To ask what stops you voting for the tories ?

For me
The unending shite that is brexit
Corruption and dishonesty, especially during the pandemic but not uniquely. And not just Johnson.
Making already deprived areas compete against each other for levelling up money whilst perfectly affluent tory voting areas are handed it on a plate (looking at Richmond N yorks Rishi ! ). Funny that 80% of constituencies getting levelling up funds are tory...
Whole culture war. Singling out certain minorities to attack for purely political gain. In the 80s single mums, 90s benefit claimants, 2000s refugees, immigrants. FWIW I'm fairly gender critical but disliked the way they toadied round Trump and his abhorrent opinions/followers who pretty much wrote the culture war playbook.
So what stops you from voting for them ?

Because in every political scenario you can think of they choose self interest over altruism.
After 12 years of wrecking, taking, lying, cheating and gaslighting the nation how anyone can vote for them is beyond comprehension.

This …havnt got time to list all the reasons why I would not vote those creatures. I want to relax before going to sleep!

IDontWantToBeAPie · 06/03/2023 21:38

Austerity which has pushed the nations services to the brink. The money they plumbed into their mates pockets. That they never seem to add anything to the country - just take away, cut, remove.

whiteroseredrose · 06/03/2023 21:39

My priority is the environment and animal welfare. I have voted Green and Lib Dem in the past. The Tories are too pro farmer and big business, that seems to take priority over our environmental future.

I did however vote Tory once, locally, because I wanted to keep our Grammar Schools.

Kitchenette · 06/03/2023 21:39

Brexit, the disgusting Rwanda policies, corruption, lack of care for the environment. I am a natural small c conservative (in that I see value in tradition and don’t assume that all change is change for the better) but have never voted Tory. There is nothing conservative about them, a load of crooks and chancers.

ArticSaviour · 06/03/2023 21:40

They are cunts

BigMandysBookClub · 06/03/2023 21:46

I might end up filling this thread if I was to list all of the reasons, but in a nutshell, they are just a bunch of privileged teenagers who have barely left their university debating society. They don't realise how immature and incompetent they look. And they really are convinced they are doing brilliantly. That is what is so dangerous about them. They are like a kid cooking a pizza in a toaster that thinks they are a genius. Totally blind to their own shiteness.

They also smirk too much too.

MolesEdgeworth · 06/03/2023 21:47

They are just an absolute fucking disaster.

I genuinely think you’d get a better government if you filled the Commons and Cabinet by lottery.

I don’t like Starmer but Labour will have my vote. They are imperfect but the Tories are irredeemable.

TennisWithDeborah · 06/03/2023 21:47

I think that many Tories of the past were fundamentally decent men and women whose policies I happened to disagree with on the whole.

My instinct about Johnson and his close associates is different. There were many Tory friends with their noses in the trough during the pandemic. The “return to work” instruction came about following pressure from donors with city centre interests, let’s be honest. PPE needs no elaboration. And as a PP said, someone is profiting from this Rwanda deal.

gamerchick · 06/03/2023 21:48

Im not independently wealthy.

DarkDarkNight · 06/03/2023 21:52

There is nothing on God’s green earth that would ever make me vote Tory.

They hold normal working and middle class people in utter contempt. They serve themselves, their friends and donors not the people. They are corrupt and mired in sleaze. They want an end to the NHS. They are ruining the future of our young people by not funding schools properly and getting rid of vital services like Sure start. The country is in dire straits: people are dying because they can’t afford medicines and food, poverty is everywhere. Brexit - I will never forgive or forget.

Catuscatish · 06/03/2023 21:53

Hmmm Brexit. What a massive shitshow.

The state of the NHS. Healthcare should be free at the point of delivery and of decent quality.

I abhor the americansiation of British culture and I think the Conservatives are the worst for this. No I don't want chlorinated chicken, a hugely divided society and employers who basically own me thank you very much.

In the same way I should be able to trust the Labour party to represent the most underprivileged in society but don't feel I can, I should be able to trust the Conservative Party with the economy but post Liz Truss? Hmmmmm

Jazzy21 · 06/03/2023 21:54

Jacob Rees Mogg

Theeyeballsinthesky · 06/03/2023 21:58

Their utter disdain & contempt for the the public

their inability to listen to anything that doesn’t fit with their world view,

their disregarding experts just because they don’t accord with the governments view

their content endless barefaced lying - even when evidence is produced of them lying they still deny it

that they appoint total arseholes like Lee Anderson to prominent positions

the fact that after forcing the most horrendously diverse referendum on us because they were to shit scared of ukip to sort out their own party, they then looked at a country torn apart and said “let’s double down and make the divisions worse” citizen of nowhere? Fuck you

Infosys, aka the family business of Rishi Sunak's wife, has "won" multimillion pound public sector contracts by sheer coincidence, I'm sure. I've also seen it written that they've been awarded the contract for Digital ID services for the UK government (a service they currently provide to UCAS).

BlippiIsAnnoying · 06/03/2023 22:01

Astonishes me that people vote for the cunts again and again.

TooBored1 · 06/03/2023 22:01

Morals.

PassTheDuckie · 06/03/2023 22:02

They are only out for themselves.

AnneWhittle · 06/03/2023 22:06

yes lets not forget who started that shit show

SoNoWrecksToday · 06/03/2023 22:06

Because despite being the only party with any actually vaguely credible or deliverable policies, all their policies are proven to be a) despicably awful and/or b) utterly meaningless. When faced with the opportunity for personal gain, every single one of them will lie through their teeth to profit.

If only we had an alternative option.

PathOfLeastResitance · 06/03/2023 22:07

They’re a bunch of self serving morons. Again, as others have said, not saying the others aren’t but the weight of evidence against the tories is far greater. Plus their unhidden contempt for most other humans. Rotten to the core and back again.

Lemondrizzle20 · 06/03/2023 22:10

They're collectively a bunch of over-privileged over-protected venal self-s
erving vain anachronistic arrogant tossers who have mismanaged the country so badly since 2010 that of countries on the European mainland only RUSSIA is now below us in expectations of growth for the year ahead.

Anyone voting for them is complicit in so many regressive and downright harmful behaviours and opinions there are many occasions I actually can't bring myself to be in the same room. I have ended friendships over this and at work I keep interactions with known Tories to a minimum.

And that's before we even start on Brexit.

As for anyone using the "at least they know what a woman is" excuse to justify voting for these miscreants, please try listening to a few of Johnson senior's diatribes. That'll tell you exactly what the Tories think a woman is good for. Anf then look up his behaviour towards his wife. You only have to look at their policies and the effects of their policies to see what their real natures are and the real level of their regard for women, families, the disabled, the poor, non-rich non-Caucasians...

Same goes for immigration and equality and diversity. Do not let the presence of a handful of non-Caucasians of the right class and income bracket in the cabinet fool you.

I could go on but I think that's enough reasons it'll be a cold day in Hell before I'd ever vote Tory to start.

BigMandysBookClub · 06/03/2023 22:17

I propose we print out this thread and send it to our local Tory MPs, not that they would fucking read it. Maybe send it to their neighbours first so they can't avoid it being in their lives somehow. 😂

100 % this. I felt like throwing something at the TV a minute ago. Boris has just nominated his father for a knighthood. Seriously, our children should aspire to be like this 'man', a 'man' who broke his wife's nose, slaps females MP on the bottom telling them "they've got a good seat." His sister then said he deserves to be recognised for what he's done in his work life!! So all the other things he's done is ok, we can over look that. He deserves to be in fucking prison not receiving a knighthood. I hate the tories. I absolutely hate them. I am raging at the news.

I will never vote for them, ever.

reddwarfgeek · 06/03/2023 22:21

They are lying greedy corrupt wankers.

I'm from a rough bit of the north west, and no one admits to voting Tory here. Granted it must happen, but it will never be for me.
