a woman who supports uncontrolled immigration of military aged men and then one day you find yourself getting raped by a immigrant (BTW im not saying its only immigrants doing the raping) then its technically your fault because she wanted this.'

it's clear what you are. you're the type that women really need to be concerned about. fucking revolting.

Moonicorn · 11/03/2023 00:41

Um yes I’m absolutely not going to say it’s anyone’s ‘fault’ they were raped, it never is.

I think supporting the right of these men (because they’re overwhelmingly youngish men) from patriarchal countries to abandon the women and children and make their way here unchecked, is basically something only useful idiots can get on board with.

I hate that women and children have been abandoned in Afghanistan while the men have made a run for it, and what’s more the women here are also being shafted in being expected to be all cool and okay with it because they’re ‘refugees’.

In any other scenario mumsnet posters would be centring the rights of women and children, yet in this one area the rights of healthy young men are being prioritised over everyone else. Why??

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/03/2023 00:42

@Moonicorn women and children refugees come here too. Some have died on the journey.Sad Not all are men.

Florenz · 11/03/2023 00:43

How are these countries ever going to sort themselves out if everyone flees? What sort of country would Britain, or any country in Western Europe be if people had fled in tough times instead of working, fighting (and in many cases dying) to make the country a better place to live for their children and their children's children?

We are going about this all wrong. The more refugees we let in, the more refugees will want to come. We need to take a firm stance and say "no more".

MavisMcMinty · 11/03/2023 00:44

Why? Because these young, determined, brave, resilient people don’t come all this way to rape women, they come here to work, to contribute, to pay taxes, to be a net benefit to the UK.

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/03/2023 00:42

90% are young(ish) men.

I’m sorry there’s absolutely nothing brave about leaving their wives and kids behind to face a regime which apparently was so bad they felt forced to flee.

LakieLady · 11/03/2023 00:45

This is all egregious nonsense, as always. Firstly, we’re not “free to turn them back” for a couple of legal reasons. Non-refoulment being one, lack of agreement with EU countries being another.

If we were in the EU, we could have taken advantage of the "first safe country" provision in the Dublin agreement, but the people who voted for Brexit put paid to that.

I wonder what the Venn diagram of Brexit voters and those who think we should ship asylum seekers somewhere else would look like? I bet there's a significant overlap.

monsteramunch · 11/03/2023 00:45

but the stats show on average men do more rapes and murders than women

Goodness, thank you for explaining this to us silly women. Had no idea.

Imagine mansplaining rape statistics to women.

You're an embarrassment.

Everyone doesn’t flee. Most people stay near their homes and families. And the ones who do come are the brave, the resourceful, the strivers.

This is an excellent interview with Nobel-winning economist Esther Duflo, well worth 50 minutes of anyone’s time:
