Would you feel uncomfortable if your cleaner wore these?

My cleaner often wears quite revealing leggings, I wouldn't care except my husband often works from home and she also cleans his office which requires bending etc. She's also very attractive. It makes me feel uncomfortable and inferior but I don't feel like I can say anything to her. I personally don't feel this is professional for anyone to be wearing to work, except perhaps if you work in a gym or similar. What do others think? Would you be ok with it?

That's not true. I know plenty of workmen who manage to get through the day without mooning with properly fitting clothes and suitable clothes.

Itsmyturnnow1 · 10/03/2023 12:05

You can’t say anything but if you trust your husband then it shouldn’t be a thing! Accept she looks good and get over it! I used to be massively insecure until I realised my husband loves me, I am beautiful and I can accept others are attractive too and it’s fine if he thinks so because he loves me and finds me attractive!

lazycats · 10/03/2023 12:06

You're getting absolutely rinsed in this thead, OP...

... and it's thoroughly deserved.

GoodChat · 10/03/2023 12:18

@KimberleyClark that wasn't the question though

Indeed. They just need to 'dress for their figure' as women are told to, and understand that wearing a 34" waistband underneath a 44" stomach is bound to result in 'slippage'.

LlynTegid · 10/03/2023 12:22

I wouldn't feel uncomfortable. I just think they are awful and leggings should have a large tax on them to discourage use. Regardless of who is wearing them.

Same for men in grey tracksuit bottoms who think we will be impressed by the size of their manhood.

VereeViolet · 10/03/2023 12:33

YANBU. I’d probably feel the same way, OP. Your cleaner has every right to dress whatever way she wants and you have every right to find it uncomfortable. I wouldn’t talk to her about it though - probably just hire someone else.

I mean, if you’re wearing those leggings, you might as well be naked in my opinion. Naked women walking around in front of me: I don’t care. Naked women walking around in front of my husband: I don’t love it. And it’s not because I’m insecure about my body or because my husband is a pervert. It’s just a preference.

It’s along the same lines as I don’t want another woman to sit in DH’s lap or call him every night and chat about life. It’s just overly intimate. Seeing every detail of someone’s bum is a bit intimate. Unpopular opinion, yes, but it’s how I feel!

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2023 12:00

We had the plumber in a few days ago, and when he was bent over I was able to view his actual arse crack

I mean, I'm not sure that meets the agreed condition of work suitable, tbf. A strong belt cannot be under-valued among the trades.

Maybe not, but it’s a stereotype because it’s fairly ubiquitous.

the leggings are form fitting, but they’re not exposing skin.

Chamelion · 10/03/2023 12:58

But arse crack leggings are ridiculous by design and builder's crack is a clothing malfunction. Both fail to be work suitable.

The crucial difference is, suitability aside, I'm not seeing any men in an anxiety spin because their wife or girlfriend copped an eyeful of tradesman's arse. That particular accusation of conspicuous sexuality is only ever levied at women.

I can think both clothings are equally unprofessional and still recognize the inequity in how that lands across inequitable expectations.

I like grey tracksuits on a man. If an attractive plumber came in grey joggers I would be very happy but it's only looking and I wouldn't do it in front of my DH or insult him by telling him. I wouldn't want to run off with him or shag him. Nothing wrong with looking we are all human.

See it's a cleaner so they aren't in the house all day it's a few hours a week. If it was a nanny or aupair I wouldn't be happy as they are there all the time. My DH wouldn't be happy if I hired a buff manny.

You disliking them does not mean they are ‘ridiculous’ by design 🤷🏻‍♀️

They’re excellent leggings in regards to the fact they’re very comfortable, they support the glutes, they keep their shape, and they don’t become see through. All things that mean many people will want to wear them in and out of the gym.

GreatContinental · 10/03/2023 13:40

Snow day again?

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2023 13:40

Just because you like them doesn't mean wedgie leggings aren't ridiculous workwear.

PinkArt · 10/03/2023 13:52

This thread is a wild ride! Women are slutty and disrespectful for wearing something practical like leggings to do a very active job (which I would say was comparable to working in a gym in terms of how active it could be). Or are being compared to inanimate objects. And said inanimate object is in turn being victim blamed if it gets eaten!
OP she is at work. If you think she might be at risk of being sexually harassed at work by your husband, you need to take steps to protect her.

If you think she might sexually harass him, likewise take steps to protect him and terminate the contract.

If you think 'bending' is a problem, remove any cleaning jobs from the list that involve bending and have her cleaning waist height items and above.

If you think she's just a woman, who happens to have a nice ass, who has chosen to wear practical clothes which would not be your choice but that are hers then that is a you problem.

Forgooodnesssakenow · 10/03/2023 13:59

I feel inferior to cleaners anyway because I'm appallingly bad at housework! I'd be more worried my husband would leave her for her skills than her arse 😂

I don't have a particularly awesome arse either to be fair but it doesn't really impact our lives that much compared to my shit housekeeping

UWhatNow · 10/03/2023 14:00

Wow this thread really has turned over a stone to expose some deeply disturbing handmaid attitudes. One pair of leggings on a cleaner and suddenly your men have no morals, self-control or responsibility? Jeez these are Taliban levels of misogynistic thinking.

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2023 13:40

I’d say that’s dependent on the job, rather than your aesthetic preferences.

TheVanguardSix · 10/03/2023 07:10

Totally normal. I had a cleaner years ago, when the kids were tiny, who used to clean the office because my then husband wouldn’t shift his arse to give her 5 minutes alone to tidy the room. He refused to budge. She cleaned around him. Otherwise the room would never have gotten cleaned. He was an arse, my ex.

I had no idea that it is normal not to move out of the room that the cleaner needs to clean.

But I've never had a cleaner. 🙄

ginghamstarfish · 11/03/2023 19:22

While I think people should be able to wear what they like, that doesn't seem appropriate for a cleaner. Never mind my husband, I don't think I'd want someone's arse in my face in my own house.

Trixiefirecracker · 12/03/2023 12:05

I don’t think she is ‘sticking her arse in anybody’s face’. How bizarre that you have that idea. OP has either a potential husband problem or a self-esteem problem or a heady mixture of both. This is definitely not the cleaners problem. To suggest sacking her or ‘getting rid of her’ as some people have suggested is outrageous. Some of the comments on this thread beggar belief, all from women. We are our own worst enemies at times. Sad to see.

Nosejobent · 12/03/2023 14:12

W0tnow · 10/03/2023 08:22

I don’t think they’re appropriate or attractive either. I wouldn’t say anything though.

And in a rebuttal to the what about inappropriate clothing and men argument. I think we have been somewhat desensitised to this kind of female clothing to the point that women are pushed to reveal more and more. This would be different if the same standards were applied to men. But let’s not pretend that they are. Men’s bodies can be just as nice to look at. They’re just not as objectified. So they’re not getting around in hungry bum shorts or package hugging sportswear.

This is an excellent point.

Trixiefirecracker · 12/03/2023 14:15

Nosejobent · 12/03/2023 14:12

This is an excellent point.

Is it? But who decides what is inappropriate and who should wear what and when?
