WWYD - influencer suddenly stopped posting

Dotty1111 · 06/03/2023 14:38

Not really an AIBU but concerned an influencer with 50k followers on insta, an ebook etc hasn't posted since January. Aware there could be lots of reasons but clearly this was a business for them and its just stopped abruptly.

I've sent a message that hasn't been responded to. They do have an email address which looks like a personal address listed but don't want to hound them. Regularly think about them and wonder if they are OK!!!

WWYD?

The thing with para-social relationships is
you feel like you know them, but they have 50,000 followers so it’s entirely one way. It’s sweet that you care, but home just leave it In sure you’ll find out at some point.

This is something the Kardashian’s speak about a lot.

People watch their show and follow them on SM so feel like they know them and are somehow close to them and feel they have the right to be intrusive.

CremeEggThief · 06/03/2023 16:02

Ah here, you can't be for real!

But thanks for making me chuckle on a bad day, bless you! 🤣

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 06/03/2023 16:06

I think what harm would a little message do?

The OP has already sent one and didn’t get a reply. Now that might be because this influencer has dropped dead and been eaten by her cat, but the far more likely explanation is that, for someone running this kind of account, private messages from people they don’t know are ten a penny. She probably hasn’t even read it.

threeplusmum · 06/03/2023 16:09

Bit sad OP, would this person do the same for you? There's your answer.

zingally · 06/03/2023 16:11

It's kind of you to be concerned, but this is what is referred to as a "parasocial relationship." You "know" them, but to them you are a complete stranger.

People chose to drop off from online life for many different reasons, and there's nothing you can do about it, and none of your concern.

About 2 years ago, a very popular YouTuber quit the platform. Watching her weekly videos had been part of my routine for the best part of a decade - I was really sad about it! But all you can do is to wish her well, and send your good thoughts to her through the universe.

PeaceLilyCactus · 06/03/2023 16:15

Could be a scammer who’s moved on. There’s thousands of them on Instagram.

SmallbutMighty1 · 06/03/2023 16:15

This is hilarious 😂

TradedAngelsForMyDemons · 06/03/2023 16:16

It’s quite odd that you think you should do anything at all. There could well be something wrong, but this persons real life family and friends are the ones that will be involved in that.

Slightly different, but there was a post, yesterday i think, asking where a certain poster on here was as they hadn’t seen them around. 😬 I find it really odd and quite stalker like.

Dotty1111 · 06/03/2023 14:46

No info on tattle, I don't think the influencer is big enough.

It's not that I am 'influenced' by her. Its a style page and is great for helping me mix my wardrobe up for work as easy to follow, simple pieces that are like what I own but styled well. No need to sneer.

Maybe she has personal issues? Maybe shes got a job in the real world? I cant believe you would even waste a minute thinking about it. You are obviously a nice person to worry (im not knocking that) but surely you have bigger things to worry about.

amonsteronthehill · 06/03/2023 16:17

Influencers are not your friends. Or even acquaintances. They're strangers on the internet who other people are (bafflingly, mysteriously) impressed by (for who knows what reason).

creekingmillenial · 06/03/2023 16:18

Could be all manner of reasons, although you might like a reason ultimately it’s their choice to communicate or not. I’d imagine something hard has happened in their personal life but again they don’t owe you the details.

Nimbostratus100 · 06/03/2023 14:46

Maybe they got a real job?

TheFormidableMrsC · 06/03/2023 16:20

I followed a business on insta during lockdown. I think she started it as a lockdown venture but she made some lovely sweats and tees and did lots of engaging reels and then one day she just stopped. She's not posted since and you can no longer order. Maybe she was furloughed and went back to work but I did wonder if she was OK. She did brighten my day!

CpnTomChandlersFanClub · 06/03/2023 16:20

This summarises the whole problem with social media.

You feel like this is someone you know but it isn't. It's a fake intimacy. The same way people feel like the know Breakfast TV presenters who appear every day. You don't know them or anything really about them -it's only what they choose to show you which could have elements of truth but may not at all.

You have no idea who is behind the Instagram. Even if it is notionally fronted by an individual, it could be a business team who have just moved on.

It's kind hearted to worry but I think as PP said, look at it the same way as if you saw a local clothes shop you like had closed down. You wouldn't be wanting to quiz the owners if they were ok would you?

MamOfFive · 06/03/2023 15:52

Real stalker vibes off this one.

Don't be ridiculous 🙄

Cwtchpuffling · 06/03/2023 16:25

Just snorted out my cuppa! This can’t be for real 🫣

murasaki · 06/03/2023 16:27

There was a thread like this a few months ago, leave these people in peace
They post when they want and are not your friends, despite what you might think, they have their own lives. It's nice that you care, but leave it.

Murdoch1949 · 06/03/2023 16:28

Blimey you've got time on your hands if you're concerned for a social media account holder's silence. Refuse to call them 'influencers'.

maddy68 · 06/03/2023 16:29

Nothing.

Mentalpiece · 06/03/2023 16:29

Nothing. It's an online stranger.

londonrach · 06/03/2023 16:30

Seriously leave this and don't contact....

yapperpapper · 06/03/2023 16:34

@Dotty1111 is it Susannah hemmings stylist?

pasta4metonight · 06/03/2023 16:34

I couldn't give a toss about people like this. Complete waste of brain space.

Sunsetintheeast · 06/03/2023 16:53

God some harsh answers on here! … but there is your reality check OP

Ludo19 · 06/03/2023 16:54

ShakespearesBlister · 06/03/2023 15:26

I have to say that out of all the calamitous dilemmas I have experienced personally and seen on MN, one of them has never been that my favourite influencer has stopped posting. Can people really not put a frock and cardi on these days without the help of a style guru?
